Transcript
This is a loving kindness meditation created specifically in this time of fear,
Uncertainty,
And walking around in the darkness.
I invite you to find a comfortable space,
Whether you're sitting down or lying down.
Just be very intentional of making yourself comfortable.
Trying to find a position that creates a sense of ease in your being.
Allowing yourself to feel the support of the chair or the couch or the bed or the floor if you're lying down or sitting in either position.
Just allow yourself a moment to feel the support of whatever structure is holding you.
I invite you to close your eyes or cast them down as a way of drawing yourself into the home of your being.
We can be intentional about being aware of the presence of a loving God within us,
Moving around us,
But being present to us.
Invite you to draw your attention into your breath.
Realizing the slight rise and fall of your chest as life giving air naturally moves in and out of your body.
When we draw our attention to the breath,
It's a way of reminding ourselves that a loving God through the breath of the Holy Spirit,
The advocate is right here with us in every breath.
As we breathe,
We are being with a loving God and his advocate,
The Holy Spirit,
Who moves and breathes in and through us around us and among us.
So giving ourselves a moment just to be still.
Notice the support of the structure holding us,
Anchoring our attention and our breath,
Reminding us of the presence of a loving God within us and his advocate,
The Holy Spirit,
That moves in and through us with every breath.
Now I invite you to draw an image of yourself into your mind's eye,
Any age or stage of your life,
Preferably an image that is clear,
And draw that image up into your mind's eye,
Holding this image of yourself.
Now we're going to offer a round of loving kindness,
Phrases of loving kindness.
You may think of them as prayers or blessings.
We're going to first offer a round of loving kindness,
Prayers,
Blessings to ourselves,
Intentionally holding this image of ourselves in our mind's eye.
And as we begin this work,
We may want to put a hand over our chest,
Maybe a hand on our belly.
Maybe we want to keep our hands in our lap,
But notice what would feel supportive to you in receiving blessing.
For me,
It's putting my hand on my chest,
But everyone's different.
You might like your hand on your belly or hands in your lap or hanging at your side.
Notice what feels most supportive,
Life giving to you in this moment.
Let us pray.
I will say the prayers aloud and then in the silence,
You may offer the prayer to yourself either aloud or quietly within your own being.
Again,
Whatever feels right and good to you.
May I be safe and protected.
Really breathe that blessing,
Receive it,
Allow it to come into your being.
May I have peace and joy.
May I be healthy and strong.
May I have ease and love my life.
Let's offer another round of loving kindness,
Prayers and blessings to ourselves.
We'll change the wording a little bit this time.
May I be safe and protected from all inner and outer harm.
May I be safe and protected from all inner and outer harm.
May I know God's peace that surpasses all understanding.
May I know God's peace that surpasses all understanding.
May I know the joy that God wants for me.
May I feel it in my bones.
May I know the joy God wants for me.
May I feel it in my bones.
May I be healthy and strong.
May I be healthy and strong.
May I experience God's angels tending to me in mind,
Body,
Soul and spirit.
May I experience God's angels tending to me in mind,
Body,
Soul and spirit.
May I have ease and love the life God has given me.
May I have ease and love the life God has given me.
Taking a deep cleansing breath in through your nose and releasing it through your mouth.
In through your nose and out through your mouth.
Allowing that image of yourself to fall away with your breath.
And now inviting an image of someone you love.
Someone you care about deeply.
Someone that's easy to be around.
Not if it's not all the time easy to be around,
But for the most of the time easy to be around.
Draw a clear image of them into your mind's eye.
And if no one's coming into your mind,
That is perfectly good too.
Just in the stillness.
Let's offer these blessings.
If you do have an image,
Keeping in mind the image that's come up for you,
This person.
May you be safe and protected.
May you know peace and joy.
May you be healthy and strong.
May you have ease and love your life.
Again same person another round slightly different words.
May you be safe and protected from all inner and outer harm.
May you know God's peace that surpasses all understanding.
May you know the joy God has for you.
May you feel it in your bones.
May you feel the joy God has for you.
May you feel it in your bones.
May you be healthy and strong.
May you experience God's angels tending to you in mind,
Body,
Soul and spirit.
May you have ease and love the life God has given you.
Take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Good.
Allowing that image of the person if you had a person come to mind drift away on your out breath.
Now let's bring someone to mind that you're concerned about.
This may be a new concern given the circumstances of the world right now.
