Welcome to active meditation.
A Course in Miracles.
Lesson 3.
I do not understand anything I see.
I do not understand anything I see.
We prepare for this exercise by placing our body in a comfortable position so that we won't have to move it for several minutes.
We close our eyes.
We will be opening them up again for this exercise.
We take three deep breaths to relax our mind and body.
The out-breath is longer than the in-breath.
And to help relax,
We remove all expression from our face.
Do this now.
Place your body in a comfortable position.
Take three deep breaths and remove all expression from your face.
This is a Course in Miracles.
It is a required Course.
Only the time you take it,
You will take it,
Is voluntary.
Free will does not mean that you can establish the curriculum.
It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time.
The Course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love,
For that is beyond what can be taught.
It does aim,
However,
At removing the blocks to the awareness of love's presence,
Which is your natural inheritance.
The opposite of love is fear,
But what is all-encompassing can have no opposite.
This Course can therefore be summed up very simply in this way.
Nothing real can be threatened.
Nothing unreal exists.
I do not understand anything I see.
Apply this idea in the same way as the previous ones,
Without making distinctions of any kind.
Whatever you see becomes a proper subject for applying the idea.
Be sure that you do not question the suitability of anything for the application of the idea.
These are not exercises in judgment.
Anything is suitable if you see it.
Some of the things you see may have an emotionally charged meaning for you.
Try to lay such feelings aside and merely use these things exactly as you would anything else.
Open your eyes.
Survey your surroundings.
Say to yourself,
Recite in your mind,
I do not understand anything that I see in this world.
Close your eyes.
The point of the exercises is to help you clear your mind of all past associations,
To see things exactly as they appear to you now,
And to realize how little you really understand about them.
Open your eyes.
Increase the range outward.
Turn your head so that you include whatever is on either side.
Say to yourself,
Say in your mind,
I do not understand anything that I see in this area.
Close your eyes.
It is essential that you keep a perfectly open mind,
Unhampered by judgment,
And selecting the things to which the idea for the day is to be applied.
For this purpose,
One thing is like another,
Equally suitable and therefore equally useful.
Open your eyes.
If possible,
Turn around and apply the idea to what is behind you.
Say to yourself,
Say in your mind,
I do not understand anything that I see in this area.
Close your eyes.
This lesson should not be done more than twice a day,
Preferably morning and evening,
Nor should it be attempted for more than a minute or so,
Unless that entails a sense of hurry for you.
A comfortable sense of leisure is essential.
I do not understand anything I see.
Let's return to our regular waking state of thoughts,
Feelings,
And actions,
To time and space.
And as we do this,
We know that our personality has made progress in developing a working relationship with our higher self,
The conscious presence.
Take a few deep breaths to help establish the waking state.
And return fully alert,
Comfortable in all instruments of awareness,
With a heightened awareness of our environment and the knowledge I am aware of.
I am.
Nothing real can be threatened.
Nothing unreal exists.
Herein lies the peace of God.
