Hi,

I'm Dr.

KJ Foster,

And today I'm sharing about breath.

And why this can feel uncomfortable for so many people.

For many people,

Rest does not actually feel relaxing.

It feels uncomfortable.

Sometimes even unsafe.

And there's a reason for that.

If your nervous system has spent years in survival mode,

Always thinking.

Always doing.

Always preparing.

Always taking care of everyone else.

Stillness.

Can feel unfamiliar.

When the body finally slows down.

Emotion.

And physical tension.

Often rise to the surface.

And many people mistakenly believe.

They are bad at resting.

But often,

The nervous system simply hasn't learned how to feel safe in stillness yet.

This is especially common for people who grew up around stress.

Unpredictability.

Criticism,

Or emotional pressure.

The body becomes conditioned to stay alert.

So when you finally try to rest,

The mind may become louder instead of quieter.

That does not mean you are failing.

It means your nervous system may need gentleness.

And practice.

Real rest.

Is not laziness.

Rest is a biological need.

And healing often requires learning how to slow down without feeling guilty for it.

Sometimes the first step is not forcing yourself to completely relax.

Sometimes it's simply creating small moments of pause.

One deep breath.

A short walk.

Sitting quietly for two minutes.

Listening to calming music.

Placing your hand over your heart.

Small moments of safety,

Teach the nervous system that rest is key.

Possible.

And over time.

The body slowly learns.

I do not have to stay in survival mode all the time.

And if rest feels uncomfortable for you,

That does not mean you are broken or doing something wrong.

It may simply mean your body has spent a long time trying to protect you.

Healing is not only learning how to keep going.

Sometimes.

Healing is learning that you are allowed to pause.

Allowed to breathe and allowed to experience moments of peace.

Without guilt.

And that learning.

Takes time.

So try to be gentle with yourself in the process.

Because even small moments of rest can become small moments.

Of healing.