It could be an old concern.
It could be a new concern that doesn't have anything to do with what's going on in the world.
But someone who you're concerned about,
Someone you're trying to hold in the light,
Someone who you've maybe been carrying around in your heart.
Drawing an image of them clearly into your mind's eye.
Let's offer them these blessings.
May you be safe and protected from all inner and outer harm.
May you know God's peace that surpasses all understanding.
May you know the joy God has for you.
May you feel it in your bones.
May you be healthy and strong.
May you experience God's angels tending to you in mind,
Body,
Soul and spirit.
May you have ease and love the life God has given you.
A cleansing breath in through the nose and out through the mouth,
Allowing that image to drift away on the out breath.
Now let's draw to mind someone who you're wrestling with.
As my spiritual director says,
Someone who you might feel like sandpaper with.
They kind of rub against you and it's not the most comfortable feeling.
A person where there's irritation or discomfort.
Let's offer these prayers,
Blessings,
Offerings of well-being and loving kindness to this person.
Clear image of them in your mind's eye.
Clear of your breath.
May you be safe and protected from all inner and outer harm.
May you know the peace of God which surpasses all understanding.
May you know God's joy.
May you feel it in your bones.
May you be healthy and strong.
May you experience the angels tending to you in mind,
Body,
Soul and spirit.
May you have ease and love the life God has given you.
And on an in breath,
Breathing in,
Breathing out,
Letting that image dissipate as you exhale.
And now with no particular image in mind,
Let's hold in loving kindness,
Offering prayers and blessings to everyone in your family.
It may be biological family,
It may be friends that are family,
Whoever you consider to be your people.
May you hold them in your awareness and may we offer them loving kindness.
So to all the people in your tribe,
All the people who you belong to and who they belong to you,
May all of those people,
May they feel safe and protected.
May they know peace that surpasses all understanding.
May they know God's joy in their being.
May they feel it in their bones.
May they be healthy and strong.
May they have ease.
May they love the life God has given them.
May they experience God's angels in mind,
Body,
Soul and spirit.
May they have ease and love the life God has given them.
And on an in breath,
Take a deep breath in,
Breathing out as long as you can through your mouth or nose,
Just feeling whatever is best for you.
But a real release.
Let's do another of those breathing in and breathing out.
There we are.
Now in this next meditation round,
We will offer loving kindness,
Prayers and blessings to all those in our town or community,
Our city.
So expanding our offering of loving kindness to all those who we know and don't know.
To all those town,
Country,
City,
May they be safe and protected from all inner and outer harm.
May they know God's peace that surpasses all understanding.
May they know God's joy.
May they feel it in their bones.
May they know God's joy.
May they feel it in their bones.
May everyone in your town,
City,
Community,
May they be healthy and strong.
May they experience God's angels in mind,
Body,
Soul and spirit.
May they experience God's angels tending to them in mind,
Body,
Soul and spirit.
May they have ease and love the life that's been given to them.
May they have ease and love the life God's given them.
In our last round of loving kindness meditation,
May we expand these blessings to everyone in the entire world.
May they be received with open hearts.
We don't have control over whether anyone will receive it.
What we do have control over is offering out of a genuine place of God's love within us and allowing God's love to flow outward into the world,
Offering blessings of intention for loving kindness for all people,
For all God's creation.
May all of us,
May we be safe and protected from all inner and outer harm.
May all of us know God's peace that surpasses all understanding.
May all of us in this world,
All of us of creation,
May we know God's joy,
May we experience it in our bones.
May all of us,
May we be healthy and strong.
May all of us know God's angels are tending to us in mind,
Body,
Soul and spirit.
May all of us in this world,
May we have ease and love the life that's been given to us.
May we all have ease and love the life that's been given to us.
Again,
You may want to place your hand on your chest or your belly,
Keeping your hands in your lap,
Whatever feels good,
Right,
Organic to you in this moment of practice.
May we have a real sense of the breath of the Holy Spirit being with us,
Moving within our own being and then offering this genuine outflow of God's love.
May the advocate extend to the love that's within us,
The goodness,
The compassion,
The mercy and strength on the wings of angels and by the breath of the Holy Spirit,
May God's love move out into the world,
Into each and every being and may they experience God's love and kindness with them in this moment and the moments to come.
Be well friends.
May you tend to yourself and may God's love travel from you to others.
In Christ's name,
Amen.
