Aloha,
I'm Rev.
Cindy Palos,
And I wanted to talk about life-changing opportunities.
There's been a lot of changes.
I love that David Bowie song,
Cha-cha-cha-cha changes.
There's been a lot of cha-cha-cha-cha changes going on in the world,
Very rapidly,
And certainly experienced that during COVID.
We certainly experienced that here on Maui after the fires,
And Los Angeles certainly is in the midst of all the changes that have happened with the tragic fires there,
And there's more fires happening in other places where people have gone through this same experience of having to go,
Wait a second,
Everything's changed now.
And you go through all kinds of stages with this,
Of course,
And in many ways you go through the stages of grief and the loss,
And it takes a while to really accept it on Maui here.
Well,
It's been a year and a half,
More than that,
Maybe even now,
And we're still seeing the after-effects of some of these changes that happen,
Because it's not just the tragic loss of homes and lives,
It affects everything else.
There's a ripple effect that happens with the economy,
With the lack of houses,
And with the lack of houses,
The price of rental,
Etc.
,
Going up and up and up.
So,
There's a lot of changes and the after-effect from these things,
Which,
I mean,
I know many people are now going to be going through.
So,
I have found it extremely valuable during the time of intense changes to be able to redefine your purpose and your life.
And I've seen this happening,
I've seen this happening actually before the fires in California,
With the prices going so high there,
Many changes that people decided they didn't have to work at their jobs and decided they might as well not live there and travel to someplace they enjoyed.
So,
This has kind of been going on now for a few years,
And I think we're going to see a lot more of it going on now with these,
More of these tragic losses and changes.
And there's an interesting process that happens when you start to reevaluate your life.
It's a beautiful word,
Evaluate,
Right?
What value do you put on evaluation of your life and your time and what you're going to do with it?
But then there's also the true fact that,
Like,
Well,
You have to be realistic about what you can do with that time and the way to do it.
And it takes a lot of really thinking outside the box,
It takes a lot of trusting,
It takes a lot of,
I guess,
Commitment to really doing what you know you can do and do well,
And being able to do it in another place,
In another way.
And I believe we're going to really see a lot of this going on now.
Now,
I've been here on Maui for 35 years,
And I'm seeing,
Of course,
The prices went sky high after the fires here,
To the point where now I also have worked in radio here for over 30 years,
And the stations are sold.
So I'm certainly reevaluating my life in what I'm going to be doing with it,
And where I'm going to go with it,
And what and how that takes a shape and form.
And it's what I find has been important for me that might be important for you if you're going through this as well,
Is to really be able to think in a very positive state of mind,
And at the same time reevaluate your true opportunities and gifts in the way you can live.
There's really endless possibilities,
Just endless possibilities in what you can do with your life.
Now,
A lot of the possibilities may not bring you money,
The money you need,
Because it's certainly gotten more expensive to live in some places,
Maui particularly.
I think Los Angeles and California has already kind of gone through that same stage as far as trying to find places to live,
And it's going to get more.
So this is the time people are going to be really looking at the options,
The options for your life.
They're a big thing,
They're a big,
Big deal.
So it's good to take some time and really be objective about what's going on.
You know,
You go through grief periods,
You go through times where you have to really be objective at the same time,
And see objectively that,
Well,
Maybe this is the time to make the changes I've always wanted to make.
This might be the time to really,
Well,
I've seen people,
I've seen a lot of people,
And I have to say it's very appealing,
I've seen a lot of people just get campers.
The after effect of that is the price of renting a camper has gone sky high.
My gosh,
I think it's doubled at least.
But a lot of people have just said,
I just want to get a big camper,
And I'm going to be traveling around.
And some of the people I know who have done this have really been enjoying just traveling from place to place.
Of course,
What's happening with this,
Not only is it renting a nice vehicle you can live in,
A motorhome,
Gotten more expensive,
But unfortunately a lot of the big parks and the beautiful places have gotten overcrowded as well.
So you've got to again think outside the box about places you can go that aren't maybe,
Maybe not the typical places.
You know,
It's funny,
I've seen this too because I know a lot of people have just decided after COVID to go traveling.
So all of a sudden you're seeing,
And you have seen for years now,
Almost all the cruises and everything going to these places fall.
So people who go on these trips,
Especially in the summertime,
Are just seeing thousands and thousands and thousands of people in the cities that they typically go to are going,
We don't want any more tourists,
Just stay out,
Get out,
Really.
