Hey,

This is Ruthie and I'm here with Willa.

Hello.

And we just wanted to check in because we know that life looks a lot different right now.

If you're anything like us,

You're probably not going to school.

Maybe your mom and dad or whoever you're staying with,

They might still be going to work or maybe they're staying at home.

But I know our days look a lot different than normal and so we just wanted to see how you're feeling.

So one way to check in with how you're feeling is to figure out what color you are.

Are you yellow?

Are you blue?

Yellow is happy.

Blue is sad.

Purple can be scared and pink can be excited.

And red is angry and green will be disgusted.

And you also could be feeling white,

Which means you're not quite sure how you're feeling.

Or you could be feeling brown,

Which means that you're a lot of colors all mixed up together.

So just take a second and think about how you're feeling and try to pick one color or maybe a few colors that describe how you are.

This morning I was feeling white because I just wasn't quite sure.

I woke up and I didn't really know how I was feeling.

And then as the day went on,

I started feeling a bit more yellow.

We were playing and doing some home school and I was doing some sewing.

And then I got a little bit of sad news and so then I started to feel a little bit blue.

Willa,

How about you?

How are you feeling today?

Brown,

I'm feeling a quarter of yellow,

A quarter of sad,

And a quarter of angry,

And a quarter of scared.

And it's OK to feel all of those things or whatever you're feeling.

And if that changes 10 million times in a day,

That's OK too.

And if you're not quite sure and you're feeling white or just confused,

That's OK too.

When you're feeling red and angry,

What are some things you do that help you feel less angry?

Willa,

Do you have any things that help you?

Taking deep breaths.

Oh,

That's a good idea.

Let's take a deep breath now.

So you're going to breathe in really deep and then breathe out really slowly.

That felt really nice.

So let's do that one more time.

How are you feeling now?

I think I'm feeling a little bit more calm.

Do we have a color for calm,

Willa?

No,

But we can make one.

What color should calm be?

Hmm.

What do you guys think?

What color should calm be?

What about turquoise?

Yeah.

OK,

Let's say if you're feeling calmer,

Then maybe you feel a little bit more turquoise.

And Willa,

If you're feeling blue,

Is there anything that you do that helps you feel a little bit less blue or anything you do,

Maybe not to make you feel less blue,

But anything that you do when you're feeling blue?

Sometimes I go up to my bedroom and I lay on the pillow.

Do you do anything else when you're there?

Take deep breaths.

Deep breaths.

It always comes back to deep breaths.

Sometimes I like to get under the covers,

And sometimes it helps to have a favorite stuffy or a toy that you take with you.

For me,

Sometimes I go outside and go for a little walk.

I have my,

My friend gave me a blanket and it has a horse on it and it's my favorite blanket ever.

I can't sleep without it.

And does that help you when you're feeling blue?

Yeah.

And what about if you're feeling green?

Any tips on what to do when you're just feeling disgusted?

Uh,

I feel sick.

Does anything help you when you feel like that?

Uh,

Medicine.

I think when I feel like that,

Sometimes I just need to go get some energy out.

So I go for a run or I ride my bike.

What about you,

Willa?

Um,

I don't know.

That's okay.

And what about when we're feeling scared?

Uh,

I don't know.

Does anything help when you're feeling scared?

I don't know.

What about.

.

.

Oh,

Go hug and talking.

Yeah,

Tell me more about that.

Um,

You can go to a parent or anyone,

Maybe another child,

Teenager.

Good,

Teenager.

Um,

And you can hug them.

You can say,

I feel scared.

Yeah,

I really like getting hugs when I feel scared.

And sometimes if I don't have somebody right with me,

Then sometimes I call somebody and talk to them.

Or if there's someone around here,

Like my sister or my mom,

Sometimes I'll talk to them and tell them that I'm feeling scared.

And that usually helps a little bit too.

So I wonder about now.

How are you feeling now?

Has your color changed at all or do you still feel the same color as before?

What about you,

Willa?

How are you feeling?

I'm feeling happy and pink,

Which is excited.

Um,

And I'm feeling like the tiniest bit of,

Um,

Tiniest bit of red.

So still a little bit angry?

Yeah.

That's fair.

Um,

I'm still feeling a little bit sad and a little bit anxious,

But I'm also feeling pretty calm and a little bit happier for having had this time together.

So throughout the day,

If you think about it,

Try to check in and figure out what color you are.

Maybe you can make a color wheel and you can color on each day of the week what color you're feeling that day.

And maybe you can tell somebody else about what color you're feeling and check in with them and see what color they are feeling.

Um,

But wherever you are,

Hope that you are somewhere safe and that you have people that you can talk to.

And wherever you are,

Even if it feels like everybody else is far away,

Just know that you're not alone.

And think back in all the smiles you got today,

Including the one from me.

Will is sending you a really big smile right now.

Okay,

We'll talk to you again soon.

See you later.

Bye bye.
