One of the quickest ways to dismantle blame is to activate compassion. It can feel repulsive and frustrating at first. It's so much more compelling to "other" people and see yourself as separate and either superior or inferior to them. When you're willing to shift your attention to how you're alike, or how they can teach you, not only do you immediately soften, but compassion takes over, and you get liberated from the "othering" trap. This is what it means to let the world be your mirror.

The things that you can't see about yourself,

Other people will reflect to you.

It's like clockwork.

You can guarantee.

When someone is reflecting something to you and you associate it or pin it on them,

That's how they are,

You separate yourself from it and you also push down that aspect of yourself.

Whether it's something you like or not,

There is an actual way of being,

An actual way of living in the world,

Which you may consider putting on your vision board,

Of seeing what connects you to other people everywhere you go.

What connects you to the homeless man on Venice Boulevard?

What connects you to the competitors in your industry?

What connects you to your partner?

What connects you to the people at the hospital?

What connects you to your ex-partners?

What connects you to your problem children if you have them?

What connects you to your cat?

What connects you to the person driving the train that you're on?

Looking for the mindset and the embodied way of being,

Of looking for familiarity in the unfamiliar is one of the most valuable and most potent ways to let go of charge,

Blame,

And resentment and discord.

Being willing to see yourself in other people,

Being willing to allow other people to reflect you,

Even if they're dumber than you,

Even if they have hurt your feelings,

Even if they just said something that you outrageously not only disagree with,

But that pushes up against your moral standings in the world.

No matter what,

If you allow them to reflect you and you allow yourself to love the aspect of them that you disagree with or you judge or you place value on,

You get liberated.

You get liberated from the blame,

The hamster wheel of obsessive thinking about whether this thing is going to happen again in this new environment or learning how to be graceful in your departures from people.

You have to learn to find gratitude for who they are.

A predecessor of this is often finding gratitude for who you are,

Which is being aware of what it is that you bring that is unique,

That you have to share with the world that has value and also recognizing that everyone else in the world is on a similar journey,

Whether it's over or not.

Wow I needed to hear this now, I was overthinking about someone’s behavior instead of focusing on myself and my lesson. Thank you!

If you spot it, you got it! People who trigger us reflect our shadow sides. When we also recognize others’ needs and struggles as reflecting our own , we can more easily be compassionate and accepting of them and of ourselves
