Today,
On calm dot now,
The wave.
That morning,
I woke up earlier than usual,
And I had felt its call,
As if I had perceived its voice through my dream,
I headed straight for the sea in search of my wave.
And there it was,
White,
Sparkling,
Glistening and full of joy and pride.
I reached the very edge of the shore,
And taking off my shirt and shoes,
I dived into the water and waved to her and swam towards her.
As soon as she saw me,
She began to ripple harder and produce more form.
It was her way of expressing her joy.
I mounted her,
Stepping myself,
As if I were on the back of a horse,
And so,
Together,
We pointed into the sea.
At first,
We did it slowly,
And then,
As we moved away from the beach,
As we left the shore behind us,
Like a memory you won't forget,
Faster and faster.
And that's what our game was all about,
Spinning through the water,
Raining other waves,
And jumping over the sea,
And then sliding back into it.
And it was during one of those jumps,
Which we did as a game,
That we reached the height of the seagulls.
Then,
I decided to take hold of the tail of one of them to be able to fly.
But as the weight was too much for the pull,
Another one of the flock came to help her.
So,
With each of my hands holding on to the tail of its seagull,
And my legs firmly gripping the wave,
We took flight.
And that flight was much more than just gliding through the air over the water.
It was a liberating experience.
I could see,
Leaning over the side of my wave,
How we were leaving the water farther and farther away.
And how each wave,
As we moved away,
Was losing its individuality until it merged into a single mantle.
And in that thought I was immersed when I could not see anymore because we had reached the clouds.
The seagulls were more than a tire,
Exhausted,
And consequently we asked them to leave us sitting there,
And they returned to their flock,
Gliding to recover their strange.
From up there we took in the universe as far as our eyes could see.
And as it was not much,
Though more than we could have seen from the ground,
We realized that we could never take it all in,
Except wherever it was by looking into our eyes.
Then,
Taking absorbent cotton from the clouds,
We formed like snowballs and began to throw them at each other,
Provoking a little pretend war until we were exhausted.
And seeing that my wave was starting to pale because of being out of the water for so long,
We decided to go back to it.
Before that we just had to sit on the edge of the clouds with our backs to the sky and let ourselves fall backwards like divers do when they dive.
And so we kept falling and falling.
The air was intoxicating and cursed every inch of our bodies,
And I tried to keep my eyes open to see how the puzzle was being remade in each of its pieces.
And indeed,
As we approached the sea on our way down,
I could glimpse with great accuracy the different waves that greeted us with their wide crests.
And suddenly the contact with the water surprised us like a slap in the body and we began to penetrate it,
Sinking deeper and deeper.
And the deeper we went,
I noticed how the silence was enveloping us and another sound as if without note or spaces,
But rather like a surrounding darkness,
Was displacing the noise of the world until it reached such a fullness that it seemed to form part of ourself and allowed us not only to hear our own heartbeat but,
In my case,
The very flow of blood through my veins.
Then the pressure became unbearable and it was just when we hit bottom that the pressure made me parse and delete until I became a wave like mine.
