Hello my friend,
Welcome to your sleep story.
My name is Stephen Dalton.
I'm an Irish storyteller,
And it's my great privilege to be the voice that you listen to as you go to sleep tonight.
As you may well know,
I read all of the comments that you write,
And I love when you suggest stories.
Tonight's story was a suggestion by one of you,
With a little tweaking by me.
One of you suggested a door in a bedroom that leads to a magical world.
And so tonight,
We will meet Annabelle and her trusty teddy bear Hubert,
And we will go with them on a very gentle,
Calm,
And cozy adventure.
Okay,
Let's do the relaxation session now,
Which will take a few minutes,
Before tonight's sleep story.
I'm going to count down from ten to one,
And as I do,
Allow yourself to let go more and more.
Ten.
Feel the support of the bed beneath you,
Or the floor,
Or whatever you lie upon tonight.
And beneath that,
The support of the earth,
Our home.
And as you become aware of those supports beneath you,
See if you can let go a little more now.
Ease into this moment a little more now.
You are safe.
Allow my voice to be an anchor of safety tonight,
To be a friend.
Know that my voice will only ever take you to safe places.
And with that knowledge,
Feel a sense of lightness,
A sense of freedom,
A sense of letting go.
Of the heaviness of the day.
Feel into your body now.
Just notice whatever you notice.
Maybe it's tension.
Maybe it's tingling.
Maybe it's pain.
Maybe you feel it in your feet.
Or in your belly.
Or in your hands.
Or in your face.
And see if you can let go a little more now.
Wherever you feel,
Whatever you feel.
Seven.
Today is done.
Whatever has been,
Has been.
Whatever will be,
Will be.
So whatever thoughts you might be having now,
See if you can just watch them float away.
Like clouds passing in a starlit sky.
Or leaves floating away from you on a moonlit river.
Thoughts are not enemies.
They aren't to be fought.
But they don't serve you now.
So experience them as a part of being human.
But know that you are not them.
And let them go.
Six.
This is your moment.
This is your time.
You deserve this moment.
You deserve to have this time.
Allow that fact to enable you to sink into this moment.
A little bit more now.
To let go.
A little bit more now.
Five.
Peace lives within you.
It is always there.
It is your constant friend.
See if you can find it tonight.
If you can feel it.
And if you do,
Where do you feel it?
Maybe it's in your head.
Or maybe it's in your heart.
Just know that it is there.
Always waiting to be found.
Always waiting to be felt.
Four.
Perhaps allow a little gratitude now.
Gratitude for the simple things.
Gratitude for the shelter you have tonight.
For those you love.
For your body.
For your breath.
Three.
Begin to engage with your imagination now.
Begin to see a cozy little bedroom where a little girl named Annabelle sleeps next to her trusty teddy bear Hubert.
Begin to really let yourself enter this world of peace.
Of coziness.
This world that is far away from all that you know.
Two.
Checking in with your body one more time now.
Releasing any tension one more time now.
It has worked hard for you today.
It deserves rest.
And one.
Completely letting go now.
As I tell you tonight's sleep story.
It is deep in the night.
It is winter.
And the howl of the wind outside is a comforting reminder of how safe and cozy Annabelle is in her bed tonight.
The little girl loves this time of year.
Christmas isn't too far away.
And she has peace in her heart as she lies snugly in her little bed.
She is a very loved little girl.
And she knows it.
She holds her teddy bear close to her.
His name is Hubert.
And she loves him dearly.
She has had him since she was a baby.
Which feels like,
Well,
Like a lifetime ago to little Annabelle.
Annabelle has one wish.
It is for Hubert to be able to talk.
And that is why nearly every night Annabelle goes to sleep making that wish.
And tonight is no different.
She lies in the soft glow of her nightlight.
And her eyes begin to grow heavy.
Her breaths slowing to a gentle,
Steady rhythm.
She holds Hubert close.
His familiar plush fur warm beneath her fingertips.
