In this podcast, I share a little more about my personal journey and what led me to working with the Archangels. Episode aired March 2, 2017.

Hi friends, Welcome back to the Heavenly Hugs Podcast. Today I will tell you a little bit more about myself as we begin this journey together. Hi friends, Welcome back. This is Gladys Allen and today we're going to be talking about Let's Get Real. So after hearing my first podcasts, I really wanted to kind of give a recap a little bit about myself, Where I come from, Why I'm here doing this. And so when I first went for my, Let's call it angel reading, I was in a place in my life where I was struggling with my relationship. I was having trouble with my family. I didn't really love the job that I was in and I was just struggling. I was looking for something. And my mom had given me a gift certificate for an angel reading. And it took me about a year to use it. And when I went to see her, I was really open for anything. I wasn't really sure what to expect. I kind of just went in there with an open heart and open mind and was really praying that I would get something that could help me. It was such a phenomenal session and it was really a life changer for me. And I remember when I was leaving, She looked at me and said, You know, Gladys, She goes, You know, I believe we all have the ability to connect. And she said, I encourage you to look more into this if this is something that interests you. And we had talked about angels. We had talked about my grandmother that passed away. We had talked about the place that I was in my life. We talked about my family, My friends. And I felt like I was no longer alone. I felt like I was being heard out there. And that's really kind of what started this journey for me. So as a medium, As a spiritual advisor, As a teacher of spiritual and holistic practices, This isn't something that I have to say I grew up with. It wasn't something that I always knew that I had. And I felt like it was important to share this part before we went on in my podcast and talking about the angels. So when I left there, I remember getting in my car and looking at myself in my mirror and saying to myself, I want to do that. And I wanted to do it for me. I wanted to connect with my grandmother. I wanted to talk to angels. I wanted to hear their messages. And I wanted to do it for me. It really at that point had nothing to do with anybody else. And I remember going home and finding books and going behind closed doors and reading the Doreen Virtue Angel books and reading John Edwards books and reading about mediumship. And I just couldn't get enough of it. And so who is now my mentor, A good friend of mine, She taught classes about angels and mediumship and angel intuitive work. And I just became intrigued. And so the first class I ever took was a mediumship training. And it was kind of a big class right out the bat and really having no idea what this world was like. And at the end of the class, What I didn't know was that in order to get my certificate, I had to do five readings for other people. And I was in no way or shape ready to put myself out there. And so I emailed her, Nervous and anxious. And she said, Just send an email out to the closest people that you know and just come from the heart. So that's what I did. And I have to say to this day, I was amazed at the people who responded and the people who didn't. The people that I never expected in a million years to respond were the first ones. And the people who were my closest friends, The ones that I thought would be there immediately, I never heard back from. And it was kind of like an eye opener for me. And that was really kind of the beginning for me. And I realized how powerful this was. So throughout those couple years before opening my practice, I was taking classes. I was learning about myself. And I was growing. My life was changing. I was feeling like a flower that was kind of opening up. And at the time, I was working for a law firm. And although the company was great, The job just wasn't for me. I wasn't happy there. You know, There was a lot of pressure. And it just wasn't a field that resonated with who I was. So over time, I got sadder and sadder. I remember a month before they actually finally let me go, A friend of mine was sitting on her couch. And I remember crying saying, I can't do this anymore. I feel like my soul is dying. And that was kind of the shift of the turn for me. So I had worked on asking God and the angels to get me out of this job and find what my calling was, What my purpose was. And I still truly didn't know what I was going to do. So finally in September of 2007, They let me go. And I remember plopping down on the couch and saying, Thank God it's over. And then looking at my boyfriend at the time and saying, What am I going to do next? And he said to me, You know, You've been taking all these classes. If this is what you really want to do, Now is the time. If you're going to do it, Do it now. And I have to say within three weeks, I was renting a space with an acupuncturist in Cranston, Rhode Island. And she was charging me $250 a month for rent. And that was the beginning for me, You know. And it kind of opened up, You know, A whole new world for me. And I have to say, You know, At that time, You know, When I had started, I had just left this job that I didn't like. My relationship was in big trouble. My family was being torn apart. And I felt like the biggest fraud. Who was I to help people? And I just sat with God and sat with the angels and said, This has come so easily for me. This office, This space, What am I doing? You know, I had not yet taken any master trainings. I was a practitioner doing Reiki and integrated energy therapy. I was doing readings. And I knew I was helping people, But I didn't really know where it was going. And I struggled for a really long time with that. You know, So I talk about how I was a, You know, Caregiver in my last podcast. And you know, I want to clarify, You know, We're all caregivers in some way or another. We're all here to help people and serve. And then we also talked about the fix me, Save me, Change me, Make me better. And I also want to say we've all been those people as well. I was certainly looking for people to fix me, To save me, To change me, To make me better. And then I realized that