If It's Going To Be It's Up To Me

Is life unfair? Are you lost or in despair? Is nothing going your way? In this simple poem, Estelle offers some interesting solutions to handling the problem before she accepts that she is making excuses and that if she wants to be a winner, an achiever, or a success, she has to take responsibility for her life.

Transcript

If it's going to be,

It's up to me.

My life is chaotic.

I feel idiotic.

Nothing is going my way.

My future seems dead.

I am out of my head.

I think I have lost my way.

I'm in despair.

It's just not fair.

The things that some people say.

I deserve a chance.

My life to enhance.

To be a winner every day.

So what to do?

The choices are few.

I can sit and wait.

I can hesitate.

I can whinge and wail.

Fight tooth and nail.

I can scream and shout and jump about.

I can lay the blame.

Pretend I'm lame.

I can close my ears and deny my fears.

I can shut my eyes and tell you lies.

On and on.

Until I realise that they are all excuses.

Excuses.

Excuses.

They will get me nowhere.

It's my responsibility and I can see that if it's going to be,

It's up to me.

So I will be responsible.

I'll create a plan that's simple,

Not grand.

I'll think ahead and start each day by getting out of bed.

One step at a time.

Smooth rhythm and rhyme.

Feet on the ground.

Pavements I'll pound.

With a smile on my face for the whole human race.

I'll change my life for the better.

Because if it's going to be,

It's up to me.
