Let's get comfy as we prepare for three minutes of meditation about patience.
Settle in,
Sitting or lying down.
Feel the weight of your body being supported under you.
Let's take in a long,
Deep breath,
And if you wish,
Hold it for a second or two.
Then let it go.
As you release your breath,
Feel any tensions of the day leaving your body.
Close your eyes,
Or if you prefer to have them open,
Slightly open,
Only glancing softly in front of you.
There's nothing else to think about,
Nothing else to do.
Just listen to my voice and relax.
So,
What is patience?
The first thought that might come to mind is what patience is not.
Haven't we all felt frustrated or angry at one point or another?
It may be that something is not happening the way we expected it to happen,
Or not happening quickly enough.
Patience is being calm despite whatever is happening in the present moment,
Remaining calm and in control of feelings.
Patience is the fire extinguisher that suppresses the flames in a heated moment.
That patient pause when hearing a difference of opinion,
Or facing an unpleasant circumstance creates a gap where an alternative to anger or impatience might come to mind,
Where a solution is more likely.
Practicing patience isn't always easy,
Yet being patient will most certainly prevent regrets that expressing the emotions of frustration or anger might lead to.
Let's try a little patience meditation now.
I invite you to repeat a phrase in your mind like,
I am patient,
Or I will not be angry today,
During the next three minutes.
Repeat the phrase in your mind for the entire time,
Silently repeating,
Slowly,
Calmly.
If you drift away to other thoughts,
It happens.
Let the thought go and come back to the phrase you've chosen to repeat.
I am patient.
I am patient.
I am patient.
The background music will continue.
I'll watch the time and ring a soft bell after three minutes.
Let's start now.
Three minutes of patient reflection.
Congratulations.
You've joined millions of people around the world meditating to make the world more harmonious,
Where we aim to become more patient than we were yesterday.
How about a patience challenge today?
Try today,
Or at the earliest opportunity,
In the heat of a moment,
To recognize when you are beginning to feel frustration or anger coming up inside you.
Then,
Reach into your patience mindset.
Taking a deep breath or two will help.
And use that fire extinguisher of patience to douse the flames.
Then feel great that patience wins the moment.
You'll be making the world a better place for everyone,
One patient moment at a time.
Thank you for being here today,
For patiently being here now.
Be well,
My friend.
