Perhaps you've forgotten what it feels like to move through a day without measuring it.
To drink your tea without also planning tomorrow.
To watch the evening sky without wondering what comes next,
To wonder,
To linger,
To make something with your hands just because.
If you've been feeling tired,
If slowing down brings guilt,
Or if a part of you believes you should always be doing just one more thing,
Then this meditation is an invitation to remember not how to do less,
But how to return to a more essential,
Kinder rhythm,
One your body remembers and relishes in.
So find a comfortable position.
Allow your eyes to gently close.
Take one slow,
Easy breath.
And together,
Let us return.
Take the deepest breath you have given yourself this entire day,
And as you exhale,
See what happens when you gently set down the benchmarks of productivity,
Just for now.
And in its place,
Try on the benchmark of presence.
Notice what begins to change without doing anything differently.
This breath becomes enough to be fully met.
The warmth of your body.
The quiet beneath the sounds.
The gentle rhythm of your breathing.
You are no longer asking this moment to prove itself worthy of your attention.
You're simply letting it be enough.
Perhaps this is the rhythm your body has been trying to remember.
One where rest is simply a part of being alive.
See if there is any urgency still running through your body.
Notice where you feel it.
And with your next inhale,
Let it know it is safe to rest now.
When an animal is injured,
It finds a quiet place.
It grows still,
Its breathing slows,
And everything hushes.
It rests,
Sometimes for days.
There's no debate,
No guilt,
No negotiation.
Its body knows what it needs,
And it surrenders to its body.
Perhaps your own body has been speaking in that same quiet language through fatigue,
Through the longing to pause,
Through the relief you sometimes feel when at last you allow yourself to stop.
Perhaps it has never been asking you to become someone new,
Only to inhabit this moment more deeply.
To allow yourself to have a little more fun for no sake other than enjoying this life.
Just for a moment,
Imagine there is absolutely nothing waiting for you after this meditation.
No emails,
No decisions,
No one needing anything from you.
Notice what happens in your body as you imagine that.
Perhaps your forehead becomes smooth again as though every thought has stepped outside for a little while.
The tiny muscles around your eyes soften.
They no longer need to keep watch.
Your jaw realizes it no longer has to hold on.
Your tongue rests gently in your mouth.
Your shoulders become just a little heavier as though you've finally set down something you've been carrying for a very long time.
Your hands no longer need to reach,
No longer need to grasp.
For this moment,
They are simply allowed to rest.
Your belly softens and takes up space again.
There is nothing here to brace against.
Nothing to protect yourself from.
Feel your whole body being held by whatever is beneath you.
You do not have to hold yourself up alone.
The earth has always been carrying you.
Imagine time itself beginning to slow,
Like bread dough quietly rising beneath a linen cloth.
See if your breath can borrow that same rhythm.
There is nowhere it needs to arrive.
Rest isn't something to rush through.
See if you can enjoy it.
Like slipping into freshly washed sheets after a long day.
Like the warmth of soup after coming in from the cold.
Like sitting in the afternoon sun,
Listening to wind chimes with nowhere else to be.
Let yourself linger here.
There is nothing to hurry back to right now.
As this meditation comes to a close,
See if you can carry this slower rhythm with you.
Perhaps you'll notice the evening sky,
The blue slowly surrendering to amber,
The amber softening into rose.
In somewhere between the rose and the first star,
You may remember Life was never waiting until everything was done.
It has always been quietly unfolding here,
All along.
And whenever you're ready.
Begin to deepen your breath.
Gently wiggle your fingers,
Your toes,
And when it feels right,
Allow your eyes to open.
Welcome back.
Thank you so much for practicing with me today.
I'm Dian Dian Liu.
Until next time.
