An Astrological Look At 2023
Astrologer Oralea Starr and I talk about what the New Year looks like from an astrological point of view. We look at the collective view and the individual implications from the changes coming. We go into how Pluto will be moving houses and what to expect with the Piscean influences.
Transcript
Going on for a few years now.
My friend,
Oralea Starr,
Is here in studio.
And I think I'll do this Facebook Live.
We've done this before,
Facebook Live.
I haven't seen you in a while,
Oralea.
Oralea's an amazing astrologer,
She really is.
And I have to say,
I was kind of raised with astrology.
My mother was an astrologer,
And I've known many people.
But truly,
Oralea,
To me,
Is one of the finest astrologers that I know,
And I always learn,
I guess,
A deeper perspective of what's going on when I talk to Oralea.
So,
Aloha,
Oralea,
How are you?
Let me turn on your mic,
Let me turn this off.
There you go.
Okay,
How are you?
It's good to see you.
It's good to see you,
Too.
It's been forever,
And I feel like a bad friend to you this last year.
We've both been too busy.
My life has just been so,
Yeah,
This last year was really challenging.
You did a lot of traveling,
Back and forth.
A lot of traveling,
A lot of,
Well,
Just a lot.
A lot.
But hey,
Since we're gonna be talking about astrology today,
I mean,
2023 is gonna be the year of big shifts.
I thought we already went through the big shifts.
No,
But big shifts in a different sort of way.
I mean,
I'm gonna be honest,
Because you called me the other day,
And I thought,
Gosh,
I haven't even really been focused on astrology in the same way that I typically am.
So I thought,
Well,
I better brush up and figure out what the heck is going on for 2023.
And I am really pleasantly surprised.
It doesn't mean that,
As you know,
That you and I have talked about many times,
There's what we call the collective astrology,
Which means kind of the things that are happening,
The planets and different signs,
And that's the same for everybody.
Like when the moon is,
And when we have the full moon in Cancer that's coming up in a couple of days,
Which should be really healing and really nurturing,
Because we've had some really hard energy.
You know,
We've had all those planets in Capricorn,
And Saturnian ruled,
And we had the solstice,
And we had a new moon.
We've got Mercury in retrograde,
And Mars in perpetual retrograde.
How long is this Mercury going on?
Because it's been a doozy.
It has been,
But it's not even a full week in yet.
Oh gosh.
I think it stations direct,
I want to say March,
I mean,
Not March,
January 16th.
Mars stations direct in its long retrograde in Gemini on January 23rd.
So right now there's just,
You know,
There's a lot of chaotic things being brought up for all of us.
It's not been that easy in the last two and a half years,
As most of us know.
I've noticed,
I've noticed.
Collectively have not been that easy.
You know,
Without going into great detail about it,
We have had the Saturn-Uranus square,
You know,
We had COVID,
We had all of these really difficult,
Difficult transits that everybody was under the influence of.
Including the war,
This last starting in Ukraine.
Right,
The war,
Everything.
You know,
So that's the collective part,
But then you take like your individual chart,
My individual chart,
What I have going on.
I'm in the midst of my final pass of my second Saturn return right now.
Oh fun.
You know,
Like I've got a lot of,
So it's a mixture of what you have going on personally in your natal chart and then what's going on collectively.
But at least collectively,
Some of the things that we have happening,
We have,
You know,
Mars is gonna end its retrograde in Gemini in January.
And that's finally gonna start moving forward.
And even though- Into cancer.
It's going into cancer.
And a lot of times you say,
Oh God,
Mars and cancer.
But I feel like it's gonna be sort of a healing balm.
Really?
Or a smoke bomb,
Because I always think of cancer as smoky.
Well,
Right,
Because you're an aquarium,
Right?
So it's like,
Oh,
Us aquariums are like- Hidden emotion,
All that smoky water and stuff.
I don't want to offend any cancers.
Anita is watching.
Hey,
Anita,
Danny Johnson's watching,
Julie Bridle's watching.
So if you're listening,
You can also go to cindypalos.
Com.
And I have to say,
It'll be interesting.
I hadn't realized that this Mercury,
People may not know,
Everyone knows Mercury and retrograde.
Right.
Except for a friend I know,
And she always thinks it's Venus and retrograde.
