This is the Poem honoring the great sage Patanjali; author of the Yoga Sutras. As taught by Sri Desikachar it is not considered a Vedic Mantra but the rules of Vedic chanting are applied to the tone, the pronunciation, and the rhythm of the Sanskrit verse. The initial sound of AUM is used to set the mid-tone of the Mantra. Chanted at the beginning of every traditional Ashtanga Yoga practice, and considered appropriate to recite before or after any Yoga practice or Yoga philosophy lesson. Please enjoy.