nobody could do that for me, But me. So I've kind of morphed from that person into this caregiver energy and trying to find balance between my personal life and my professional life, Trying to find this caregiver energy that is my calling and how do I live a healthy, Happy life with it. So when I do these podcasts, It's coming from this place of struggling and having challenges. And really, I say that, You know, God and the angels and this energy is really what saved me. You know, I didn't really have anything else before this. I was struggling with my weight. I was struggling with my self-esteem. I was struggling in relationships. And at that time is when I pushed all of this out of my life. So now I've invited this back into my life and things are starting to change for me. And I have to say, With me, I try to be the most authentic. I try to be the most real and the most honest. So I realized that we all struggle. And if I can share my weaknesses, If I can share my strengths, You know, I pray that maybe you'll find a little bit of that in you and encourage you to kind of push through the fears, To push through the barriers, To really pursue a life that you want. You know, Not everybody is meant to leave their job and start a career and a profession that they love. You know, A lot of times, You know, What I did when I worked for that law firm is, You know, It funded me and allowed me to be able to take the classes that I needed so I could get where, You know, I was supposed to be going. So maybe many of you are in jobs or relationships, You know, Having experiences that you aren't truly in love with right now. But you have to kind of see them as lessons. You have to kind of see them as your teachers and they're almost kind of like a rocket that's propelling you forward. You know, Later on this month, We're going to talk about the Archangel Michael and settling boundaries and moving through fear. But I feel like before I talk about any of that stuff, You have to know that, You know, I've lived all this as well. I've had lots of challenges and struggles and you can read about that, You know, Stuff online on my website. You know, I attempted to take my life at 19 and, You know, So, You know, I've come from a really difficult, Challenging place where now people will say, You know, I'm one of the most positive people you ever meet. You know, I've moved through adversity. I've created a really beautiful life for myself with God and the angels. So this isn't just something that I put out there. This is my way of living. This is, You know, Proof, You know, That, You know, The magic and the miracles and the faith and the trust and the love, You know, That can all, You know, Change your life in miraculous ways. So, You know, I'm living proof. And I talk about this because we're moving into this 2017 energy. We're moving into this new place and this new energy. And we're being asked to really embrace the energy of love. And from what I know about love now is with love and true love, You have to be your authentic self. So through all these changes, Through all these shifts over these last nine years, I've realized that the walls have come down. The authentic parts of me are coming out. And it's liberating. There's a freedom of being able to be myself. You know, Those, You know, Me, I'm a little crazy. I do weird things. And yet I'm, You know, A rules follower. And you know, I like to make people happy. And you know, I'm kind of all over the place with that energy, But that's who I am, You know, And, You know, Part of my growth process has been putting those walls down and just letting people in, Being vulnerable and opening myself up. And with that, You know, I've had to move through fears. I've had to move through worries. I've had to move through, You know, Being ridiculed or, You know, Put down. And you know, For me, I feel like it's liberating. I feel like there's a freedom there. So you know, When I talk about, You know, The caregiver and I talk about, You know, Putting yourself first, I put it come from a place of necessity. I come from a place of trying to get you to understand that if you're not well, Then you can't possibly give to other people. And I've learned that, You know, The hard way. So you know, This part of let's get real, Let's get authentic, You know, It comes from a place of liberation and freedom. You know, I joke and I say that, You know, If anyone ever tells you that you've, You know, A spiritual awakening is easy, You know, They've never had a spiritual awakening, You know, And it can be hard, It can be a challenge, But yet it can also be freedom, It can be successful, It can be joyous, You know, There were many times when, You know, After I had, You know, Left an unhealthy relationship, You know, I remember looking up at God and saying, You know, Where is this true love? Where is this person in my life and in my darkest debating whether it was actually better to be with someone that you knew wasn't right for you or be lonely, You know, I debated whether to go back and, You know, You know, Leave this, This sadness that I was in but, You know, I called on the angels and I called on God and, You know, Even though, You know, Crying, You know, I also knew that God had a plan for me, I knew that I hadn't come this far to be alone, I hadn't come this far to fail. So I persevered and I pushed forward and I put myself out there and I expose my vulnerabilities and my weaknesses and in actuality, It made me stronger, You know, It made me more real, You know, And, You know, God blessed me with a beautiful relationship, God blessed me with, You know, A true match, Somebody who I say is everything I didn't know I needed, You know, And, You know, My family is stronger than ever, You know, I've got the best friendships out there and these are people who have just kind of came across my path and stuck, You know, We kind of looked at each other and say, Hey, You're cool and I'm saying, Hey, You're cool, Let's hang out, You know, And then next thing you know, You're going to know we have this really solid friendship. So I joke with people and say that I started my business so that I could make friends, I started my business so that I could find my tribe and find my people. Sometimes I feel like I come from the land of the misfits, You know, Because I don't fit into this box and