But Mercury and retrograde,
Of course,
Is communications.
It is.
So when you're thinking,
I hadn't realized it had been in Gemini,
But Gemini is a communication air sign?
Well,
No,
Mars is in Gemini.
So Mercury is in retrograde in Capricorn.
So,
You know,
Remember Capricorn is ruled by Saturn,
And you can think of Capricorn as the CEO,
The wise elder,
The manager,
The father.
Pretty good with numbers and business,
Usually.
It's about time,
Yeah.
But you know,
Capricorn is all about striving.
You know,
The goat wants to climb to the top of the mountain and achieve accolades and success and fame.
And it's all about,
You know,
Planning your work and working your plan.
And it's very pragmatic and it's an earth sign.
So again,
With Mercury and Capricorn,
Yeah,
Our minds may be thinking about business,
You know,
And it adds some more structure.
But with this retrograde,
A lot of that has just turned inward.
It's turned inward.
You know,
Think of Mercury as always,
I mean,
A retrograde,
Mercury retrograde is always,
Any kind of word that you can put the prefix re in front of.
Reassess,
Replan,
Revitalize,
Refresh.
Respond.
Yes,
Respond,
Rest.
Right.
Rejuvenate.
Rejuvenate,
Yes.
Reform.
Reform.
Oh my gosh,
All those REs.
Reform is,
Yeah,
So there's a ton of them,
Right?
And,
But with Mars and Gemini,
For what it's gonna be like,
Nearly six months by the time it goes into cancer.
And,
You know,
You think Mars is about our motivation,
Our willpower,
Our desire,
Our masculine energy,
Our sexual desire,
And in Gemini.
And the wars,
The word you mentioned,
Yes,
The Mars and Mars.
That Mars is,
You know,
Mars is the God of war,
It's fire,
It's coming at you.
Yeah.
And so in Gemini,
You know,
Gemini is the messenger.
And yes,
It's about communication,
But it's really about perception and knowledge.
And Gemini is very curious.
It wants to gather and disseminate all of this information.
And so we're tired.
We're exhausted.
And I think another word would be overwhelmed.
I know so many people said they were just overwhelmed.
Overwhelmed.
Right,
By everything.
And right,
And we're overwhelmed as sort of the culmination of the last two and a half years of Saturn,
Square Uranus,
And that,
You know,
When COVID started where I think we had,
Oh gosh,
I hope I get this right,
A Pluto,
Jupiter,
And Saturn conjunction.
I mean,
A lot of heavy duty stuff.
It's not been light and fluffy and airy.
And Saturn,
You know,
For the last five years,
So Saturn's been in Aquarius for the last two and a half years.
And before that,
It was in Capricorn.
And Saturn rules both Capricorn and Aquarius.
So it's been about hard work.
And I heard you speaking with Eric and saying,
Oh,
He's so hardworking.
And I'm super hardworking.
And I know you're super hardworking,
But I'm tired.
I know.
And you're not the only one.
And thank you,
We got Mark Carney now also watching.
No,
I think,
And again,
You know,
It's interesting because you were talking about the collective and then the individual.
And if you go to Jungian psychology,
There's the collective unconscious and then there's the individuation.
So there's a similarity there.
And at some point,
Though,
They also combine.
And this is where it gives me a little bit of hope because I'm seeing so many people like you and others who are really working to do good stuff that's gonna bring the whole collective and the people who are kind of down a little more up,
They've had to work twice as hard.
Twice as hard,
Twice as hard.
And so when Saturn shifts into Pisces,
I believe it's March.
And again,
I mean,
I can look it up,
But it's coming in the next couple of months.
So Saturn is gonna go into Pisces,
Which it hasn't been in since,
What,
The mid 90s.
And so when you think about Saturn energy,
Which is the stern taskmaster,
The we're gonna get things done,
We're gonna be structured,
It's about form.
Which is about as opposite as Aquarius,
As you can imagine.
Well,
But no,
Now it's gonna go into Neptune.
I know.
Right?
And that's emotional.
Which is Pisces,
Which is emotional and it's sort of chaos.
And it's sort of this undulating ocean of emotions and feelings and sensitivity.
But also there's that confusion and illusion and the need to want to escape.
And remember,
Pisces is symbolized by the two fishes.
Yes.
Right?
