Please come into a comfortable seat.
You can sit onto a floor with pelvis slightly raised where you can sit on to a chair or couch,
Feet planting deeply to the floor.
This is a first chakra meditation focused on grounding,
Rooting down to the floor,
To the earth,
To the center of this planet.
Please exhale through the mouth a few times.
Let yourself arrive to your seat,
To this space surrounding you.
Take an inventory how the body is feeling today.
Any area of your body that you feel stiff,
Spacious,
Light,
Or heavy.
Begin to notice the movement of the breath.
Really rise and fold.
See if you can guide your breath down to your low belly as an indication of you grounding yourself down to the floor,
To the ground.
Lastly,
Notice your heart.
How is your heart feeling today?
Is there any particular emotion or sensation resting inside of you?
There's no good or bad,
Simply just as is.
The quality of first chakra is the connection to the earth,
Connection to our physical body,
And safety.
Please bring your awareness to your pelvis,
The surface touching on to the ground or the surface of the chair.
From the base of the spine,
Lift the crown of the head up and locate your tailbone,
The base of your spine.
Imagine from the tailbone,
Roots are coming out down to the floor,
Down beneath the building that you live,
Down into the earth,
Down to the center of this planet.
You are deeply connected to the earth herself.
Not only the root is going downward,
It's going sideways as well.
The little intricate tiny roots extending outwards,
Connecting to other roots,
Your loved ones,
Even strangers in the nature.
Can you feel the stability of your pelvis?
Can you feel the rootedness of your beings?
As you continue to meditate here,
Notice the lower part of the body is becoming heavy,
Establishing the connection with the ground beneath you,
The earth beneath you,
Rooting yourself so deeply down towards the earth.
Now please once again bring your attention to your pelvis.
From the pelvis,
Lift your spine up once again as if the torso is the trunk of a tree.
When the foundation of the tree is deeply rooted,
The tree begins to grow upward.
Notice the grounding,
Notice the rising as you stay in this meditation.
When you find yourself thinking,
Come back to this imagery of rooting,
The roots growing beneath you,
Sideways,
Trunk rising upward.
We'll stay here for about a minute in silence.
You can continue to stay here in meditation.
If you decide to close your meditation,
Bring your palms together at your heart,
Thinking yourself for taking the time to meditate today and gently rest your hands on top of your upper thigh and root your thighs down as you lift the crown of the head up.
May we continue to remember the roots beneath us which help us to feel grounded,
Secure,
And confident.
