Today we are going to find stillness while completing the task of doing dishes.
As we prepare to wash our dishes,
I want you to take a minute to check in with your body.
Are you holding tension anywhere?
Begin to check for tension by first tensing or tightening all the muscles in your body.
Once you have felt the tightening,
Go ahead and release the tension now.
Look to the top of your head and move down through your body,
Releasing tension as you go.
Notice your jaw and neck,
Your shoulders and back,
Your pelvis and tailbone,
And finally your legs and feet.
As you run the water,
Use the soap,
And clean away any of the food from your dishes,
I want you to concentrate your attention on feeling your body.
Look down at your hands while they move through their actions and wonder what it might feel like underneath your skin.
Slow your hands if you need to,
But without stopping your actions,
Feel the energy inside your hands.
This energy is a life force inside us.
It keeps us moving,
It keeps us here,
It helps keep us present,
And it is all we truly have.
Being in the present moment as often as we can helps us to stay grounded.
It anchors our attention and awareness to what we have for certain.
It helps us to truly appreciate all that we have.
As your dishes begin to get clean,
I want you to focus on what you do have.
What can you be grateful for today?
The fact that you are washing dishes means you have running water.
Water is a privilege that some in this world go without.
Instead of saying,
I have to wash dishes,
Try,
I get to wash dishes.
Be grateful for the dishes you have,
The food you have eaten off them,
And the water that cleans them.
You are meant to be here,
Living this life you have been given.
Cherish every moment of it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to meditate with me today.
I hope you feel more centered and grounded to take on the rest of your day.