And one fish is kind of swimming towards the higher waters of the angelic realm and spirituality and meditation and dance and cinema and those sort of talking to the fairies and angels.
But then that other part is swimming towards the more sort of toxic waters of addiction.
You know,
Alcohol,
Food,
TV,
Sex,
Self undoing.
You know,
Neptune and Pisces,
You know,
Taken together they rule some really dark things like bribery and kidnapping and murder.
And I never,
Ever thought of Pisces that way.
It's so interesting.
I mean,
I've always thought of Pisces as emotional,
But I also thought of Pisces from a spiritual sense.
You know,
We were out in the Pisces spiritual realm,
Which was the old Christianity and Aquarius and the age of Aquarius coming out of Pisces was lifting that to a higher humanitarian sense.
But I never thought of Pisces the way you're describing it.
Think of Pisces,
You know,
As like the,
There's that dichotomy of the savior and the victim.
And it can be very martyr like.
So,
But they can switch roles.
So the thing is you have Saturn,
Which is our structure and our form.
And then you have it in Pisces ruled by Neptune,
Which is like this oceanic tidal wave sort of washing over that form.
And so there's two ways we can go though,
Right?
Remember there's the two fishes and there's a lot that's gonna be revealed.
So for some people,
This could be like,
You know,
The time that they hit bottom and say,
Oh my God,
You know,
I've gotta get sober.
This is gonna be a lot about sobriety,
Whatever that means for people,
You know,
And sobriety doesn't have to mean alcohol or drugs or whatever,
You know,
Our thinking,
Our relationships,
It's about,
You know,
Saturn is reality and sobriety.
And,
You know,
And Pisces can be chaos and you know,
It's mutable water.
So you think of,
When you think of the three water signs,
So you have cancer and cancer is cardinal water.
So think of that as like,
It's coming at you.
It's like a waterfall or the raging rapids in your face and then you move on to Scorpio,
Which is the next water sign,
Which is fixed water,
Which can be kind of like a stagnant lake or a stagnant pond.
I think of that saying still waters run deep,
You know,
And every Scorpio knows,
I mean,
There's a secretiveness and there's this stewing and this brewing that happens deep in the psyche.
And so you have that sort of those stagnant,
Obsessive,
Compulsive types of emotions that are seeking the light through just the truth of being.
I mean,
It's ruled by Pluto,
Just accepting yourself for authentically for all parts of yourself,
Including your shadow.
And then we come to that third water sign,
Pisces,
And that's mutable water.
So now we're thinking about clouds,
Mist,
Steam,
Things that are vanishing,
Things that are murky,
Things that aren't clear.
So,
You know,
But that can go into creativity and dreams and sort of that etheric realm.
So it should be interesting that the highest level of this Saturn and Pisces that I'm super looking forward to is you take the Saturn,
The ability to manifest,
And you take the dream aspect of Pisces,
The next couple and a half years,
We really have an opportunity to manifest our biggest dreams,
You know,
Things that we've been working on for 20 years.
Like my astrology cards,
You know how long I've been working on those.
They're currently,
You know,
Due to be published and in print and available on Amazon by February.
Congratulations,
I know you've been working on it for years.
Oh my God.
Yeah.
So,
And then there's other things like a nonprofit that I just started that the articles of incorporation were just approved today.
And there's big plans for that.
Congratulations,
That's not easy.
So it's like we do have this ability to really manifest those things,
But we're gonna have to not just incorporate our shadow,
But we're gonna have to push out the parts of ourselves that,
The self-sabotaging,
You know,
The addiction to complaining and to our stories that keep us tethered to the same,
You know,
Tired place that doesn't get us anywhere different.
That's been coming up for me a lot in meditation is that what is the story that we have bought into and how do we buy into that story we have of ourself and where did that come from?
And looking at that can shine a light in itself when you look and meditate and think about that and even bringing it up.
For sure.
Like you've got the story,
Is that really you or is that some story you created and why did you create that story about yourself,
Right?
Well,
And Saturn's gonna help bring us into sobriety about those Piscean kinds of things.
You know,
Where are we sort of that subconscious individual realm,
But again,
We're talking also about the collective and we're talking about Pisces and Neptune and the 12th house.
And that would mean what for the country and the world?
