Welcome to Awaken Life.
I'm Michael McIntosh.
And I'm Arielle Hecht.
Today on Awaken Life,
We're talking about wealth now and how to become rich today.
So our aim today is to help you experience about 80% of what you want in your life this week or this month.
So in other words,
To cut back the amount of time it takes for you to feel wealthy and experience wealth.
And this is what we do with students and clients all over the world,
All the time,
To make those breakthroughs and to actually get the things that we want.
Because we've been brainwashed by the media,
By advertisers to want things that we don't have and to feel inferior and not good enough and unworthy if we don't have them.
So we've seen literally hundreds of thousands,
If not millions of ads during our lifetime.
And all those ads basically say,
You're not good enough,
You need something you don't have and if only you bought this thing or had this thing,
Then you'd finally feel alright.
So just before we began recording just now,
I went to the mail and I opened a letter and it was some sort of credit card offer.
And it says,
Get to your financial happy place.
And you wouldn't believe it.
It's just what we're talking about today.
There's a picture of a woman relaxing in a canoe on the water.
Now,
Her relaxing in the canoe on the water has nothing to do with getting to your financial happy place.
And that's what we're going to talk about today,
That you can be on the water in the canoe and it has nothing to do with this offer for some sort of credit card or any sort of financial change.
Oftentimes,
We can actually get what we want.
They know the result is you want to relax,
But you can relax now.
So that's what we're going to speak about today.
But we've been inundated with these messages that our ability to relax and enjoy our life is only when we have this much money in our bank account.
So we see these sort of ads all over the place all the time.
Get this,
Buy this,
You know,
You're not going to be good enough to get it.
And then we try and get it.
And then of course,
There's another one,
Isn't there afterwards.
So first of all,
In order to experience wealth,
We have to understand the difference between the old way and the new way of experiencing wealth.
The old way,
The broken way to wealth is to feel not good enough to run around doing stuff you don't like to make money.
And hopefully,
If you've made that money,
You'll be able to buy the stuff that these various advertisers put in front of you.
And hopefully,
If you buy those things,
Then you'll feel better.
But the problem is,
When we get those things,
We either feel disappointed,
Or we feel that it didn't quite do the job and we need something else.
And then what's the solution back to work,
Work,
Work,
Work,
Work,
Or even get into credit card debt.
This offer we're just looking at here.
What they're basically saying is,
Get into debt to buy a bunch of stuff you don't really need,
Instead of actually just doing the thing you want to do.
And in a way,
They're actually giving away the secret right there on the ad.
Just get rid of the offer and just go and lie down and smile.
So we've been told,
Buy this,
Buy this,
Buy this,
And your net worth is your actual value in the world.
If you've got more money,
Then you're a more valuable person.
And if you don't,
Then well,
Poo to you,
You know,
You're not very good,
You're never gonna be good enough.
And it goes on and on and on and on.
Never enough feeling depressed.
So the key insight,
The first key insight to overcome this is to understand the difference between money and wealth.
Money and wealth.
Most people think money and wealth are the same thing.
Most people want money.
They just say,
What do you want?
I want more money,
Want more money.
But there's a huge difference between money and wealth.
Let's just look at the difference.
So money,
What is it?
It comes in the form of bills,
You know,
Dollar bills,
Euros,
Pounds,
Whatever.
It comes in the form of bank statements and numbers on a screen.
Normally people look at their money on their mobile device.
And it comes in the form of coins,
You know,
Pennies and even gold coins.
And it can also be Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies,
Right?
And if you are locked in a room full of millions of dollars worth of bills and a bunch of screens showing how much money you had on your bank account,
But you're locked in the room with all this money.
Imagine yourself,
You're locked in a big warehouse full of billions of dollars.
Is it any good to you?
If you can't get out,
Can't get anything in?
No,
You starve to death in that room.
It's completely useless.
So money itself doesn't have any value at all.
Money is only useful when it gets transferred into other things.
So for example,
You can buy a car with money,
Which then you can drive around with.
So money is only useful when it gets changed into things.
