Welcome to Caregiver Calm with Valerie B.
This is a calm space created for caregivers.
As a caregiver,
You probably spend much of your time managing schedules and making appointments,
Managing medications,
And holding everything together.
And you rarely stop to make time for yourself.
But we're going to take this time to release what's heavy.
And I remind you that you are not alone.
Today's reset is a gentle reminder that you are allowed to pause.
Even caregivers deserve a moment to breathe and to reset and to simply just be.
So for the next few minutes,
Nothing else needs your attention.
Just breathe.
Pause with me.
And we're going to breathe throughout this reset.
We're going to inhale through our nose for four,
Hold it for four,
And exhale through our mouth slowly for six.
Let's try it.
Inhale through your nose for four,
Hold it for four,
Now exhale slowly through your mouth for six.
Good job.
Caregivers don't usually give themselves permission to pause.
Why?
Because there's always one more thing to do,
Just one more detail to handle,
One more decision that's waiting for your attention,
And one more appointment to make.
You've even started believing that pausing means that you're falling behind,
That you're going to forget something.
But that's not true.
Pausing is not neglect.
Pausing is not weakness.
Pausing is wisdom.
You may be that very strong caregiver,
But even strength needs recovery.
Even the most capable caregiver is still human.
So ask yourself,
What would a 10-minute pause look like today?
What am I afraid will happen if I slow down?
Remember,
You don't have to carry every moment perfectly.
You only need to handle what's in front of you right now,
Nothing more.
So let's pause again.
Let's breathe.
Inhale for four,
Hold it for four,
And exhale slowly for six.
If you are a man or woman of faith,
You can release what's too heavy for you,
Because you were not meant to carry everything by yourself.
You can say a quiet prayer.
You can whisper,
Help me.
You can surrender and make that decision that I don't have to control everything.
That is strength that's rooted in trust.
So right now,
I want you to unclench your jaw,
Because a lot of times that's where stress sits.
Let your shoulders drop,
And let's take one more slow breath.
Inhale for two,
For four,
Hold it for four,
That's it.
Remind yourself that taking care of yourself is not stepping away from your responsibility.
It's just giving you the strength to be able to carry it,
Whatever that is.
You're doing rewarding work.
You're allowed to pause.
You're allowed to reset.
And you're doing meaningful work,
And you deserve support.
So this space will be here,
So that you can just come back and reset.
Thank you for spitting the reset with me,
And if this reset gave you a small sense of peace,
Save it for later and share with another caregiver.
And please remember,
You are allowed to pause.
Until next time,
Be gentle with you,
Because you're carrying more than most people know.
And you are stronger than you feel.
And guess what?
Your calm does matter.
And I'll be here when you need a calm again.