So,
You know,
I mean,
I'm sort of hoping,
And this is not my strong point in astrology,
I'm just gonna say it out,
You know,
When it comes to what's happening globally,
I'm sort of like,
Ah.
You know,
But actually I did read up on some different opinions of different astrologers and so what I'm hoping that it means is an end to a lot of these conspiracy theories,
To these,
You know,
I mean,
I think that there's the possibility of bringing some more gentleness and more reality in,
But in a gentle way where people can,
Because Pluto,
So Pluto is also changing signs.
Pluto only changes signs about every 20 years and it's going into Aquarius.
Oh my.
Woo-hoo,
I mean.
Well,
You know,
I don't,
We won't even go what Neil deGrasse Tyson say about no Pluto,
But you know,
Pluto's still there in astrology.
Oh,
Right,
Right.
I mean,
You know,
People wanted to demote Pluto,
You know,
There's that whole,
But Pluto in astrology is very powerful.
Yes,
Yeah.
It's very powerful.
Yeah,
So in Pluto and Aquarius,
What's that dance like?
So Pluto and Aquarius,
Again,
To me,
I mean,
Everybody debates when the age of Aquarius really began and said,
Oh,
You know,
Began thousands of years ago.
And I believe that with all of the technology and the AI and all of that,
But what Pluto and Aquarius can really bring us into that higher level of consciousness that Aquarius speaks to,
Right?
That sense of authenticity,
Being the seer,
It's very much an integrity.
There's a lot of knowledge there.
Definitely we should see huge advances in technology and AI,
But hopefully,
You know,
Because Aquarius is involved,
There's a more humanitarian aspect to it.
There should be more respect for the groups and equality in groups.
Like a lot of the things that got started when Trump was in office with the Black Lives Matter,
It's kind of like things got tipped off there.
And I notice when I'm watching Netflix or I'm anywhere,
It's all so multicultural now.
And as a person with five planets in Aquarius and a Sagittarius rising,
I am all about that.
Yeah.
So I feel like Pluto and Aquarius really just ushers in in grand style on the,
You know,
The velvet red carpet,
The age of Aquarius is here.
Like in its.
.
.
But I thought Pluto also was death.
Wasn't Pluto the house of death?
Pluto can symbolize death,
But it's more of like,
And yes,
It can be literal death,
But it's more like death and rebirth,
Right?
So when you think about Pluto and Capricorn this last 20 years,
And look what's happened with our corporations and all of the greed and all of the patriarchy squirming for control,
You know,
So Pluto will go into Aquarius,
But it'll be there for about three months and then it'll retrograde back into Capricorn for a handful of months.
And then it's solidly in Aquarius for the next,
I don't know,
18 or 20 years.
Wow.
So we're going to see a lot of that change from,
You know,
From the corporations running everything,
I think between Saturn and Pisces and Pluto and Aquarius,
We're going to see more regulation in the Silicon Valley.
You know,
You talk about the cryptocurrencies and like even social media and Twitter and all these,
And I'm not saying that they're bad.
And I'm not saying that regulation is bad or good,
But I think we're going to see more regulation of those so that there's more of an equal playing field.
And I feel like,
You know,
We are going into a new era.
So Pluto going into Aquarius,
Yes,
Pluto is death.
Maybe it's going to be death to the old order of these,
The corporations running the show and the billionaires.
And again,
Not that there's anything wrong with corporations or billionaires or anything else,
But Aquarius is humanitarian.
It's all about a utopian society that includes everyone,
Where everyone has an equal opportunity and where there is an equal playing field.
So I think we're going to see that continue to kind of up the ante.
I'm also hoping from a technology standpoint,
Especially having adult sons with muscular dystrophy,
You know,
That there are going to be some advances in technology,
Like AI,
Like robotics for people who can't move their limbs or people with spinal cord injuries,
You know,
That we're going to have.
We're going to have things where those people,
Again,
It is going to sort of equal their playing field a little bit.
You take somebody who can't walk or who can't move their arms and you put a piece of robotic bionic equipment on their arm and all of a sudden they can move their arm.
And there's been some groundwork,
Very important groundwork done in that already.
So it's starting to happen already.
So I think that over the next handful of years,
We're going to see a lot more of that.
Well,
All of that sounds pretty good.
I remember,
Gosh,
We've done this so often over the beginning of the year and you didn't want to say anything bad.