But even when it does get changed into physical things,
A lot of those physical things don't make any difference to us.
Because our experience of wealth is an internal experience.
Someone might get the perfect clothes,
The perfect house and all these things,
But if they feel internally emotionally distraught and distressed and needy,
Then even if they have the big house and the big car and all these things,
It's not going to make any difference.
So if you want to actually experience wealth,
Then the most important thing is to understand what wealth means for you,
For you personally.
And this is very important to get your head around and your heart around.
That it is the feelings,
The states of being and the special situations and things that make you feel good,
That is wealth for you.
And when you understand that,
Then life starts getting a lot easier because instead of looking outside all these advertisers and everyone else and magazines in the world to try and decide whether you're wealthy,
You can look inside yourself and think,
What do I love?
What do I want?
And I'll give you a little story of how I personally use this and how you can use this in your life.
When I discovered that money and wealth are different things and that wealth is an experience,
I started thinking,
Well,
What do I love to do?
What do I not love to do?
And I remember when I was at college,
I first learned about these things and I had a job in the summer,
A full-time job.
And during that time,
I realized how much I disliked full-time work.
I had to,
For the first time in my life,
Had to go in at nine o'clock in the morning and do all this stuff I didn't like for hours and hours and hours and hours.
And I'd come home drained and I'd just kind of try and recover,
Have a shower,
You know,
Have something to eat,
Go back to sleep,
Wake up and I'd be,
Have to be back there again doing stuff I didn't like.
And I thought,
Oh my God,
This is like being in jail.
I'm trapped in this thing and it's really not the way I want to live.
So I realized many years ago that I need to have freedom of time.
Time freedom is a huge value for me.
So I realized that for me to feel wealthy,
I need to have time to do the things that I actually enjoy.
And I also realized that some of the things that I love are being in nature,
Being in beautiful places,
Doing enjoyable activities,
Spending time with people that I enjoy their company.
And so I wrote a list of everything that I'd like to do.
And I realized that if I just focused on those things,
I could feel profoundly wealthy and liberated with very little money,
Very little money.
And I know a lot of other people who instead of that,
They're running around after money.
Whenever I spoke to them,
They're super stressed,
They're depressed,
They hate themselves.
Some people are on various sorts of antidepressants and taking various sorts of drugs because they're internally bankrupt,
Even if they have the money in the bank account.
And what I realized is that ironically,
When we experience inner wealth in ourselves and in our hearts,
Then we start to be in a position where we can serve others,
Which then leads us to financial wealth,
Which then leads back into more of the experiences that we love.
And so this is one of the key insights.
There's a difference between money and wealth.
And you need to think about what do you love?
What brings you joy?
What are the things that touch your heart?
What does wealth mean to you?
And one of our students,
When she understood this,
She was previously thinking that wealth was net worth.
She thought that her amount of wealth was how much money she had in the bank.
So net worth basically means how much is all of your stuff and all of your money added together,
What is it?
You know,
So some people it might be a thousand dollars,
Some people it might be a million dollars or a billion dollars or five hundred thousand dollars.
And her idea was that her wealth was her net worth.
And she felt very unhealthy,
Very poor because her net worth wasn't in the millions and millions like she'd been told it should be.
When she realized that actually wealth is different from money and net worth,
And she started focusing on the things that she loved to do,
She instantly felt happier.
She instantly felt more joyful,
More free,
More,
More wealthy.
And she started doing things like going on picnics with her special little picnic blanket.
And she loves to do that.
She used to go to,
Started going to coffee shops and just looking over the ocean,
Looking over the bay and spending time with friends.
And she started realizing she is extremely wealthy right now.
Another of our clients,
When I asked her,
If you had all the time and money in the world and you could do anything you want,
What would you do?
What would your life be?
What would you experience?
And what she said was,
In my ideal life,
I'd wake up in the morning,
And I'd look to the side and I'd see flowers,
Beautiful flowers,
Beautiful vase of flowers.
Then I'd wake up,
I'd go downstairs into the kitchen and there'd be another vase of flowers on the kitchen table.
