If I want to balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain and get mental clarity, I practice Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing). It purifies the body's energy channels (nadis), reduces stress and anxiety, and supports a steady, focused mind. For me this pranayama is an excellent practice before meditation or any demanding mental work.
