Doing What You Love

Many people are rethinking their lives right now. There have been many who have decided to not do traditional jobs and are now choicing to work for themselves in their own way. I talk about things to consider when doing this.

A very big Aloha,

Cindy Pollos.

I've been thinking about what I could talk about that would make a difference.

There's been such life-changing stuff going on.

I have never ever really in my life seen so many major,

Major life-changing events.

And unfortunately,

A lot of them were very,

Very hard,

Very difficult to get through for a lot of people.

But they certainly got our attention,

Didn't they?

Gosh,

I keep wishing we didn't have to go through the hard stuff to stop and take a look around and see what's going on.

How was that song,

Stop,

Take a Look Around,

See What's Going Down?

I think many of us have had to stop and take a look around to see what's going down.

And what it's caused many people to do is to re-evaluate your life,

Re-evaluate what you're doing,

Re-evaluate why you're here,

Re-evaluate what's really most important to you.

And then look and see how you can take that wonderful gift of what's most important to you and make a living out of it.

And make it work for you and make it be of value not just to you but for people around you.

Now I think this is a major thing that we've seen a lot of people facing for a while now.

I think maybe it started at the beginning of COVID to the point where,

I mean,

Many people saw that there was a lack of workers out there in the I'd rather just stay home.

I'd rather just go ahead and work at home.

But it kind of continued.

Another interesting phenomenon that happened after COVID is that people decided they wanted to travel.

Now originally,

And I know a lot of travel professionals,

I have a travel show and everything,

And most of the travel professionals thought it would last a year or two,

Two years at most.

But you know what?

It's been many,

Many,

Many years,

More than two years,

And people are traveling more than ever because they decided to go for it.

Now it's an interesting different way and perspective that we're seeing going on in life.

As your values and as life changes and as you start to see what's most important to you,

People are changing the way they are doing things,

The way they're living.

And again,

Perhaps the way they are making a living.

Now the thing is,

It's not necessarily meaning that you don't have to still work at what you're doing.

In fact,

You might have to work harder.

But there are a few principles that I think can really help if you are at that point,

That some life-changing event happened,

Whether it be a fire or whether it be a death in the family or whether someone you know has decided that and make a major life change.

These things kind of make you stop and wonder and look at what's going around and see what's going down.

And then you have to really evaluate,

And I like the word re-evaluate.

Think of what that word means,

A value.

What is of value to you?

If you're going to evaluate your life right now,

If you really were going to stop and take a look around and and see what's of value to you,

You have to go through a few important things.

You know,

Is it your family?

Is it your friends?

Is it where you're living?

Is it the way you're living?

You know,

Maybe all of the above.

But all of those things,

All of those things then do need to be put into perspective where,

Okay,

If I wish to have this beautiful gift of all these things that are most important to me,

How do I land up making a living and paying for all that?

I've seen a lot of creative things.

As I watch this happening,

It's my gosh,

It's very amazing watching what people come up with.

Many people have done things such as,

Well,

What I'm doing now,

Doing talks.

I can't believe in all the people that are doing online posts now.

I've been doing radio all my life,

So for me it for many,

Many years,

I just take whatever I do in my talks and I post it online.

But now,

Everyone wants to do a blog.

It's like,

Okay,

I gotta apply on blog.

One thing I want to tell you,

If that's your idea,

Is you better think of how you're going to make money from it first.

There's a lot of competition out there.

I've done blogs,

I don't know,

For 25 years.

I've never made any money at it.

But it is a fun thing to do.

But are you going to get a living out of it?

So you have to be,

I'm trying to say in an optimistic and positive way,

You have to be realistic at what you do that can make you a living and a time where you want to make a life change.

Now,

I've seen some people be very successful at making some changes like this.

It's kind of interesting to watch,

You know.

Basically,

When you do make a decision of what you're really good at that you'd like to do to make your living,

You have to hone your skills.

And almost always,

It requires some form of reaching out through the internet or through people.

You're going to have to maybe hire someone to figure that out and do that part for you.

Because if you don't have those skills these days,

If you're trying to do it on your own,

You're going to need a way to reach people.

