Welcome.
Thank you for being here.
And for choosing to make yourself a priority today.
This is your mandala card of the day.
A gentle pause to breathe.
Reflect.
And reconnect with what makes you feel most fully alive.
Before we begin,
I invite you to have a journal or a blank page nearby,
Along with a pen.
There'll be a short moment for quiet journaling,
So you can capture anything that wants to come through.
For now,
Allow yourself to settle in.
There's nothing to fix,
Nothing to figure out.
Just focus on being here in this moment.
Endless breath.
When you are ready,
Gently close your eyes and let's begin.
Take a slow breath in through your nose.
And a long breath out through your mouth.
Again,
Breathing in,
Calm and steady.
And breathing out.
Releasing whatever you've been carrying today.
One more time,
Inhale,
Letting yourself arrive fully here in this moment.
And exhale.
Soft,
Complete,
And full.
Now allow your breath to return to its natural rhythm.
Notice the quiet space you've created.
Notice that you were here,
Present.
Supported.
And ready.
The theme for today is vitality.
That quality of aliveness that's different from simply feeling okay.
Different from getting through the day.
The feeling of being lit up from the inside.
Engaged.
Present.
Genuinely yourself.
Most of us know this feeling.
We just don't always know how to find our way back to it when it fades.
Psychologists Richard Ryan and Edward Deasy spent decades researching what genuinely makes human beings thrive.
Not just survive,
Not just cope,
But feel fully alive.
What they found is both simple and profound.
We feel most vital,
Most genuinely ourselves.
When three core needs are being met at the same time.
The first is autonomy,
The sense that what you're doing is genuinely your own choice,
That you are expressing something real rather than simply performing what's expected of you.
The second is competence,
The feeling of being genuinely capable,
Stretched,
Growing,
Engaged at the level of your real ability.
Not bored by what is too easy.
Not overwhelmed by what is too hard.
But right in that alive middle ground where you're genuinely good at something and still becoming better.
The third is connection.
The sense that what you do matters to someone beyond yourself.
That you are part of something larger.
A relationship,
A community,
A conversation.
That would be different without you in it.
Ryan and DC found that when all three are present simultaneously,
Autonomy,
Competence,
And connection.
People report the highest levels of vitality,
Well-being,
And genuine engagement with their lives.
And here's what I find most useful about this research.
It gives you a way to understand why certain activities light you up and others leave you flat.
When something feels draining,
It's often because one of these three needs is missing.
You're doing it because you have to,
Not because you choose to.
Or you're not being challenged at the level of your real capability.
Or you're doing it in isolation without any sense of connection to something or someone beyond yourself.
And when something lights you up,
When you lose track of time,
When you feel fully present,
When you finish and feel more energized than when you started,
It's almost always because all three were there.
I have felt this in my own experience.
Writing has been one of the most consistent sources of genuine aliveness in my life.
Not because it's always easy.
It is not.
But because when I sit down to write,
Something true arrives.
Something I did not know I had to say until I said it.
It is entirely my own,
My voice,
My perspective,
My particular way of seeing things and putting things together.
In a way that no one else can replicate.
And that is the autonomy.
And over time I've grown.
The writing that comes now is different from what came before,
More honest,
More precise.
We're alive.
That is competence.
And when I write something and it reaches someone.
When a reader says,
I needed to hear exactly that.
Something happens.
That no amount of solitary creating can quite replicate.
That is the connection.
All three together creates something that feels less like work.
And more like the reason I'm here.
That is what lights me up.
And I believe you have something like this too.
Something or perhaps several things where all three come together and you feel most genuinely yourself The question today is simple.
What is it?
And are you giving it enough thought?
Time and space in your life to feel it.
Take a moment.
And bring your awareness inward.
Think about a time when you felt vital,
Alive.
Bring yourself back to that place.
What you were doing,
Where you were.
Who you are with.
As you reflect back.
Were all of those elements present?
Did you have autonomy?
Competence,
And connection.
Notice how it feels in your body to bring that memory forward.
Perhaps a warmth.
A smile on your face.
It's time to carry that feeling with you onto the page.
I invite you to pick up your pen and paper.
Take a moment to settle.
Softening your breath.
Relaxing your body.
This is your Journal Prompt today.
Begin by looking back.
What are the activities,
People,
And places that consistently make you feel most alive?
As you write,
Notice which of the three needs each one fulfills.
Autonomy,
Competence,
Connection.
And whether all three are present when you feel most alive.
Then move into honest reflection.
Where in your life right now are those three things not being met?
Where are they missing?
And what can you do in the next week.
To create more space to do the things that genuinely light you up.
Write freely without editing or judgment.
Simply let whatever wants to be expressed come onto the page.
I invite you to bring your writing gently to a close.
Take a slow breath in.
And a soft breath out.
As we come to the end of this practice.
I invite you to place one hand gently on your heart.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Connecting fully with your heart and your dreams and your desires in this moment.
I will share an affirmation now.
You are welcome to repeat it silently or out loud,
Allowing the words to land in your body.
I give myself permission to pursue what lights me up.
I give myself permission to pursue what lights me up.
I am most alive when I am most myself.
I am most alive when I am most myself.
I choose autonomy,
Growth,
And connection.
I choose autonomy,
Growth,
And connection.
What lights in the app is worth making space for.
What lights me up is worth making space for.
Take one more breath.
Feeling grounded,
Present.
And a little more alive.
Thank you for giving yourself this time today.
Each time you return to this practice,
You're strengthening something important.
Your ability to recognize what genuinely nourishes you.
Versus what simply fills your time.
Your willingness to pursue what makes you feel most like yourself.
Rather than most like what others expect.
And your growing trust that a life is possible.
With more of what lights you up is not a luxury,
It's a necessity.
If today's practice resonated with you,
I'd love to invite you to go deeper.
I have a 10-day audio journaling course called Return to Joy.
A guided experience that combines science fact reflection,
EFT tapping,
And journaling.
To help you reconnect with what matters most and move forward with more lightness,
Clarity,
And joy.
You can find it on my profile.
And if you'd like to continue this daily practice with me.
Please follow me here on Insight Timer so you never miss a new session.
New guided practices are added regularly and I'd love to have you with me.
Until then,
Notice what lights you up today,
Even briefly.
It's always there,
Waiting to be chosen.
May your day be filled with moments of genuine aliveness.
And being fully,
Authentically,
Beautifully yourself.