And then I'd do yoga.
And then I'd go for a beautiful walk into nature.
And I,
You know,
Sounds great.
Yeah.
I mean,
What's better than that?
And I said,
Well,
Why don't you just go and buy some flowers?
Instead of putting this off 10 years until you've made millions of dollars,
Why don't you just go and get the flowers,
Put them in the vase,
Next to your bed,
On the table,
And do your practice.
And this is the same thing with,
With pretty much everyone.
Even if you talk to billionaires,
The things that make them happy are the little things like spending time with their kids,
Spending time with their friends and family,
Spending time listening to music that they enjoy or doing work that they like to do.
And so when we realize that wealth is the experience and the feeling,
Then we can start focusing on getting those things ourselves.
So another key insight here is actually also that less is more.
Less is more.
We often feel really wealthy when we clear out the excess clutter in our lives,
Whether that's excess clutter in our homes,
It could be excess clutter in our minds,
Could be relationships that are draining our energy,
Excess time on the internet,
You know,
These sorts of things.
Less is more.
And oftentimes,
Like Michael just shared,
What we really want is just that spaciousness to relax and smile and see the flowers and spend time in nature and like this wonderful male that we received,
This,
This woman who's just smiling,
Laying in a canoe,
A simple canoe.
It doesn't look very fancy on the water.
And these are things that we don't have to wait until X,
Y,
And Z to experience.
And fair enough,
Maybe you don't have a canoe,
Maybe there isn't water near you,
But maybe you could go for a walk and maybe there's a place in nature.
You can just lay down and,
You know,
Lay in the sun,
Look at the clouds,
Right?
I mean,
There's,
There's some form of these experiences of wealth that we can have right now.
And what we're going to do in a moment is help you go through some exercises to determine what are these experiences of wealth for you uniquely.
Because what wealth is for me and what wealth is for you,
They might be slightly different.
There are some universal ones.
I think we all want to feel relaxed.
Many of us like to spend time in nature,
This sort of thing.
So before we go into these questions for you to determine what makes you feel wealthy,
I also just want to bring up that our,
What's in the way often of us experiencing wealth now,
Our inner blocks,
They're blocks in our minds,
Not in reality.
We often have upper limit problems where we won't allow ourselves to feel relaxed,
To feel happy,
You know,
To spend some time in the morning and meditation,
To go for a walk near the lake,
To eat the foods that make us feel energized,
Right?
I mean,
There's simple things we can do,
But we often don't allow ourselves because we have this upper limit.
So we have to really assess and ask ourselves,
Am I willing?
Am I willing to feel happy,
Healthy,
Wealthy?
Am I willing to have my life go well?
Because even if our life from an outside perspective is really rich and abundant and beautiful,
If in our minds we're blocking that experience and we're ruminating over negative,
Negative things all the time,
You know,
Nitpicking things that aren't right,
We'll never feel wealthy.
So we need to assess if we're doing this,
If we think we're not worthy,
We're not good enough,
I'm not allowed to feel happy,
We can tend to become quite addicted to suffering or addicted to wasting our time in drama that we don't need to be wasting our time in.
So assess these things,
You know,
Where,
Where is your energy going?
Where is it being drained?
And can you just let go of some of these things in your life?
And can you allow yourself to experience wealth,
Experience happiness and peace right now?
And two other main excuses that are very interesting is we might think,
Oh,
Well,
It's too expensive.
And maybe sometimes some things are too expensive,
But oftentimes,
For example,
Like buying some flowers,
It's not that expensive.
There,
There may be many other places we're wasting money.
And if we really need to,
You know,
Eliminate the $10 or so we're spending on flowers,
Eliminate that $10 we're spending somewhere else,
Then it's worth it.
If that's your ideal experience of wealth,
Do it.
You know,
I realized recently I love rosewater.
It's so lovely,
Especially in the desert,
In Sedona,
In the summer in the heat.
And I realized I was like,
Blocking how much I let myself use the rosewater spray.
But it's so valuable.
It creates an experience of wealth and enjoyment in the hot summer.