And your computer is still going to be the one that does it.

Now,

Is there other ways?

Absolutely,

But it still probably requires a computer to direct people to you.

I've seen people decide to do talks at churches,

Maybe talks at any kind of local place where they allow you to do speeches and talks.

Now,

Some people can be very successful at that.

I have a few friends that are traveling around the world just doing talks.

You know,

It's pretty amazing.

I have one friend who's actually,

He was very,

Very successful in what he was doing in investments and in lawyer work,

But he decided to change life.

And he's going around and talking at some of the nicest places that do travel in the world on the nicest ships.

It's pretty amazing.

I was like,

Wow,

You're just able to travel anywhere and they pay for you and you speak on a ship.

That's pretty cool.

I was impressed.

It's like,

Wow.

But talking again,

You have to have a skill to know what people want to hear and how to say it,

You know.

So there's really so many amazing possibilities on making livings in different ways.

The other thing that happens right now is because there's so many people who are deciding to do that,

That there's a lot of job openings in other places because most places have a hard time finding good people because there's a lack of people wanting to work for them.

It's like,

Maybe there's a reason here.

And I really think there's also the possibility that it may take more than one source.

So if you want to do a blog or you want to do a talk,

You know,

Or you want to do Insight Timer,

You might need that and something else as well,

You know.

And you're probably going to have to figure out a couple of sources of income,

Which is,

You know,

I live on Maui and that's been happening here for a long,

Long time because it's so expensive.

Most people have two jobs,

You know.

So there is that possibility as well that yes,

You can find a way to do something you love,

But that probably wouldn't be in that case for everyone.

It wouldn't be their only source of income.

So what's the other thing you need to do?

You need to be adaptable.

You need to be able to figure out maybe more than one way to make money.

It's pretty interesting,

Actually.

It's pretty interesting.

I was talking to my daughter.

She hasn't worked in a while.

She has two kids and she hasn't worked in a while.

She's very good with children.

I said,

Why don't you think about doing babysitting?

Why don't you think about home care?

There's a lot of people that want their and need their children to have someone who loves them,

Smart and make an income.

I mean,

There's just so many ways that you can do that.

Now that may be done with something else,

You know,

Like doing maybe your own blog or your own talks or whatever that might be.

I do sense that there's a huge trend going on now where people are rethinking the way they want to live their lives.

And I'm sure you've seen this.

I mean,

It used to be a small kind of ripple and it's become a tidal wave of what's going on in so many fascinating ways.

You know,

I've seen some people start nonprofits here on Maui and some of them are doing counseling for people who went through a major amount of stress after the fires.

And that kind of counseling work can sometimes pay very good money and it's very needed.

And so maybe being a counselor and having your own way of doing your blog or whatever you do could be a real source of income.

But you've got to think a little bit outside the box and you're going to need someone who's going to help you figure out how to go about marketing it and making it accessible online and spend some money on your website,

Etc,

Etc.

You know,

I mean,

All of those things are possible.

All of those things I've seen many people do.

And I would just encourage you to have some integrity while you're doing it.

Why?

Well,

Number one,

You know,

If you tuck someone into buying something that you're offering and it's not of value,

They're just not going to come back.

Not only that,

These days if you have someone give you a bad review or tell someone they know or spread it that way,

That could be the end of your venture right there.

You know,

It just happens that way.

And at the same time,

The same thing can happen if you are offering something of value that is really changing,

Life-changing,

That's really appreciated by people.

The positive can be spread in many ways and things could really be a blessing and you could really grow very quickly,

You know.

So there is all of that to take into account.

The other thing I've seen about people doing their own work is this like,

Okay,

If you're going to do this,

Are you a profit?

Are you a non-profit?

Are you going to be able,

If you're doing your own work,

Are you going to be able to handle all of your bookkeeping and figuring out what you're going to pay in taxes?

It's a lot to think about when you've worked on your own.

I've worked on my own for a long time,

But there's a lot of responsibility.

And believe me,

You do not want to get behind on paying taxes.

You're going to need it.

You're going to need to have that part covered.

