Welcome to this self-acceptance practice.
This exercise is intended to be practiced in front of a mirror.
Alternatively,
Consider using your phone to see your reflection.
Take a moment to get settled.
Great.
Now,
I don't know about you,
But I've tried looking at my reflection and calling myself sexy,
And deep down in my core,
It's made me feel worse.
That's because my subconscious is calling BS.
This goes for any false story or vulnerability that has been hardwired into my brain.
Whether it be from childhood,
From something my ex-boyfriend said during a fight,
Or in the more recent past,
My memories influence my insecurities.
Know that most people feel insecure most of the time.
We are definitely not alone in these feelings.
And,
The great thing is that with practice,
We can rewire our brains and start wholeheartedly believing what we know to be the logical truth.
If you feel comfortable,
I invite you to close your eyes to start.
Let's begin by calming our nervous system.
To do this,
Start by placing your right hand on your left shoulder.
Then,
Without breaking contact from your skin,
Run your hand all the way down your arm to your left hand.
Good.
Now,
Place your left hand on your right shoulder,
And without breaking contact from your skin,
Run your hand all the way down your arm to your right hand.
Wonderful.
We'll now repeat this movement,
Alternating between each arm until you hear my voice.
Fantastic.
In a moment,
I will begin to share statements about self-acceptance.
And,
I invite you to pay attention to how these statements land for you,
And if that reaction shifts at any particular moment.
It's common for an internal voice to snap back in response,
And I often feel a stinging sensation in my chest,
In my throat,
Or in my stomach.
You might feel something somewhere else,
Or nothing at all,
And that's absolutely okay,
Too.
We will be doing two rounds.
First,
I recommend that you keep your eyes closed while repeating after me.
For the second round,
I suggest opening your eyes and looking into them in your reflection.
Let's begin.
I am open to the idea of being willing to learn how to accept myself exactly as I am.
I am willing to learn how to accept myself exactly as I am.
I am learning how to accept myself exactly as I am.
I accept myself exactly as I am.
I unconditionally accept myself exactly as I am at any moment,
In every way.
Now we'll move on to the second round.
Open your eyes and stare into them as you repeat after me.
Practicing this exercise to open and close your day can support your journey to where unconditional acceptance,
Love,
And compassion for yourself are your norm.
Thank you for being courageously compassionate with me today.
