The Barabar Caves, sometimes also referred to as the Khalatika Caves after the hill's name during the time of Ashoka, or the 'Sat-Garha Caves' (Seven Storeyed Caves), are the oldest artificial caves in India, dating back to the Maurya Empire (322-185 BCE). These granite caves were extremely polished to be almost as flat as glass. The degree of technical prowess still continues to amaze as it easily competes with today's modern technologies. The most unusual feature of caves is their echo effect. The vault and polished walls in the enclosed, small room make perfect conditions for making otherworldly sounds. Reverberation continues for several seconds and the initial sound is continuously changing. Most likely the walls were polished exactly for the attainment of this echo effect, it must have served well for religious experiences during the chants. They all share the same recorded resonating frequencies. Here are the re-generated recorded resonating frequencies from the caves.