It's very hard.
It's like anyone that does tarot card reading or fortune telling or any of that stuff,
An astrologer,
Of course,
Too.
If you see things in people's signs,
If they're doing a reading,
You have to be careful the power you're giving to the words you put out.
For sure.
Because what you see is only maybe an outline or a possibility.
Then the reality is your soul and whatever forces there are behind it can also play a very important role in that too.
But at the same time,
It's kind of good to know.
And I'm sure that's what people most often,
When they ask for an astrology reading,
Want to know.
They want to know.
They want to know most often about relationships,
Right?
Right.
Is that the most often?
Okay,
So we are going to have a Venus retrograde in 2023.
And I'm not sure exactly when that takes place.
Venus goes retrograde about every 18 months.
And during a Venus retrograde,
We can have old flames come back into the picture,
Either in our mind or in the flesh.
We might start thinking it's a great idea to get back together with these people.
It's usually not.
Venus retrograde can cause us to make some pretty big,
Hefty purchases that in a more sober light we might not make.
Oh,
I've been doing that.
Yeah.
Or we may get ourselves into a situation where we may get ourselves,
Like,
You know,
You find that the next great place you want to live,
Or a car you want to buy,
Or some sort of big purchase.
Things like jewelry,
You know,
Think Venus,
Trinkets,
You know.
People are going to be more attracted to those kind of things.
And think,
You know,
Not think much about spending money on them.
But when the Venus retrograde is over,
They might think,
You know,
It's typically not a great time to get cosmetic surgery,
Or to make a change with your hairstyle.
But those are the things that people will be thinking about.
So it's a little bit of an illusion.
And it can cause some difficulty in relationships,
Just due to unrealistic expectations.
Or just like a Mercury retrograde,
Where our mind is kind of discombobulated.
Like,
Think of a Mercury retrograde where it takes twice the amount of energy for us to process things.
Yeah.
And so.
.
.
And then when something breaks down technologically,
Or things that do break during Mercury,
It's like so frustrating.
It's so frustrating.
And it takes a while to get it back on track.
Yeah.
Because the communications are a little bit skewed,
And people may not be listening.
They may not get it.
They may,
You know,
That email might wind up in the ether somewhere.
Oh,
Yeah.
Oh,
Yeah.
So yeah,
It can take a little while to straighten out.
But Venus retrograde is that same way.
And it usually lasts about six weeks.
And I,
You know,
Before I was really privy to the Venus retrograde,
I've experienced all of the things that they say can go wrong during a Venus retrograde,
When I wasn't aware of it.
It was like I blindly it's like a little kid following the,
You know,
The.
.
.
What was that movie from ages ago,
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,
Where those kids followed that guy with the candy into that truck,
And then he put them all in a,
I don't know,
Underground or whatever?
I was thinking of the breadcrumbs and Rudolph.
I was thinking of the little red wolf and the breadcrumbs into the forest.
Same.
It's the same kind of thing,
Right?
Where we can get lured into some really dangerous places.
That's good to be aware of.
That's good to be aware of.
So think twice.
Think twice.
And just,
You know,
If you can just.
.
.
It doesn't mean,
You know,
Like,
Let's say you meet somebody during a Venus retrograde and you're like,
Oh,
My God,
I've just met the,
You know,
The man or the woman of my dreams,
And everything seems pretty.
This is a knight in shining armor.
It still could be.
It doesn't mean that it's not.
It's just,
It's not the time to go all in.
You want to kind of wait for that cloud to settle a little bit,
Because things will probably be a little different once that energy passes.
Well,
That's great advice.
That's great advice.
So it's not to say,
You know,
Don't do it.
Just.
.
.
Think twice.
Think twice.
The other big thing that's happening this year is that the nodes that has been in Taurus Earth,
You know,
And we've had Uranus and Taurus.
So we've had this Earth and we've had Saturn squaring Uranus.
I mean,
It's just been,
It's just been like one punch in the gut after the next.
Frankly,
It really has.
But now that's going to switch into Aries for two and a half years,
Bringing in.
.
.
But look,
You're going to have Pluto and Aquarius and the nodes in Aries.
That's fire and air.
That's great.
I like fire and air.
Yeah.
A lot of fire and air.
Now Saturn's going to be in Pisces.