I don't do everything like anybody, Everybody else, You know, And in this world, It's kind of morphed into everything I didn't know I needed, You know, The right people have always come along, The right opportunities, The right experiences in the most unexpected ways. So when you start this journey, And you open up to the angels energy, And you're in a place of insecurity or not really sure you're feeling vulnerable, You're feeling lonely, Know that you're not alone, Know that there are people out there who've gone through what you've gone through, You know, And yes, Positive thinking works, You know, It helps, You know, But it also is important for you to kind of get real with yourself to see your weaknesses, To see your challenges to, To be able to face those ugly parts of yourself, You know, And to work on them and to persevere forward, You know, I'm not gonna lie, It's not easy, But it's not a doom and gloom, Not easy. It's an E, It's not easy in a way that, You know, You have to expose yourself to the world. And, You know, With that becomes, Like I said, Freedom, Joy, Happiness, Love, Peace, I feel like I finally have my feet on the ground, You know, And this is an ever changing process, You know, Just when I think I've got it, Something happens and I realize I don't know anything at all. So again, It's a constant process, You know, And I have to say with God and the angels in my life, They've made it easier, They've lessened the impact and they speed it have speed up the recovery process. And I find now that I tend to learn from other people, You know, Through my clients, Through my students, Through experiences that I have through perfect strangers, You know, I kind of stepped out of that, You know, World against me and really now starting to look at the world. Is everybody working for me as my teachers as my lessons, You know, So as we go forward with these podcasts and as we go forward with whatever this morphs into, You know, I like to see the change in me, Maybe change in the podcast, Maybe even the changes in Ben when he starts asking his questions and he starts to change as well, You know, I believe the universe has all put us all together, You know, Anybody who is listening for a reason, You know, I always ask God to send me clients that I can bless that can bless me as well. And throughout this process, It'll be 10 years in October, Throughout this process, People, Places, Things and ideas have come along my path to challenge me, But to also help me grow and to almost help me appreciate the life that we're living here. So you know, I hope to be able to teach you through these podcasts in my words in my language and what I've channeled and what I know is to help you learn how to live through life. Maybe this is a new way of life for you. Maybe this is something that, You know, You're at the point where you're like, What do I have to lose? You know, Which, You know, I was in that first reading when I left that that appointment, You know, I remember looking at myself and saying, Up to God, You know, If this is real, Prove it. I've got nothing else to lose. And boy, Has my life changed by leaps and bounds. So as we're moving through this process, Know that we're all caregivers. We've all had this fix me, Save me, Change me energy, You know, So it's not a target for anybody. It's a growth process. So, You know, I just ask you to kind of discover yourself through this evolution of these podcasts and you know, Calling on the angels and asking them for their assistance in whatever way you feel guided. I don't think I have the answers. Hopefully you do. I'm just providing the questions. Maybe I can channel them through you. All right, Gladys, Let's get real. What drew you to getting your first reading? I actually, It was the gift certificate that I got from my mom. I'd never been to a fortune teller, A psychic or anything prior. I held it at a high regard. I really appreciated it, But I didn't want to be let down. And so really my mother getting me that gift certificate, I don't want to say forced me, But gave me the courage and guided me to go. Well that was my second question. Was there a reason why she thought that that would be a good thing for you or did she just think it was a fun gift? Well, I think she knew I was struggling. And prior I had been reading and collecting angel statues. I had been reading things here and there about angels. For me it was more like collecting things. I had this, I remember my room at the time had shelves everywhere and it was angel stuff everywhere. And I think when this reader came up to my mom through a friend at her work, I think my mom really thought I would enjoy that because it was coming from the angelic place. And it still took me about a year before I used it. So you said that you never, You didn't grow up with this, You never thought that you had the ability to be a medium or anything. Did you ever have any sense of it though? Like I know that you didn't grow up with it, But like you just said that you had been collecting angels and stuff. That's not necessarily a normal thing to do. So like, Do you think that there was some sort of connection that you always felt to it or that that grew out of something? Well you know, I believe I was being guided to it, But I was just missing it. So I was like a like psychic turnip. Like I just didn't get it. I was so in my head, Had so many like problems and things that I was dealing with that I just, It's kind of like tunnel vision. It's like, You know, When you're in that place of fear and you just can't see like a way out or if you've ever lost something like your keys and you're late and you got to get out the door and you can't find them and then you just take that second to like think and just be calm, Then boom, They're right in front of your face. I think it was kind of like that for me. I was in like this fear crisis zone, You know, And so it was being guided to me, But yet I wasn't getting it. And now I think about it and I'm like, Wow, You know, I was never really alone. Wow. You know, I was surrounding myself with this energy and just didn't even notice, You know, So this is that part of this conscious living that I talk about now and being open and aware to what's happening around you. Now I don't want to, We don't have to go into detail about this, But in the opening part