Welcome to this I Am meditation from before the brush,
Creative Meditations.
I'm Patricia Baldwin Segerbrook.
By beginning each morning in meditation,
Which are as varied and diverse as my own practice in paint,
I've found that I get to then go forth into studio with a deeper trust in whatever comes,
Less judgment of what should come,
And a freer spirit with which to create from my unique center.
In short,
Time in meditation brings harmony to all of my being.
I'm more me as the artist I am,
Because I begin here.
The I Am meditation is not a new one.
I encourage you to repeat here,
Or simply listen and soak in the words.
Taking them on is your own.
Modify where resonance is off or absorb where it speaks to your heart.
From here,
Go to studio.
Put paint to canvas as the artist you are.
Thank you for being here,
Uniquely you.
This quote from Mary Oliver's poem,
Bone,
Begins our meditation.
Understand,
I am always trying to figure out what the soul is and where hidden and what shape.
I believe I will never quite know.
Though I play at the edges of knowing,
Truly I know our part is not knowing,
But looking and touching and loving,
Which is the way I walk on softly through the pale pink morning light.
And artists,
I am.
I am that.
Who do you say you are and can you say it with confidence and bold assurance?
Not based on what others think or say,
Nor what comparison feeds you when you browse through the archives of lives that have come before you.
But you,
Just you,
Who do you say you are in your practice of brush upon canvas?
Proclaim that.
Live that.
Breathe that.
There is only one you,
And the you you are needs to be a part of this world now.
There's no more waiting.
You are.
Live now.
I am.
I am creator.
I am created.
I am creating from spirit and soul.
I am.
I am art.
I am artist.
I am art spilling from my fingertips and hands.
I am.
I am color.
I am colored.
I am coloring with vibrancy and light.
I am.
I am form.
I am formed.
I am forming with strength and beauty.
I am.
I am shape.
I am shaped.
I am shaping with truth and vitality.
I am.
I am compose.
I am composed.
I am composing with tenacity and love.
I am.
I am.
I am.
I am.
Who you say you are,
Whether in response or to self,
Is what matters.
Who are you?
Who are you?
Who are you in this creation you are?
I am.
I am.
I am artist.
I am creation.
I am beginning.
Each and every day anew.
Artist,
Creation,
Beginning.
I am.
Amen and amen.
Now go and paint as only the you you are can.
