Today's meditation will focus around releasing the roles and the identities that weigh you down.
Start by getting into a comfortable position.
You can sit or you can lie down.
Close your eyes and begin to follow your breath.
Inhale through the nostrils.
Inhale slower through the mouth.
Again slow inhale through the nostrils and even slower exhale through the mouth.
As you settle into that calming breathing pattern,
Begin to imagine the feeling of heaviness that comes from wearing multiple layers of clothes such as you might do in the winter season.
This might include a base layer,
A thermal,
A sweater,
A heavy coat,
Wool socks,
Mittens,
A beanie to cover your head,
A scarf,
Boots.
Exhale into all of those layers and the weight that they have on your body.
Now imagine each one of those layers represents a title,
An identity,
A role you have here on earth.
In your personal life that might be wife,
Husband,
Mother,
Father,
Daughter or son,
Homemaker.
Take a few moments to identify the roles you fill in your personal life.
Name each of them in your head and as you do,
Feel the weight of those roles as if they are layers of winter clothing.
Now,
Begin to identify and label the professional roles you might have.
Teacher,
Business owner,
Cashier,
Social worker.
It might include sub identifiers like manager,
Supervisor.
Name each of these roles in your head and begin to feel the weight of those as well.
Now,
Begin to name the feelings and emotions that come with that weight.
How does it make you feel?
How does the weight limit your ability to fully utilize your body and soul to their full potential?
As you feel into that weight,
Begin to remove the layers one by one.
Release the wife,
The mother,
The teacher.
Remove the layers of daughter,
Manager,
Homemaker.
With each release,
Honor the work that each represents,
But in an unattached way,
Allow them to be.
Once they are all removed,
Give yourself compassion for the years you carried that weight,
For the burden you were willing to bear to become somebody in this society.
Now feel the freedom,
The peace,
The liberation of being without title,
Without a role,
Without the need to become somebody,
And with only the desire to be who you are,
Who you always were.
You are love in its purest form.
You simply are,
And that is and will always be more than enough.