And it's an interesting thing you learn as far as your basics.

I've seen some people actually offer courses at the college here.

We have a college on Maui.

And I know someone that is really offering some great classes that people are loving,

That are of value.

And they become very successful.

It's being a teacher.

This person happens to be a director and do some,

Has done theater,

Done theater here for a few years.

But the theater isn't enough to make a living out of.

And so,

And then he's done what,

Movie,

Two movies,

Two,

But a movie on Maui.

And if you're someone who's a director,

You'll find it's not easy to actually make a big living starting out as a director.

But you can do that.

And a second job,

Which for this individual I'm thinking of,

Is being a successful teacher here on the island and telling other people what to do.

And he's a good communicator.

So people really enjoy his classes.

Now,

These are just a few options.

And I think that what we're seeing here is really a shift,

A huge shift.

Everything is changing.

And the times are such that everyone's going to need to think a lot outside the box and to think creatively and to think inspirationally and to think smart at the same time,

To think smart,

To think of what can you do that you really love?

Is it going to be something that is your only source of income?

Or is it going to bring you a couple of sources of income?

I can't tell you how many people I know that told me they were going to write a book and they put so much work into it in time.

That's because I've interviewed quite a few of them on my radio show.

And it costs a lot to edit a book,

Just a little tip.

It costs a lot of money to take a good edit on a book.

And most people I know who have done it have not made money back.

It just is,

There's a lot of competition out there.

If you're doing it yourself,

It's hard.

But you can use that book,

If you want to write a book,

To be the basis of something you're teaching or to be part of a class or to do other things as well.

To do talks as well.

I have found that people who give talks really do a great job of selling their books after the talks.

They go around.

If you join a group like Unity or others,

You can go all around to many,

Many places and give the talks and have your book.

And the book adds validity to what you're doing and people will often buy the book after you've given a talk.

So these are just a few ways I've seen people expand their creative process,

Their inspirational process to make a living out of them,

To get out of what they may have been doing that they really did not like doing,

That really doesn't work for them.

And we happen to know that the cost of living and renting homes,

Especially here in Maui,

And it's going to be the same way in Los Angeles,

Prices were already high and they're going to go up even higher.

So the cost of living in those places might just mean it might be easier for you to travel on the road or do think about options of where to other places to live and how you can make an income in other places more easily.

This is what I feel is going on.

There's a shift.

There's a major shift happening right now and it's going to take some inspirational thinking and some serious direction and a serious way of thinking,

What can I do what I love doing and make it work for me.

If it's helping other people,

There's a huge need more than ever before for helping people right now.

And there are ways if you have a non-profit or you're an inspirational speaker to do that,

You know.

I mean there's a huge,

Huge need for people who are inspired right now.

So there is an amazing opportunity for you out there,

But you have to think smart,

You have to surround yourself and have a team.

If you have a team,

A team that you work well with,

Maybe someone who handles your internet,

Maybe someone who handles your promotion online,

It may be the part of you that doesn't handle or think about that part,

You know.

That part,

Maybe it's going to be someone who's an editor,

But you ought to think about the people you want to work with that you trust and that you can afford and how you're going to have the people in your team work with you.

A team,

A team is a beautiful thing.

It can be life-changing,

Right?

So,

So many things to think about,

But there are opportunities out there.

With every major change,

With every major,

I hate to say the word disaster,

But it's the best word,

With every disaster,

There's more need.

And if you wish to do things to help,

You can maybe find your way to make a living at it,

If you go about it in the right way,

With the right preparation,

With the right thinking,

With the right team,

With the right way.

And I really encourage you to take the time to to learn how to do it right and to really change your life in a way that you will find that you can really feel fulfilled,

That you're doing what you came here to do and you're helping people in the way you want to help people.

And you will find that this is such a huge,

Huge gift that you can achieve if you go about it very smart,

Very smart thinking,

Very wise thinking,

Very positive thinking is always a great tool in making that happen.

So,

And I pray you find your true purpose in life and a way to make it work for you where you can live a healthy,

Fulfilled,

And inspired life that is helping others.
