Anne of Avonlea is the second novel in Lucy Maud Montgomery's beloved "Anne of Green Gables" series. Published in 1909, this book follows Anne Shirley, the imaginative, spirited, and red-haired orphan from the first novel, as she transitions from adolescence to young adulthood. The story begins two years after the events of Anne of Green Gables. Now sixteen, Anne has matured significantly but retains her unique blend of idealism, intelligence, and humor. No longer a schoolgirl, she is now a schoolteacher at the Avonlea school. While she feels a sense of responsibility toward her students, Anne’s characteristic romanticism often influences her teaching methods, which sometimes leads to humorous or unanticipated outcomes. She views her pupils as her charges, with each one having the potential to become a friend or ally in her ever-expanding world of imagination.