Outside,
The wind continues to hum through the trees.
And just as her eyelids begin to flutter closed,
Annabelle hears something.
A soft,
Quiet sound.
Like a whisper.
Barely more than a murmur.
She stirs slightly.
Thinking perhaps it was the wind.
But then she hears it again.
Clearer this time.
And unmistakably close.
Hello,
Annabelle,
A warm,
Gentle voice says.
Annabelle's eyes fly open.
Her heart giving a delighted little leap.
She blinks,
Looking around the dim room.
Then,
Down at Hubert,
Still nestled under her arm,
She wonders if she's dreaming.
But Hubert's soft,
Familiar face looks back at her.
And she could swear she sees a little sparkle in his button eyes.
Hubert,
She whispers,
Her voice filled with wonder.
Yes,
It's me,
Hubert replies.
His voice as gentle and cozy as the softest blanket.
A voice filled with warmth and kindness.
I've been waiting for just the right moment to talk to you.
Annabelle's eyes widen.
Her fingers gripping Hubert a little tighter.
Excitement bubbling up within her.
I.
.
.
I knew you could talk,
She whispers.
A huge smile spreading across her face.
I've wished for it every night.
Hubert gives a small,
Comforting chuckle.
A sound that seems to fill the room with a gentle glow.
I know,
Annabelle.
And I've been listening to your wishes.
You've kept me close for so long.
Through every adventure,
Every bedtime story,
And tonight,
Tonight,
I thought it was time we had our own adventure.
Annabelle's breath catches,
Her heart racing in excitement.
An adventure?
But where would we go?
Hubert tilts his head slightly.
His little button eyes twinkling with a mischievous sparkle.
Well,
He begins.
There's a secret door here in your room.
A door only we can see.
If we go through it together,
We'll find a place filled with wonders beyond your imagination.
A place that's warm,
And safe,
And full of magic.
Annabelle's eyes shine with pure delight,
Her little hand still clutching Hubert tightly.
She glances around her room,
Searching for any sign of this secret door.
Her heart dancing with the thrill of discovery.
Can we go,
Hubert?
Can we go right now?
She whispers eagerly.
Hubert nods,
A comforting smile in his voice.
Yes,
Annabelle,
All you have to do is hold my paw and we'll find it together.
Are you ready,
Annabelle?
Her face glowing with excitement,
Her small fingers wrapping tightly around Hubert's plush paw.
She takes a deep,
Steadying breath,
Her heart filled with a thrill that makes her feel as if she's glowing from the inside.
Hubert,
Ever gentle and reassuring,
Gives her a comforting squeeze back.
Close your eyes just for a moment,
He says softly.
Sometimes,
When we look with our hearts instead of our eyes,
We can see magic that's hidden from view.
Annabelle does as he says,
Her eyelashes brushing her cheeks as she squeezes her eyes shut,
Holding on to Hubert with all her might.
She listens carefully,
Waiting,
Feeling the warmth of Hubert's paw in her hand,
The sound of her own breathing blending with the gentle rhythm of his soft voice.
Open your eyes,
Hubert whispers.
Annabelle blinks,
Her eyes adjusting to the room once more.
And there,
Just to the left of her bed,
In the corner,
Where she's never noticed anything unusual before,
Is a small door,
A door no taller than she is,
With a beautifully curved frame painted in the softest shade of blue.
It looks as though it has always been there,
Waiting patiently for this very moment.
Oh,
Hubert,
She breathes,
Her voice filled with awe.
It's beautiful,
Hubert nods,
His little face beaming with joy.
It's just the right size for us,
Don't you think?
A door for adventurers who are ready for cozy,
Magical places.
And in paw,
They walk together toward the door.
Annabelle's heart races,
Her hand reaching out to touch the smooth,
Cool surface.
There's a tiny brass handle,
Shaped like a star,
And as she gently turns it,
She feels a soft warmth flow through her hand,
As though the door itself is welcoming her.