But there's other ways to do it.
There are alternative ways to go to places that aren't so crowded.
There's places you can move to which are less expensive that you can live in,
Whether it's with a motorhome or whether it's just getting a place that's small and starting over,
You know.
There's really truly endless possibilities.
It does take having a nice plan and then being flexible enough to,
You know,
Try it out.
What would it take?
Maybe going to a place and seeing if you like that place and,
You know,
Before you get rid of everything,
Maybe check out what it's like to be there,
You know,
Maybe try it out for three months,
Six months or something.
I've seen this happen.
Why I'm saying that?
Because,
You know,
So often I've seen people come to Maui thinking this is a perfect dream place,
Why I should move here.
But after six months or maybe a year,
It's like a lot of the people just going,
I can't take it here,
It's not enough to do.
And so a lot of people do not make it after six months or a year.
I mean,
The idea,
The dream of being in paradise seems like,
Oh,
What could go wrong?
It's got to be great.
But believe me,
Wherever you go,
There's challenges and there's certainly challenges here on Maui as well.
There's going to be challenges anywhere you go.
There's going to be challenges in any place you go.
It's like you can't escape yourself.
Wherever you go,
There you are.
You know,
So it's always great to be able to be aware of this before you go somewhere thinking your life is going to be perfect.
If you go to paradise,
Wherever that might be,
You're going to take whatever you are and who you are and whatever issues you've got with you,
Wherever you go.
So it's always valuable to do the work you need to do,
To get your own head straight,
To get your life straight,
To get your mind straight before you make a major change.
Now,
You probably are,
A lot of people are going to need to do major changes.
And I think it's probably a very good thing.
It's just the way you go about doing it can make a huge,
Huge difference.
It's also very valuable to really take into account what you're really looking for,
What you really want out of your life.
Because sometimes we avoid that,
You know,
We're very busy in whatever we're doing in our lifestyles and we don't ever stop to think of what are you really looking for?
What are you seeking to find?
I really just read some interesting things about David Bowie before he passed away.
And talking about changes,
He brought down what was most important to him before he died.
And he really made a list of what he felt was the most valuable things.
And it was an interesting,
Very interesting list,
Including his friends and his family,
And the things that you sometimes take for granted.
Some of the amazingly powerful things that can make a difference in your life you need to take stock of,
You need to take account of.
Whatever is really most valuable to you,
You should be aware of.
And then figure out how you can honor that and what is the way and the route you take to do what you need to do in the way that is a life-changing way,
That is a good way,
That is a way of growth,
A way of more love,
And a way of more importance to what really matters to you.
So take the time,
You know,
It can be a wonderful thing.
I have a friend who travels a lot and the person takes about five months of extensive research and planning before he takes a trip.
I mean,
Everything you can imagine about the places and where to go and what to stay and what the reviews are like and all that,
It's pretty interesting how he plans each trip.
Now,
If you're going to make a life-changing way in your life,
You're going to move somewhere else,
You've got to take some planning and doing and thinking and some research about what that's going to be like.
And it can be an adventure,
It can be wonderful,
It can be wonderful,
But it all kind of starts with you.
And this is where it comes back to insight and meditation.
The more you are able to be still and know your inner self,
The more you can be comfortable with who you are and with your life and the people who you love,
The better place and the better way you are going to be able to recreate whatever way you decide to recreate your life.
And the more you are really happy with some of the basic principles of your life,
The more you can take that with you,
You know,
The more you can share that,
Even if you're moving to another whole place,
Maybe very far away.
It's an amazing gift that knowing what really is there inside you and what you're really looking for in life.
And there's that opportunity that is open right now for many people.
So I just really want to have you take the time to go inside to really be still and be aware,
Be very aware of this gift of who you are and how you're going to spend your time here on this planet.
It goes by really fast.
I can say that after 54 years of meditating,
Maybe it's 55,
That it really time flies.
And so you have that time and you go,
Okay,
I've done this.
I want to do something else.
What am I going to do that really resonates?
And I love again that word resonates.
What rings true to you that you can do?
And it's going to take maybe a little bit of you doing some soul searching to do that.
And you have all those gifts.
You can search your soul.
You can meditate.
You can really do some research and you can really look within and see what you're looking for in your life as you recreate yourself.
What a great gift.
What a great opportunity you are being given.
And I really pray that you find exactly what you're looking for in life and the perfect way to live it and to share it.
God bless you.
