This is a short grounding body awareness practice that you can do anywhere.
Sitting at your desk,
Standing in a queue on a Monday morning before a difficult conversation.
Anytime,
Anywhere.
When stress pulls you up into your head,
This practice will bring you back down into your body,
Your breath,
Yourself.
You don't need a mat,
No special position,
Just you arriving back home to yourself.
Let's begin.
Wherever you are right now,
Just pause.
Pause for a second.
You don't need to close your eyes,
You don't need to move.
Just stop for a second.
Take one breath in,
In through the nose and out through the mouth.
Good.
Now notice your shoulders.
Where are they?
Are they up near your ears?
Let them drop.
Just let them fall.
Now your jaw.
Is it clenched?
Are your teeth pressed together?
Ok.
Let a tiny bit of space open between your upper and lower teeth.
Soften your tongue away from the roof of your mouth.
Your hands.
Are they gripping something?
A phone,
A pen or a thought?
Open them.
Turn your palm upwards for just a second.
Then let them rest and easy.
Your belly.
When did you last let it be soft?
Inhale and on your exhale,
Let it go.
Just release it.
Feel your feet on the floor.
That's the earth,
Mother earth holding you.
It always is.
This is a practice of sharira smarana,
Remembering the body because the body never left.
Now take one more breath here.
In through the nose and out through the mouth.
You are back.
Welcome home.