And with a soft creak,
The door opens,
And beyond,
Annabelle can see a gentle,
Golden light spilling out.
She peers through,
Catching glimpses of what looks like a meadow,
Blanketed in soft snow.
Sparkling,
Hubert gives her paw a reassuring squeeze.
Shall we step inside?
He asks,
His voice calm and steady.
Annabelle nods,
Her eyes wide with excitement and curiosity.
Together,
They step over the threshold,
Leaving her cozy bedroom behind,
As they enter this new world.
One filled with endless possibilities,
All bathed in the gentle glow of magic and winter's quiet beauty.
Winter is cool and crisp,
Carrying a gentle scent of pine and fresh snow,
And the landscape stretches out in gentle,
Rolling hills,
Blanketed in a soft layer of untouched snow.
Each flake glistens in the twilight,
Casting tiny points of light that sparkle like stars fallen to earth.
Annabelle's breath catches in her throat as she takes it all in,
Her eyes wide with wonder.
Hubert,
It's like a fairy tale,
She whispers.
Hubert chuckles softly,
His paw still holding hers,
As they take a few steps forward,
Their feet making the slightest crunching sound in the snow.
It's a special place,
He says,
A place made just for us,
Where everything is peaceful and safe,
A world where time moves more slowly and there's no rush to be anywhere but right here.
They walk together,
Their steps creating gentle prints in the snow that glisten for a moment before settling back into the soft white.
Nestled beneath the boughs of a towering pine tree,
Annabelle spots a cozy little cottage,
Its windows glowing warmly,
With smoke rising in soft curls from the chimney.
What's that,
Hubert?
Annabelle asks.
That's our next stop,
Hubert replies with a wink,
A place where adventurers can rest,
Sip on something warm and find all the comforts they might need on a winter's night.
Annabelle squeezes his paw a little tighter,
Her heart fluttering with the thrill of this gentle,
Wondrous adventure.
As they approach the cottage,
She notices the little details,
The wreath of evergreen and holly on the door,
The gentle light casting shadows of snowflakes on the windowpane and the sound of a crackling fire.
Just barely audible from within.
Hubert nudges the door open and they step inside.
The warmth envelops them immediately,
Wrapping them in a cozy embrace.
Inside,
The cottage is filled with soft,
Inviting furniture,
A large rug spread out in front of the fireplace and shelves lined with tiny treasures and books that look as though they've been gathered from many different worlds.
Hooked up,
She takes it all in and she notices a small table in the center of the room,
Set with two steaming mugs and a plate of delicate cookies dusted with powdered sugar.
For us,
She whispers,
Hardly believing her eyes.
Hubert nods,
Leading her to the table.
Adventures like us need something warm and sweet on nights like these,
He says.
Annabelle picks up one of the mugs,
Feeling its warmth seep into her hands as she takes a small,
Cautious sip.
It's a hot chocolate drink and it's rich and creamy with a hint of vanilla and spice.
And she feels the warmth travel through her,
Filling her with a cozy contentment.
She looks at Hubert,
Her eyes shining with happiness.
Thank you,
Hubert,
She says.
This is the best adventure I could ever wish for.
Hubert smiles,
His little face glowing in the firelight.
There's still more to see,
Annabelle,
But for now,
Let's just enjoy this moment.
Sometimes,
The greatest adventures are the ones where we simply find a place to rest and feel at home.
And together,
They sit by the fire,
Sipping their warm drinks.
The world outside,
Hushed and peaceful,
Wrapped in the quiet beauty of a winter's night.
In this moment,
Annabelle feels a kind of happiness she can hardly describe.
A feeling that wraps around her like her favorite blanket.
She glances around the room,
Noticing more little details.
The gentle flicker of candlelight on a nearby shelf a delicate vase filled with dried lavender and tiny wooden carvings of animals nestled into the corners of the mantel.
