To prepare for our broad-mindedness meditation,
Please find a comfortable position,
Standing,
Sitting or lying down.
As you settle into your chosen position,
Close your eyes so you can turn your attention inward to begin watching the flow of your breath gently into and out of your body.
For the next few breaths,
Just notice where you feel your inhales expanding into your body and what areas of your body soften as you exhale.
Allow your inhales and exhales to even out in length so that your breath becomes steady and rhythmic.
Then begin directing your breath to a central point in your body.
Your best sense of center perhaps at your solar plexus right below your ribcage or another part of your body that feels like your center.
Connect with this point and then begin imagining your exhale starting from this point and expanding outward,
Filling up your belly,
Your chest.
Imagine your exhale starting from the very edges of your chest,
Belly or torso,
Wherever your breath reached at the fullness of your inhale.
Imagine it traveling or softening backward toward the center so that with every breath you feel an expansion of this area and then a softening.
Every inhale starting at the center point and traveling outward in every direction,
Extending like a balloon inflating with air.
Every exhale starts at the extremities and softens back toward your center point.
And with every breath,
Allow this expansion to travel a little further past your trunk,
Extending into your limbs,
Maybe even head.
Then your exhales travel from wherever your breath touched or reached back to center.
Until you feel that every breath starts at center and expands in all directions to the tips of your toes,
Fingers and even the top of your head.
And every exhale softens from these points back to your center point.
Every inhale expanding in all directions.
Every exhale softening back to center.
Even as you breathe and expand and soften rhythmically with the pace of your breath,
And imagining all the cells of your body.
And each inhale expands into all these cells.
And each exhale softens all these cells.
And then imagine the spaces between the cells and see or feel your breath expanding into all these spaces.
Then softening these spaces.
Every breath starting at the center point and expanding outward in all directions.
Every exhale starting at the very edges of you and softening back towards center.
The mind is not limited by the body.
So for your next few breaths,
Imagine that your inhale begins at your center point,
Travels outward in all directions but does not stop at your skin.
The broad mind expands,
Expands and extends in all directions beyond your physical form.
And the exhale starts outside of you wherever your inhale ended and gently softens back in to your center point.
Every inhale expanding your breath and your mind along with it out past the boundaries of your physical form into the space around you or even beyond.
Every exhale softens everything back to center.
Take a couple more breaths in this way until you feel fully expansive,
Your mind as broad and as open as the sky.
