Leçon 1
Begin Your Journey of Self-Compassion
Step into the practice of Tonglen — the art of giving and receiving compassion. In this session, we explore the origins of Tonglen Compassion Meditation and its transformative power, what compassion and self-compassion really mean, and how to connect with the depth of our hearts. We also start to explore breath and how its used in Tonglen to give and receive compassion. We’ll start our daily practice with a 15-minute Self-Tonglen meditation focused on cultivating self-compassion. By the end of this day, we’ll have a practical tool to meet ourselves with kindness, breathe deeply, and begin opening our hearts in a gentle, transformative way.

Sit with Life's Hard Moments
On Day 2, we’re invited to connect with our pain and suffering with curiosity and kindness. We’ll explore the difference between pain and suffering and discover how self-compassion can support us in moments that feel difficult or heavy. We’ll practice sitting with discomfort, allowing ourselves to notice, breathe, and open to what arises. Through gentle guidance, we’ll introduce the concept of transmuting pain into compassion, letting it touch our hearts and dissolve, creating space for ease and care. We’ll conclude with a 15-minute Tonglen meditation for self-compassion, sitting together to transform challenging moments into a source of inner strength and compassion.
Leçon 3
Expand Your Compassion Outward
On Day 3, we begin exploring compassion for another, the courageous act of connecting with the pain and suffering of others. We introduce the main Tonglen visualization, and also explore how to stay connected in this practice through the auditory and kinesthetic senses. As we offer compassion in Tonglen meditation, we discover the power of “self-forgetting”, letting our hearts exchange suffering for love without attachment to ego or identity. We explore the universal wish for liberation, learning to transmute pain without taking it on, bringing a sense of lightness and clarity. The session concludes with a 20-minute Tonglen meditation for others, cultivating empathy, connection, and expansive compassion.
Leçon 4
Meditation Attitudes: Small Shifts with Big Impacts
On Day 4, we focus on refining our meditation practice. We explore meditation posture tricks and learn to anchor attention at the heart using an inner smile and an open attitude. When our minds wander, we practice focusing with both determination and gentleness. And we clarify how to keep the breath calm, relaxed, and steady throughout Tonglen. This session also introduces a new aspect of Environmental Tonglen, directing our inner attitudes towards more spaciousness and compassion. Our practice includes guidance in Environmental Tonglen and Tonglen for Others.
Leçon 5
Self-Forgiveness through Tonglen
On Day 5, we learn about offering our practice, bringing an important moment of alignment and expansion to the beginning and end of our meditation session. We introduce Tonglen in a Living Situation, a self-forgiveness practice that can quickly unravel self-blame, guilt and past hurt, creating a way toward repair and reconnection in our life. We combine this with Self-Tonglen, cultivating compassion toward ourselves as we navigate real-life situations. Through these practices, we deepen our understanding of how to bring awareness, care, and transformation into both our hearts and our everyday lives.
Leçon 6
Live a Life of Compassion
On Day 6, we explore how to integrate this practice into our daily lives, bringing mindfulness, self-compassion, and care for others into every moment. We focus on practical ways to carry the heart of Tonglen into our routines, interactions, and challenges, so the practice moves beyond formal meditation and becomes a lived experience. We conclude with a 30-minute Tonglen meditation for Self and Others, sitting together to cultivate a continuous flow of compassion, presence, and connection that extends naturally into our everyday world.
Leçon 7
Make Your Practice Last
On Day 7, we pause to express gratitude — both for the journey and for ourselves — acknowledging the work we’ve done over the past week. We explore how to set a daily practice intention and routine, making Tonglen and Self-Compassion a natural part of our lives. We return to the aspects of the practice that call to us most — Tonglen towards Self, Others, Environmental or Living Situation — and reflect on how to continue cultivating an open, compassionate heart. The session concludes with a 30-minute Tonglen meditation for Self and Others, grounding our learning and inviting the practice to continue flowing after our course.
