One Simple Trick To Fall Back Asleep
Do you wake up in the middle of the night, like I do, and find it impossible to get back to sleep? This is a simple practice that genuinely helps me fall back asleep when my mind starts racing with unhelpful thoughts. The trick: gently counting backwards, without pressure or trying too hard, until sleep quietly returns. I'll explain why it works, how to start, and what to do when your mind wanders, because it will. A simple but effective practice to guide your busy mind back to sleep. Tried and tested.

Hello,
My name is Esther.
If you're watching this video,
Then probably like me,
You wake up in the middle of the night and find it difficult to get back to sleep.
In my case,
My mind starts to worry or plan,
And it's really,
Really difficult then to get back to that state of slumber where you just find it easy to nod off.
So what's really helped me is the moment that I notice that when I wake up that I start to worry is to start counting backwards.
And the trick is to start not with a low number,
But with a really high number,
Something a little bit more difficult like 790.
And then all you do is that you slowly count backwards from that number.
And what this does is that it gives the mind something to focus on.
And what you'll find is when you start to count backwards is that you will start to go back to those thoughts.
But the moment that you notice,
Go back to the counting and see if you can remember where you were,
Which you may not know exactly,
But it doesn't really matter.
Just,
You know,
Approximately and then keep on counting backwards.
Every time you know that you notice your mind goes back to the worrying or the planning,
Keep coming back to the counting.
And very often I don't get very far.
It's a great trick and it's definitely worth a try.
I hope it works for you too.
Take care.