It's not that expensive.
It's just this silly idea in our head.
It's a block,
You know,
Or we say,
I don't have the time.
I don't have the time for meditation.
I don't have the time for a walk.
I don't have the time to,
To lay in the canoe,
You know,
One afternoon.
All right,
Well,
Where's your time going?
And perhaps can we download a,
You know,
Time tracking app on our computers and phones?
How much time are we spending there on social media and things?
Can we eliminate that and go and have the beautiful experience instead?
Yeah,
Exactly.
There's always a way of getting what we want.
And when we talk about getting 80%,
What we're meaning is that sometimes to get every single thing we possibly want in life takes time because some things are very specific,
But we can get the feeling and we can get the essence of those things very quickly,
Very easily,
In most cases.
So I'm going to give some examples here about the complex version and the easy version.
Okay,
So we're going to go through some questions in a moment for you,
But let's just first of all,
Help you understand how this works.
So let's say,
For example,
You want to be out in nature and you want to spend some time in nature,
We might have the idea that it wouldn't be wonderful to have a special RV like a leisure van or something.
They're about 100 grand and they're very fancy and you can,
You know,
Be out in the morning and you can be out in nature with this big van.
And that's nice,
But that's also,
You know,
Depending on your situation,
A bit of a hassle.
It's very expensive and you have to park it somewhere and you can only go certain places with those big vans anyway,
Because they don't go down the off-road places very easily.
So the complicated way is to buy some fancy RV.
The easy way is just to do a bit of research,
Buy some high quality camping equipment and go somewhere beautiful and just enjoy it.
You know,
It's fast,
It's easy,
It's fun,
You can lie down on the earth,
It's wonderful.
So sometimes there's a much more confusing,
Long-winded way that doesn't even give us the result we want often.
Another thing is,
For example,
We might be feeling a bit stressed out,
Overworked,
Having a life that we don't really like very much.
I think I just need a month off,
I need to take a full month off,
You know,
And we work,
Work,
Work,
Work,
Work and then we get sick and we get stressed out and we all,
I just need to take a month off.
And it turns out that the easy way is just,
Instead of taking a month off,
Just take a day off.
Just turn the internet off,
Turn the phone off,
Go out somewhere beautiful for a day,
Completely relax.
And by the time you come home,
You might feel profoundly liberated without plane tickets,
Without all this complication.
And then we start thinking,
Well,
Why could I not take maybe the more time off generally and feel more happy overall,
Instead of having a stressful life most of the year and then having a nice experience occasionally.
This was something that was a big profound wake-up call for me,
Is that most people are having a horrible life and then trying to escape it occasionally.
What I realized is that instead of that,
And this is what we're going to be doing with you,
Is to think how can you have a wonderful life now to the degree that you can,
So that you don't need to escape your life because you actually make it nice.
Another example is an artist who was really excited about having an art studio and was always putting off doing artwork.
Later,
Later,
Later,
Later,
I'll be able to finally do my artwork.
I'm looking forward to it.
I really want to do it but I can't do it till I get an art studio.
And this story went on for years and years and years.
Finally,
He got himself an art studio.
And what did he do?
He started working on two inch by two inch little square pencil drawings.
Two inch by two inch.
Which he could have done in his house very,
Very easily.
Did not need to wait years and years and years and pay all this money for an art studio.
Same thing with people who want to write a book.
I want to share my wisdom.
Putting it off,
Putting it off,
Putting it off,
Trying to find a publisher and all the rest of it.
They could just share their wisdom on videos or Facebook live or some other way of just sharing it and help people and cut the time back.
So there's endless,
Endless things like this that we oftentimes we have,
I need the supplements,
I need some special supplement,
I need to buy all this stuff.
And you look in the cupboard and you have the supplement you need or you have something similar.
So there's normally a long-winded version and a very simple way of getting what we want a lot faster.
And when we do that,
We start feeling much,
Much better.
So we are very happy for you because I think you will experience so much joy just allowing yourself to and getting really conscious and clear about wealth,
What wealth means to you.
