In yoga asana practice,
We often rush to the first pose,
Eager to stretch,
To move,
Just to get into the pose.
But what if we begin differently,
With reverence,
To the body that made the practice possible at all.
So before we begin,
Let's just take a moment to arrive.
Come into your body,
Not the body you wish you had,
Not the body from last year or someone else's practice,
This one,
The one that brought you here today.
Sit comfortably,
Place one hand on your heart,
Feel it beating,
Now take a breath in,
And as you breathe out,
Sigh,
Take another breath in,
And as you breathe out,
Let one thought settle,
I am grateful to be here.
Your body is not a problem to solve today.
It is not behind,
It is not wrong,
It is not less than,
It is yours.
It is alive,
It showed up,
It's holding you up,
That is enough.
Now let your hands rest,
Soften your face,
And whenever you are ready,
Open your eyes,
And begin.
