Part 2: Signs And Omens
The Nechung Oracle, also known as the State Oracle of Tibet, holds a central and revered position in Tibetan Buddhism. This oracle is considered the mouthpiece of Dorje Drakden, a powerful protector deity and an emanation of Pehar, the chief of the Five King Spirits.
This is no mere theatrical performance, but a tradition as ancient as Tibet itself. Since the 8th century, when mystics and magicians still roamed the land, the Nechung Oracle has guided the fate of a nation. It was the Fifth Dalai Lama, the Great Fifth, who recognized the oracle's power and wove it into the fabric of Tibetan governance. He built the Nechung Monastery, a jewel nestled near Lhasa, to house this living conduit to the divine.

On The Way
The rugged landscapes of Tibet opened up before them, with vast plains, rolling hills, and snow-capped mountains stretching as far as the eye could see.
Yonten led. Eyes sharp. Mind racing. Yadong in the far distance. A grueling 150-mile trek.
He preferred solitude. Open roads. No companions. But this journey was different. He perceived Reting Rinpoche's presence as a burden.

The group, now joined by two monks and a merchant family, continues their journey. Reting Rinpoche begins a spiritual fast in preparation for Lhamo La-tso. Lobsang receives a thoughtful gift from Dolma. The travelers encounter auspicious signs and are warmly welcomed in the village of Rinbung.

Part 3: The 14th Dalai Lama
In the mystical realm of Tibetan Buddhism, the recognition of a reborn Tulku is a process steeped in ancient tradition and spiritual significance. When a potential reincarnation is identified, usually a young child, a series of tests and rituals begin that would seem extraordinary to outside observers.
The most renowned of these tests is the recognition of personal objects. The child is presented with an array of items, some of which belonged to the previous incarnation. With no prior knowledge or coaching, the young candidate is expected to correctly identify objects that were once theirs in a past life. This could include prayer beads, ritual implements, or even everyday items like cups or spectacles.

The episode explores Lhamo Thondup's early childhood memories, which, while seemingly ordinary, are now seen as signs of his future destiny as the Dalai Lama. He recounts simple joys like collecting eggs and dreams of going to Lhasa, which later took on deeper significance.

This course is absolutely fantastic! It deserves many more stars than 5! It’s entertaining yet a very important historical and cultural story about Tibet, the Dalai Lama, Buddhism and more! In itself it also helps spread the knowledge about Buddhism to a wider group of people! Also in the time which we are now, as people of this earth on this planet we really need new ways of ”problem solving” that involves cultivating peace within, letting go of the past, being compassionate to self and others, understanding interconnected ness to name a few. As we all now the problems we face has to be solved by working together, uniting all “good forces” and here in this respect Buddhism might be very important. In any case this course gives much hope, that what we feel deep in our hearts and souls do matter and that it’s time to step up and not shy away from it! This course is indeed so much more than a wonderful story of real events, told and reimagined in a very engaging way. It also gives information on life and conditions of Tibet at this time that I had no knowledge of before. The thoughtful questions at the end of each chapter are a review of all there is to be learned and really make you think about the issues. Like all my favourite stories there really is a happy ending although it is not a conventual one but an important lesson for us today when confronted by difficulties and seemingly impossible challenges.
