Keep a space inside you.
Don't be in a rush to crowd it out because it's easily done.
Having that space inside you in which you feel you can breathe properly,
That you feel you have time for the things you do.
That's the thing we most quickly surrender.
That's the thing we give up so quickly and it's the thing that when we find it we realize how precious it is.
So don't judge your life by the amount of things that you cram it full of.
By the quality that you bring to the things that you do.
Which may mean a little less,
A little better.
A little more time for the things that are important and a willingness to let go of the things that aren't.
You can't have everything.
You can't.
Wanting more than you can put into your life comfortably is nothing but a vexation.
And before you know it,
Everything stops making sense.
Let go of the stuff that crowds you out so you can breathe with the things that are meaningful for you.
It's not rocket science.
It's just choices and make them.
Make them.
Most of the reason that we struggle these days is not because we're struggling to survive.
It's because we're struggling to keep an inordinately complicated show on the road.
Maybe we've become so extraordinarily elaborate that life has just got too much in it.
We can't breathe anymore.
Find a little space for some simplicity and enjoy it.
It's just a brief time.
It's actually not a long time and it's so rare.
Find the things that you want in your life that are reasonable to expect and honor them.
Don't find yourself months and years gone by going,
I wish I'd given more time to this or that.
I hear a lot of stories tell me about how their life is completely all over the shop.
They've lost their way.
They don't know what they're doing.
It doesn't matter what you do.
People spending their entire life trying to figure out what they were supposed to have done with it.
It doesn't matter what you do.
You know,
Tinker,
Tailor,
Soldier,
Sailor,
Rich man,
Poor man,
Beggar man,
Thief.
Whatever it is we could possibly do,
We've dreamed it up and done it amongst us.
There are a lot of miserable tinkers and tailors.
There are a lot of happy ones.
There are a lot of miserable soldiers and sailors.
There are a lot of happy ones.
It doesn't matter what you do.
It's the heart with which you do it.
Remember that.
Maybe what you're already doing could be more than enough if you could give your whole heart to it.
And if it's not,
Then let it go.
Do make the choices and the decisions that are important and enjoy it.
It's just a brief time.