We know that this has really been a huge blessing in our life,
In our students' lives,
And we are really happy to share this with you.
So go ahead and just grab a piece of paper and a pen so that you can write down some answers to these questions.
And you can just pause this audio for a moment if you need to.
Okay.
So the first question is,
What is wealth for you?
What is the experience of wealth?
What comes to your mind?
What do you see yourself doing?
What is the feeling state?
Even if you had all the money in the world,
What would really mean the most to you on a daily basis?
What would you be doing?
What would you be feeling?
And go ahead and write down your thoughts to that.
And just write down whatever comes to mind.
And you can always come back to this and add to your list of what does wealth really mean to you?
What does it feel like?
What does it look like?
What are the things that you'd be doing?
And remember that it's often very simple things that lead to those very deep and rich and meaningful experiences.
And now as you look at your list,
And again,
You can always come back to this.
When you look at your list,
Think how can you actually experience some of these things now in some way?
And I'm sure there are at least a few things on your list you can experience now.
Sometimes it might mean eliminating some things from your life that aren't necessary,
You don't need,
Or time wasters.
Sometimes it means arranging things a little differently,
Letting go of mental blocks.
But really,
What can you experience some of right now?
And go ahead and just make a little star,
Make a little note by those things you can experience now to some degree.
And remember that this is getting 80% of the way there.
So you might not be able to have the whole thing,
But how can you have some of it,
A little bit of it?
Okay,
And you can always come back to this.
And the next thing is,
On your list,
Which one of these things do you feel would make the biggest difference to your life?
And you can pick one or two or so,
What would really make the biggest difference?
Sometimes it's one or two things that just make our entire lives so much better.
We feel healthier,
We feel happier,
We feel wealthier.
So just go ahead and make a note by those things on your list that will make the biggest difference.
Beautiful.
And lastly,
Make a note at the bottom of your list.
What are the things that you can remove from your life that will support you in experiencing these things that bring wealth and happiness and light into your life?
You know,
Some ideas,
It could be too much time on the computer or on the phone.
It could be that there are some relationships in your life that aren't serving you,
Maybe aren't necessary or draining,
Or maybe you're overextending and you're saying yes to too many things.
You don't need to.
There's ways you can get more help,
Right?
Just a few ideas,
But think for yourself,
What are some of the things you can remove from your life?
So congratulations.
This is a huge step in the right direction because when you start thinking about yourself,
Your own life,
Your values,
What you personally feel good about,
Then you're taking wealth back into your own hands and getting away from all these various advertisers and various people trying to get you to buy into their version of wealth.
And just to give you a few ideas,
You know,
Many people find that things like sitting in the sun,
Reading a book with a cup of tea is what they really want.
The amount of times that we've done these sort of exercises with people,
Imagine you can have anything in the world,
You have all this money and time and everything else,
And what do you want to do?
And they say,
I just want to sit in the sun,
Read a book.
That's it,
You know,
Because it's the little things that make the biggest difference.
So we need to prioritize those sort of things above all the other things,
Because we can be running around stressing ourselves out to get that little bit of extra money or that little bit of extra something and causing ourselves sorrow in the process and not enjoying our lives.
So real wealth means to have an enjoyable life.
And this is something that has really changed my life.
Instead of running around after things later on,
I realized how can I have the kind of life that I want now?
And as a result of that,
I've been very happy for a long time,
Helped loads of people,
And also financial wealth has been there as well,
Because when we're in a good space and we feel happy and joyful,
Then we can create things that actually help others as well.
So by you being happy and wealthy in a real way,
You will manifest and attract to yourself more wealth,
More abundance.
And as you look into the gratitude,
What are you grateful for?
As you start to look around your life and say,
I'm grateful for this,
I'm grateful for this.
Doing a gratitude list every day is a very good idea.
Because as you focus on what you are already enjoying,
You start to notice more things like that,
Which allows more things that are blessings to you to arrive on your doorstep.
Right.
And less is more,
Less is more.
You know,
What we're talking about here is the exact opposite of this mail that I have here that says,
Get to your financial happy place with the picture of the girl in the canoe.
