And so we begin.
Take a moment to bring your body to stillness,
Adjust in your seat until you are comfortable and rest your hands at your sides or in your lap.
Take a deep breath in and let it out as slowly as possible.
And again,
Deep inhale and slow,
Easy exhale.
Remember,
Friend,
Just the fact that you are here breathing is everything.
I know that sometimes the weight of emotion threatens to bring you to your knees.
I know that it blinds you from reality.
I know you are balancing between hope for change and fear of change.
In these moments when life draws in tight around us,
When the space around our thoughts is darkened by storms,
When the air seems too heavy to breathe,
Too dense to move,
All you want to do is curl into the shadows away from prying eyes.
I know you wish you could harden your heart.
I know you are tired.
I know you are close to breaking knuckles white as you hold together the pieces of your life.
Remember,
Friend,
Though you are tired,
You are not weak.
You have faced these storms before,
You know the shape of it.
And although the turmoil may seem eternal right now,
You have weathered the darkness before it emerged.
Like a lighthouse at the edge of the world,
You stand on the deep foundations of your practice,
Separate from the storm and calm within,
Present in the moment but unshaken.
Remember your strength and remember your practice.
Soften and breathe here.
You have proven that you can face difficulty and make it through to the other side.
Even in your fragility,
Even with your soft heart,
You have done it before.
It is hard to imagine right now,
But deep inside you know that you will find a place in the sun once more.
Change occurs,
But you remain standing in your resilience,
Vulnerable but safe,
Soft and beautiful.
Feel what you need to feel,
But do not believe that it will last forever.
Remember,
While the winds swirl and the waves crash around you,
You remain rooted in your practice.
Inside you are a beacon of strength and experience and peace.
Do not forget,
You are the wisest teacher you will ever have.
Breathe with me here,
Deep inhale filling your belly with air,
Hold for a moment,
Exhale and soften.
Now start to deepen your inhales even more,
Slightly lengthening the space in between breaths and slow down your exhale.
Bring your attention to your feet,
Are they warm or cold?
Notice where they are touching the ground.
What do your knees feel like today?
And your hips?
Bring your attention to your belly now,
Your shoulders and up to the tip of your nose.
Breathe again deeply here,
Feel the cool air slide from your nose,
Down your throat and into your chest.
I want you to take a moment as we pause together to identify whether you are feeling any physical or emotional pain in your body right now.
Locate it and hold it in your attention.
Does it have a shape,
The pain,
Or maybe a texture?
Often tension shows up in the body as a numb cloudy sensation or sometimes as a more sharp edged point.
Have you found the very center of the pain?
Did you notice that it is moving?
Did you notice it shrinking away from your attention?
Interesting.
Let's do a little breathing experiment.
Let me demonstrate first and then follow along with me.
When I inhale,
I visualize the air as a ball of light flowing from my nose down into my body and pooling around the area of pain.
It folds around the pain as I hold between breaths,
Growing brighter.
And as I exhale,
I see the light melt through my skin and out of my body.
I soften and I see the pain disintegrate.
Try this with me for three breaths.
Inhale the ball of light,
Watch it flow and pool around the pain.
Hold and see it brighten.
Exhale and see it float out and dissipate.
Soften your muscles.
Again,
Inhale an even bigger ball of white light.
Hold and feel the glow of it.
Exhale and expel it out and away.
Last one,
At your own pace.
Inhale,
Pooling.
Hold and brighten.
Exhale and it disappears.
Bring your breath back to normal now.
Feel the glow of relaxation and tranquility inside your entire body.
You are doing great and you are putting in the hard work,
Friend.
Now,
As we prepare to bring our practice to a close,
I would like you to repeat after me,
Quietly to yourself.
I am safe.
I remain calm in the face of adversity.
I do not internalize it.
I am separate from the storm and I remain rooted.
I trust myself to deal with each situation with awareness and with peace.
I trust myself because I am strong,
Sensitive and compassionate.
I am grateful for my own wisdom and experience.
I face whatever comes with kindness towards myself and others.
To close,
We bring our hands to heart center and bow our heads towards our fingertips.
Thank you for joining me for this practice.
I wish you the best of luck for the day ahead.