of the podcast, You briefly mentioned when you were 19 there was an attempt to take your own life and you know, Everybody has their reasons for that and that's not really what I'm angling at here. My question is, Do you think that it is necessary for people to hit rock bottom to be able to get to a better place where you are now? Do you think that, Like, You know, As you said, Like you're so, When people, Like the first time you were described to me through our mutual friend, It was, Gladys is a ball of positive energy, You know? So do you think that that directly comes from what a negative space you were in? Like you need the rain, That heavy rain to really appreciate the sunshine as much as you do and be as helpful as you do, You know, Like a slingshot, Like the further you pull it back, The farther it'll go forward. Well I don't think in order for people to wake up, They have to attempt to take their lives. For me, You know, It's kind of like a threshold for pain. Like when is enough enough? Like how much do you have to hate a job or how much do you have to be unhappy in a relationship or how much do you have to be in financial debt before you make the change, Right? Everybody's threshold is different, You know, And even then, You know, I remember being in so much pain that I just wanted the pain to stop. I didn't really know who I could go to. I didn't really want to talk about it. And so my hope is by sharing my story, Being able to give people tools and an outlet to this energy that they don't have to get to that place, That as soon as they start feeling being uncomfortable, As soon as they start, You know, Knowing that they're unhappy, That they can start making the changes, That they can persevere, That they can adjust. So yes, Many people hit rock bottom, But every degree is different, You know. I've probably hit rock bottom many times in my life. So now going into this new 2017 energy, I want to recognize the pain right away. It's like being about 10 pounds or 15 pounds overweight when your clothes start to get uncomfortable. I want to recognize it then rather than just buying more clothes and getting bigger, You know, I want to kind of shift that, You know, Right away and also teach people that they can do when they start to get uncomfortable. Two more quick things. One, I guess three. So the pain that we feel, Do you think that sometimes that is, To use your phrase, Every time, Everything that I didn't know that I needed, Sometimes we're feeling most every time because the universe is working for us, Not against us, That when you're feeling that pain it is the things that are necessary to push you towards whatever it is you're supposed to be going towards. Absolutely. You know, My motto is the more you want, The more things need to shift and change. So it's learning how to be comfortable, Uncomfortable, Learning how to be okay with change. And you know, Once, You know, For things shifted for me once, You know, I was in a better job, But then I had relationships to deal with. Once I had to deal with my significant other at the time and that was taken care of, Then I had to deal with personal stuff. So I can't say it's ending, But it's also growing, You know, The more you shift and change, But it's learning to recognize that before it gets out of control. Awesome. Final two things. And I think that we could do an entire podcast on this later. Maybe we will. Finding a tribe. Oh. I thought that that was very big. I have made that a big focus point in my own life recently. Thinking about that. So could you speak a little bit more about that? You know, Trying to find the people that really work well with you. Well I think we all feel like an outcast at some point or another, You know, So it's not an isolated event. I think we all feel like we need to fit in. I think we all feel like we want to fit in. You know, I do this work, Which is very untraditional, But yeah, I dress, You know, Like everybody else, You know, So it's kind of like trying to find the people who vibe with your thought process. And I have to say that changes over time, You know, So the people that I was friends with 20 years ago who I felt like were my people who understood me as they started to shift and change myself, That started to change. So it's like your tribe kind of develops over time and the people come into your life for a reason, A season or a lifetime, You know, And I have friends who have kind of morphed with me throughout this process, You know, And then I have people who have been on my journey and off and on and off, You know, And I think it's important. We need support. We can no longer do this life thing alone anymore, You know, And I really believe God and the angels, The more you work on yourself, Will bring you the people who match or resonate or vibe with you in that moment. Awesome. And final thought, In October of this year, It'll be 10 years since you saw the medium? Since I started my business. Since you started your business. Okay. Do you think that now if that's 10 years in October, That means that last year was the ninth year that you started your business, Which means that the entire nine-year cycle that you've talked about in the last two podcasts and before and in this podcast was that entire time. Was the growth process. And now that you're venturing out and you're doing these new steps, Do you think that that is a coincidence that it coincides with the cycle? Absolutely not. Absolutely not. You know, It's for me, It was like driven by like survival. And in order for me to grow my practice, I had to grow myself. You know, I couldn't stay that old afraid person unhappy and really teach people how to live their best life life. So I feel like this work that I've been doing has been an evolution of my soul and people who have been with me throughout this journey has seen this and hopefully it inspires them to kind of take the journey. You know, I've never been quiet about my process and the good things and the bad things and the ugly things. So you know, I believe that this was a catalyst to keep me moving through this nine-year cycle. Well, Thank you very much. I hope that these questions were helpful to you and to listeners. Well done Made me think what is rock bottom It is individual and mostly recognised when looking back. Then also what is the opposite to rock bottom.