So that's.
.
.
We can feel really disillusioned under Saturn,
Pisces or Saturn,
Neptune.
Like if I look at somebody's individual chart and I see that they have a Saturn,
Neptune connection,
If it's a positive one,
I say,
Great.
This is high manifestation times.
Whatever you do to manifest things,
Do it to the hilt.
And if you're into working with crystals like I am,
Like I know you are,
And you've got singing bowls or a wand or whatever,
Do it up.
But if it's a square or an opposition or another,
Then the energies get a little more difficult to handle and we can feel kind of destabilized.
Like Saturn,
Pisces,
Initially we might kind of feel like someone pushed us out into the middle of a sea in a boat and left us there and a mist has descended and we're going,
What the hell?
Sounds like a bad dream to me.
But again,
That's where we get to wake up from that bad dream.
That's that part of Saturn and Pisces that I talked about in the beginning where some people will hit their bottom.
And that's a great thing,
Really.
Even though it may not feel like it.
It doesn't feel like it at the time,
But that's like somebody who's going to die of alcoholism if they don't stop drinking.
They finally hit their bottom and they become sober and their whole life changes.
It's going to be like that.
But then when we have that North Node going into Aries,
The warrior,
It's also about new beginnings.
It's about,
It's kind of like the gas tank of life is full.
I like that.
First,
You know,
And it's time to just put the pedal to the metal and just go.
You don't necessarily need to know where you're going.
It can be a little impulsive.
So I don't know,
You know,
I noticed when the moon is in Aries,
I see a lot of people driving aggressively and acting aggressively.
And even on this,
You know,
Island of Aloha,
People flipping each other off on the road and screaming out the window at each other.
So,
You know,
When that North Node goes in Aries,
We could see some more of that.
And I don't want to think of,
You said,
You know,
Yeah,
I don't like to present anything bad,
But the North Node in Aries,
The god of war,
I don't know.
Let's hope we don't have World War III.
I always hope that we don't have World War III.
Hey,
We only have two minutes left.
And I always love talking to you.
I miss you.
I used to have a show here.
Where do people reach out to you?
How do they find out about you?
What's the best way?
So the best way,
My website as Mercury Retrograde is being revamped,
But I can be found eventually on AureliaStarAstrology.
Com,
O-R-A-L-E-A,
Star with two R's,
Astrology.
Com.
You could email me at MauiAurelia,
O-R-A-L-E-A at gmail.
Com.
Do you do your Facebook still?
I do.
That's right.
I have a Facebook page.
I always like watching your Facebook.
Yeah.
Are you doing it?
I haven't been on there in a while,
But it's all being redone because my astrology cards are getting ready to come out.
Right,
Right,
Right.
So when that happens,
Maybe I'll come back on.
Yeah.
Yeah,
You can find me on Facebook under Language of the Soul Astrology.
If you type that in,
I will show up.
Well,
I have to say,
I always learn a lot from you.
I like your interpretation.
That's why Language of the Soul.
I think I've known you for what,
About six,
Seven years,
Eight years?
I think it's been longer.
Is it longer than that?
It's definitely been longer than that.
And it's so interesting because we've been trying to get together,
But it's been busy times for both of us.
So it was just really a treat to be able to check in with you at the beginning of this 2023.
It'll be interesting always since I record these shows to see what was in the past,
But there has been a lot of things I found that really did ring true.
And it was valuable information.
And I think the information that you give is valuable really for everyone,
Even if you don't believe in astrology or whatever.
This is all good advice to live by anyway,
Whether you believe in astrology or not.
You always should think twice.
You always should be aware.
You should always remember if you hit bottom,
That's a good place because you can come back up.
All these things are really valuable.
Right.
There's only one way to go,
And that's up or out.
So these are all really,
I think,
Wonderful things to look into.
And you gave me an interesting couple of things to think about,
Which I was not aware at all of what was going to be happening with Mercury moving into Cancer.
I wasn't aware about the Pisces ending.
Oh,
Yeah,
Mars is going to be going into Cancer.
Mars,
Okay.
Yeah.
And so now I also am aware of what's going to be happening with the Pisces going into it.
Just think of it,
Put it in your mind as major culmination,
Major manifestation of your dreams.
On that note,
We'll say aloha.
Aloha.
