Welcome,
Welcome.
I'm so glad you're here.
In a world that constantly pulls at our attention,
You have chosen to pause,
To turn inward.
That simple choice is already an act of peace.
Today,
We'll work with one of the most ancient and profound mantras in the Sanskrit tradition,
Om Shanti.
Shanti means peace,
But not the kind of peace that's merely the absence of noise or conflict.
This is a deeper peace,
The peace that exists beneath the surface of all experience,
The peace that remains when everything else falls away.
In the Vedic tradition,
Shanti is often chanted three times,
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti.
Each repetition addresses a different source of disturbance,
The external world around us,
The people and circumstances in our lives,
And the internal world around thoughts and emotions.
Today,
We'll use this mantra as a doorway.
We are not trying to create space,
We are uncovering the peace that's already here,
Already within you,
Simply waiting to be remembered.
Let's begin by settling into your body.
Find a comfortable position,
Sitting or laying down,
Whatever allows you to be both alert and relaxed.
Let your eyes close gently.
Take a deep breath in through your nose and release it slowly through the mouth.
Let the exhale carry away any tensions you've been holding.
Another breath in.
As you exhale,
Let your shoulders drop,
Let your jaw soften.
Let your hands rest easily.
One more breath,
And this time,
Simply arrive.
You're here,
There's nowhere else you need to be.
Now let your breathing find its natural rhythm.
No need to control it,
Just notice the breath moving in and moving out,
Like waves on a shore.
In a moment,
I'll begin chanting Om Shanti.
I invite you to listen first,
Letting the sound wash over you.
When you feel ready,
Join me,
Either aloud or silently in your heart.
There's no right or wrong way to do this.
The mantra is a vibration,
And vibrations don't require perfection.
They simply require presence.
Let's begin now.
Remember to breathe.
Let the sound fade into silence,
But notice the peace remains.
This peace isn't something I gave you.
It was here all along.
The mantra simply helped you remember.
Carry this with you.
Whenever the world feels overwhelming,
You can return to these two simple words.
Om Shanti.
Peace is always available.
Peace is always within reach.
When you're ready,
Take a deep breath.
Gently move your fingers and toes,
And slowly open your eyes.
Thank you for practicing with me today.
Om Shanti.