Her eyes drift to a small window beside the fireplace and she can see the twilight deepening outside.
The world looks peaceful,
Almost like a painting perfectly still and untouched with only their footprints marking their journey to this magical little cottage.
After a while,
Hubert sets his mug down and gazes at Annabelle with a soft smile.
Would you like to see something special?
He asks.
Annabelle nods eagerly,
Her eyes widening with excitement.
Oh yes,
Hubert,
Please!
He stands,
His little paws reaching for her hand and together they cross the room to a small door tucked beside a bookcase.
Hubert opens it slowly,
Revealing a staircase that spirals gently downward illuminated by tiny lanterns that cast a warm,
Golden light over each step Where does it lead?
Annabelle whispers,
Her heart fluttering with curiosity.
Just somewhere quiet,
Hubert replies with a smile somewhere that only those with the softest heart and brightest imaginations can see Slowly they descend the staircase,
Each step bringing them deeper into a hushed,
Magical silence.
When they reach the bottom,
They find themselves in a little room its walls made of smooth stone,
With shelves carved right into the rock.
On each shelf,
There are jars filled with glittering stars each one glowing softly,
As if holding a tiny piece of the night sky.
Her eyes wide with wonder.
Hubert,
Are they real stars?
Hubert nods,
His voice gentle.
Yes,
In a way,
They're stars from special moments little pieces of light that people carry in their hearts.
Every time someone feels true happiness,
Or kindness,
Or peace a little star like this is born,
And here they are,
Safe and quiet,
Glowing forever.
Annabelle reaches out to touch one of the jars feeling the soft warmth that radiates from it a warmth that seems to carry with it a feeling of pure love She can almost see images within the glow smiling faces,
Gentle embraces,
Quiet moments shared between friends It feels as though she's seeing all the happiness in the world captured in these tiny points of light Can I keep one,
Hubert?
She whispers,
Her voice filled with reverence Hubert smiles,
His button eyes twinkling Of course,
Annabelle,
Choose one that speaks to you a light that feels like a part of you Annabelle's hand hovers over the jars her heart guiding her to a small one in the corner filled with a soft,
Golden glow She lifts it carefully,
Holding it close,
Feeling its warmth It fills her with a sense of belonging as if she's holding a piece of this magical place within her hands And then,
Together,
They climb the stairs back to the cozy cottage Annabelle clutching her little jar of light feeling its warmth like a soft hum in her heart As they reach the top,
She realizes that the snow outside has begun to fall in gentle,
Delicate flakes blanketing the landscape in a fresh coat of shimmering white Hubert looks at her with a smile Shall we head back,
Annabelle?
The night is growing late,
And you'll want to be in your own cozy bed soon Annabelle nods,
Holding the jar close As they step out of the cottage and begin their walk back through the snowy meadow The path is quiet,
Peaceful The only sound,
The soft crunch of snow beneath their feet When they reach the little door,
They pause looking back at the cottage,
Glowing warmly in the distance Thank you,
Hubert,
Annabelle says,
Her voice filled with pure gratitude This has been the most magical night of my life Hubert gives her hand a gentle squeeze It was my pleasure,
Annabelle And remember,
This place will always be here waiting for you With one last look,
They step back through the door into the familiar warmth of the bedroom The door closes quietly behind them,
Fading into the wall as if it were never there Annabelle climbs back into her bed,
Holding her little jar of light close to her heart feeling its warmth as her eyes grow heavy once more And as she drifts into sleep,
A soft,
Peaceful smile on her face She holds Hubert beside her,
And he watches over her his own little eyes,
Shining with gentle love As the night settles in around them Annabelle knows that somewhere beyond the walls of her room a cozy cottage in a winter meadow awaits and who knows,
Maybe other worlds as well Maybe,
Just maybe,
This is only the start of her and her beloved bear Hubert's great adventures The two old friends are fast asleep in their cozy little bed in their cozy little bed two friends,
Always and forever
