If you've lost a loved one,

Or you're wondering what lies beyond this life,

This story may offer hope and insight.

The Dragonfly Down below the surface of a quiet pond lived a colony of water bugs.

They noticed occasionally one of them seemed to lose interest in what was going on.

Then,

Clinging to the stem of a water lily,

The bug would gradually move out of sight and be seen no more.

They were all greatly puzzled as to where it went.

I have an idea,

Said the leader of the colony.

The next one of us who climbs up the lily stalk must promise to come back and tell us where he went and why.

They all solemnly promised.

One day the water bug,

Who had suggested the plan,

Found himself climbing up the lily stalk.

Before he knew what was happening,

He had broken through the surface of the water and fallen onto the broad green lily pad above.

He couldn't believe what he saw.

His body had changed into four silver wings and a long tail.

The warmth of the sun soon dried the moisture from his new body.

He had become a dragonfly.

Then he remembered the promise.

Without thinking he darted down.

Suddenly he hit the surface of the water.

I can't return,

He said in dismay.

Even if I could go back,

Not one of the water bugs would know me in my new body.

I guess I'll just have to wait until they all have become dragonflies too.

Then they'll understand what happened to me and where I went.

We only part to meet again.

I love this meditation. Yes, I like to think that when I see my deceased loved ones again, that they will have new bodies and they will be young, beautiful, happy, and healthy!

A wonderful way of saying once we’ve progressed through a cycle there is no way of going back, we can only move forward & sometimes leaving the those we know & love behind, metaphorically speaking. Thank you for sharing this! 💕🙏🏾😊

I just said goodbye to my Mum after she lived a long and beautiful 96 yrs. As I see butterflies softly landing on a flower or the hummingbird who comes directly to my face to hover a moment- as if in communication- I feel Mum all around me. Thank you for this. I love your sweet voice.

I love this! After my father passed I would read a similar version of this poem to my mother which would give her much needed hope. She is now, as the dragonfly, with my father and my sister as well.
