Hello,
My name is Mon.
Founder of soul being.
And I'm so happy you landed here.
It warms my heart to know that you listened to that curiosity and clicked play on this video.
My intention over the next three videos is to offer you a new perspective on meditation.
And inspire you to start exploring your inner worlds.
I was once told that I teach meditation in a very user-friendly way.
I found this quite funny,
But it's true.
Meditation doesn't need to be scary.
Or confronting.
In fact,
I'm here to share this practice with you in a very childlike and lighthearted way.
All I ask is that you stay open and curious and be willing to give this an honest go.
Many of us are moving through life on autopilot.
Very unconscious about the things we are thinking,
Saying and doing.
Through mindfulness practices.
Like meditation and journaling.
My all-time favorite duo.
We begin to cultivate a stronger awareness of ourselves.
We offer ourselves a chance to breathe and slow down the pace of our lives.
It is through going inwards that our mental clouds slowly start to drift away.
And we open up space to see more clearly again.
We get a taste of what it's like to be fully present and connect with the part of us that remains centered and grounded amongst the chaos.
So with that being said.
Let us begin our first mindfulness practice.
I'll be keeping this short and sweet as I believe 5 minutes is better than no minutes at all.
Making sure you have a notebook and pen handy for the journaling component at the end.
When you're ready.
Closing down your eyes if you haven't already done so.
Or please feel free to hold a soft gaze down towards the floor.
You can still meditate with your eyes open.
Finding a position that feels comfortable for you.
You can be sitting on a chair or a cushion on the floor.
You may also lie down if you wish.
Whatever you choose,
Making sure you are alert but relaxed.
Allowing your body to settle into this position.
Making any adjustments that will allow you to relax and soften for these next few minutes.
Rest your hands in a place that feels comfortable for you.
Palms facing up.
Or down on your knees.
The choice is yours.
We don't need it over complicated.
Let us take three cleansing breaths together.
Inhaling deeply through the nose.
And sawing it out through the mouth.
Once again through the nose.
And out the mouth.
Last one,
Breathing in fully.
And letting it out with a sigh.
Allowing the breath to settle into its natural rhythm.
Breathing in and out through your nose.
Not trying to change it or control it in any way.
Just letting it be.
As it is.
Keep focusing your attention on your breath as you listen to my voice.
Don't worry,
I'm still here.
But you may have noticed that your mind drifted off into thought when I stopped talking.
This is totally okay.
One of the biggest myths about meditation is that we must clear our minds.
Meditation is not about emptying your mind or stopping your thoughts.
That's impossible.
Our mind is built to think,
So let it.
I am no different to you.
I also have thoughts that run through my mind as I sit and practice.
But the moment I realized that meditation is not about switching off the mind.
But instead switching on the mind.
By allowing and welcoming all the thoughts that came through.
I was able to soften into the practice even more.
So for these next few moments.
I invite you to become the observer.
And notice whatever thoughts come up with a friendly attitude.
No matter what they are about.
Continue to breathe deeply here,
Following along with every inhale and exhale.
As your mind wanders,
Which it will,
And often.
Can you give yourself some grace without getting angry at your wandering mind and gently return to your breath?
This is the practice.
Your mind is not broken.
Neither is it the enemy.
This is the nature of your mind and it is no different to mine.
When we celebrate our wandering mind,
With time and consistency,
It will settle.
We can find peace with it.
So let go of the expectation that we must clear our mind in meditation.
A meditation filled with thoughts is perfect.
Can you be open to accepting that?
Gently bring your attention back to your breath.
Noticing how you feel right now.
New thoughts,
Feelings and sensations have surfaced for you.
This is where the journaling comes in.
It provides us with the space to declutter all the fluctuations occurring in our mind.
Instead of keeping everything stored up there.
It can be freeing to release it down there on a page.
So if you haven't already.
Gently opening your eyes.
And gifting yourself these next five minutes to write down the thoughts,
Feelings and sensations that you notice throughout this practice.
There is no right or wrong way to journal.
Remember,
This is for your eyes only.
So let go of the judgment and expectations you have around journaling.
You don't even have to write full sentences or try to make it sound good.
Simply let your pen take the lead.
You might be surprised at what comes through.
Take your time,
And when your writing feels complete,
Close up your journal with a smile on your face and let it go.
The next video of this series will be waiting for you.
But I encourage you to space these videos out over the next three days.
It's easy to go in guns blazing,
But if we want to build a sustainable practice,
Go gently and integrate this practice slowly.
There is no rush.
The light in me sees the light in you.
Namaste.