By being in the canoe in the sun with your smile,
Experiencing that real wealth now,
Like Michael said,
You enter the right consciousness and awareness and ability to help others and create financial wealth.
Not the other way around.
This ad saying,
You will get to be in that canoe in that happy place if you get this credit card,
Right?
But we're saying,
No,
No,
No,
You get in the canoe in the sun and enjoy yourself.
And then you'll naturally create a beautiful experience and even financial wealth.
So it's the opposite of these messages.
Yeah,
We attract what we are.
So if you feel inspired,
And if you feel at peace,
Then you'll attract more things like that.
If someone gets into debt and they're super stressed out,
Like we know people who've got into quite significant credit card debt,
And they're very,
Very disturbed people because that's,
So they've bought into these things one way or another and ended up in a very dark place.
They're not sitting on a canoe and smiling away.
They're stressing out worrying about money,
Whereas it'd be better off if they just got into the canoe.
And these people who are getting this credit card off,
Or I can pretty much guarantee you they're not even going to get in the canoe and go to that enjoyable space.
Funny enough.
That reminds me of the story of the fisherman who would wake up in the morning,
He'd look at the beautiful sun coming up over the ocean,
Then go out fishing,
Relaxed in his beautiful little boat,
The glistening sun on the ocean.
He'd catch as much as he needs to and then leisurely come home,
Have lunch with his wife and kids,
Take a siesta and then spend the evening playing cards,
Playing music with his friends.
And then one day,
As he's coming back from his afternoon catch,
Ready to go for lunch,
He meets an American businessman who says,
You know what,
I've been watching you,
You go out there every day,
But you come back at lunchtime,
You know what you could do,
You could work a bit longer,
Catch a bit extra fish,
Which you could then sell.
And with that extra money,
You could get a few more boats and get some guys to work with you.
And then you could even set up your own cannery,
Your own factory where you could process the fish and then you could send that off internationally.
And the fisherman said,
Well,
All right,
Well,
Why would I want to do that?
And he says,
Because then finally,
If you work hard enough,
You might be able to sell your business at a nice profit after many,
Many years.
And then you'll finally be able to just get up and relax,
Maybe go fishing a little bit.
And you could come home and take a siesta and you can just spend the evening playing music or whatever you want.
And so this is the ready the story of our life,
Of our world.
That many times,
Instead of just getting what we want now,
We're adding all these complications and roundabout ways and making our life more stressful.
When in fact,
We could come back,
Keep it simple,
Find out what you love to do.
Think about what you want to feel and find the easiest,
Most enjoyable way to that experience.
And one of the beautiful things about meditation in particular is that if you think about it,
Why do we have money?
We've talked about this.
We make money so we can buy stuff.
Why do we buy stuff?
We buy stuff so that we can feel something,
Maybe feel a bit happier,
Feel a bit more relaxed,
More comfortable,
Whatever it is.
So we are buying things to feel something.
If you do meditation and you get good at it,
You can feel the feelings that you want directly.
And this is something that has really helped me in my life is I realized I could cut out all this extra work and running around and all this stuff and just get straight to the good feelings and enjoy my life now.
So how can you experience wealth now?
So to recap those questions,
And again,
You might want to spend more time with them and write down what you think about meditation.
And if you're not,
You're going to have to and write some more things down.
What is wealth to you?
And how can you get some of those things now in some way?
Which ones will make the biggest difference in your life now?
You know,
Just pick a few.
And what can you remove to create more space for the things that really mean a lot to you?
We can all do it.
And if we have blocks,
It's oftentimes inner blocks.
So question those.
And am I willing to feel happy and wealthy and healthy and have my life go well?
And what do I need to let go of?
And how can I focus on those experiences of wealth now and become rich today?
Thank you for your beautiful presence.
May you enjoy that wealth.
And as you do,
More and more and more will come starting now.
We're wishing you many blessings and a lot of happiness as you go ahead and bring more of these beautiful experiences into your life.
We'll connect soon.
Take care.
