Lesson 40.
I am blessed as a child of God.
This is a course in miracles.
It is a required course.
Only the time you take it is voluntary.
Some of the ideas the exercises present you will find hard to believe and others may seem to be quite startling.
This does not matter.
You are merely asked to apply the ideas as you are directed to do.
You are not asked to judge them at all.
It is their use that will give them meaning to you and will show you that they are true.
I am blessed as a child of God.
Today we will begin to assert some of the happy things to which you are entitled being what you are.
No long practice periods are required today,
But very frequent short ones are necessary.
Practice every ten minutes would be highly desirable.
And you are urged to attempt this schedule and to adhere to it whenever possible.
If you forget,
Try again.
If there are long interruptions,
Try again.
Whenever you remember,
Try again.
You need not close your eyes for the exercise periods,
Although you will probably find it more helpful if you do.
However,
You may be in a number of situations during the day when closing your eyes would not be feasible.
Do not miss a practice period because of this.
You can practice quite well under any circumstances if you really want to.
Let's practice.
Say it to yourself.
Say in your mind.
I am blessed as a child of God.
I'll be silent.
Today's exercises take a little time and no effort.
Repeat the idea for today and then add several of the attributes you associate with being a child of God,
Applying them to yourself.
One practice period,
For example,
Might consist of the following.
I am blessed as a child of God.
I am happy,
Peaceful,
Loving,
And contented.
Another might take this form.
I am blessed as a child of God.
I am calm,
Quiet,
Assured,
And confident.
Let's practice again.
Open your eyes.
Say to yourself,
Repeat after me.
I am blessed as a child of God.
I am happy,
Peaceful,
Loving,
And contented.
Close your eyes.
Say to yourself,
In your mind.
I am blessed as a child of God.
I am calm,
Quiet,
Assured,
And confident.
If only a brief period is available,
Merely telling yourself that you are blessed as a child of God will do.
I am calm,
Quiet,
And confident.
I am happy,
Peaceful,
Loving,
And contented.
I am happy,
Peaceful,
Loving,
And contented.
I am blessed as a child of God.
I am blessed.
I am happy,
Peaceful,
And contented.
The purpose of the workbook is to train your mind in a systematic way to a different perception of everyone and everything in the world.
I am blessed as a child of God.
Remember only this.
You need not believe the ideas.
You need not accept them.
And you need not even welcome them.
Some of them you may actively resist.
None of this will matter or decrease their efficacy.
But do not allow yourself to make exceptions in applying the ideas the workbook contains.
And whatever your reactions to the ideas may be,
Use them.
Nothing more than that is required.
Let's return our awareness to our physical body.
Start this process by taking a few deep breaths.
And as we return to time and space,
We acknowledge,
I am aware.
I am.
Nothing real can be threatened.
Nothing unreal exists.
Herein lies the peace of God.
