This meditative technique based on body-oriented psychotherapy will allow you to quickly feel safe and protected in trying times. It creates a Safe Place for you, where you can relax, ground yourself and let go of all negativity. You can use this practice any time of the day or even through the night to lull you to sleep. It can calm panic attacks and soothe anxiety.

Transcript

Allow yourself to be in a comfortable position,

Either lying down or sitting up.

If you are sitting up,

Place a pillow behind your back and allow your neck and back to be nicely supported.

If you are lying down,

Take some time to get comfortable and make sure that you are warm.

When you are comfortable,

You can slowly and gently close your eyes.

Remember that you are safe and you are in control.

Now let your body begin to relax by releasing the areas of tension through calm and deep breathing.

Take slow deep breaths and as you exhale,

Let the tension go away.

Listen to where your body holds any tension.

Focus on this area.

Take a breath in and feel this area relaxing as you breathe out.

Feel how with each breath you take,

This relaxing feeling becomes deeper and warmer.

Now your whole body starts to relax.

Your legs fully relax.

Your belly starts to relax.

Your arms release any tension they hold.

Your back relaxes.

Your neck and your face.

Your jaw relaxes and softens.

Your forehead.

Your scalp.

Feel everything relaxing.

And now everything is soft and relaxed.

Continue your breathing in a comfortable way.

Your breathing will naturally slow down.

Breathe in and breathe out.

You are totally safe now.

You are in control.

Breathe in and breathe out.

Your body is soft and relaxed.

Now as you continue breathing deeply and calmly,

Allow yourself to picture in your mind a place where you can be totally safe,

Protected.

Imagine this place.

Nothing can hurt you there.

It is a very safe place.

What is the first place that comes to your mind when you think of a safe place?

Picture this place in every detail.

A place that feels so harmonious,

Protected,

Serene.

Maybe you are in a beautiful place of nature.

Or maybe you are inside somebody's house where you feel loved and safe.

Wherever you are in this place of safety,

No one can come in without your invitation.

Here you are always at peace.

Imagine the details of your surroundings.

Notice the beautiful colours around you.

The hues,

Maybe the iridescent shimmering.

What season is it?

Is it warm or pleasantly chilly?

What smells do you notice?

Is it sweet or refreshing?

Other birds overhead listen to their singing.

It is beautiful.

What other sounds do you hear?

Let the sounds peacefully lull you.

You feel so tranquilly there.

Notice if there is any breeze or wind.

Feel its warm touch on your face.

It is so warm and gentle.

Allow yourself to take in all the senses you experience now.

Feeling peaceful,

Safe,

Protected.

Breathe in deeply and breathe out with a long,

Relaxing exhale.

Now allow yourself to lie down in this safe place and start feeling the ground beneath you.

The earth below is gently warming you.

Feel how the earth is calmly lulling you,

Allowing you to relax even deeper and feel even more safe.

Feel how your body is resting on the ground.

All the tensions go away in this miraculous safe place.

Breathe in the warmth and vibrancy of the air,

Allowing it to fill you with calmness and peace from the tips of your toes to the top of your head.

How do you feel now?

Allow yourself to take in all the senses you experience,

Feeling peaceful,

Safe,

Protected.

Breathe in and breathe out with a long,

Relaxing exhale.

This place is always yours.

It belongs to you and you can stay here however long you need.

It is always here for you.

It is always ready to embrace you in a warm,

Loving hug.

Give yourself enough time to enjoy this place.

Explore it.

Enjoy its strength and beauty and calmness.

This place makes you feel very safe and you know that you can return to your self-place any time you like.

When you are ready,

You know it's time to leave.

Slowly start moving your legs and arms,

Your neck.

Slowly open your eyes when you are ready.

Continue to breathe smoothly.

Take a moment to enjoy the energy inside you and remember that you can always go back to your safe place.

It is inside you.

Enjoys everything.
