The breathing space.
For the next few minutes,
There is nowhere else you need to be.
Nothing you need to solve,
Nothing you need to improve.
Just a few minutes to stop.
If it feels comfortable,
Close your eyes or simply soften your gaze.
And begin.
By noticing your breathing.
You know breath really well.
You watch it,
You measure it,
You support it,
You notice when it changes.
For these few minutes though,
There is nothing you need to do with the breath.
Just notice your own.
Breathing in,
Breathing out.
Perhaps even allowing your exhale to be a little slower or a little longer.
And noticing the support underneath you.
So your chair,
The floor,
Your feet making contact with the ground.
Let yourself arrive here.
Not in the case you have just finished,
Not in the list of things still to do,
Not in tomorrow's exam,
Next week's roster or the conversation you are replaying.
Just here.
Let yourself arrive here.
Your mind will probably wonder,
That's not a problem.
Completely normal.
Mind's wonder.
The practice is simply noticing that this has gone on somewhere else and choosing to bring your attention back.
Back to one breath.
Or back to your feet.
Or back to a sound in the room.
Just try this for a bit.
You're practicing something very simple.
Choosing where your attention goes.
There may still be thoughts.
There may still be tension.
You don't have to make any of it disappear.
Let it be there in the background while you stay with the next breath.
And out.
For once,
Nothing needs your immediate response.
You don't need to fix,
Organise,
Diagnose or anticipate.
You can simply sit here.
And perhaps underneath all the activity.
Your system gets the message.
For these few moments I can stop.
Notice whether there is even 1% more space now,
1% less rushing,
1% more available for whatever comes next.
No dramatic transformation required here,
Just a small reset.
One breath,
One pause,
One moment of returning.
And when you're ready,
Gently opening your eyes,
Notice the room again,
And take that little bit of space with you into whatever comes next.
Well done.
