Why Is Starting Meditation Hard? — The Ego Is Dissolving
Oliver answers this commonly-asked question, explaining why meditation can be so challenging, especially for beginners. By sitting down to meditate, we shine the light of our awareness on our "personal bubble", which makes the ego uncomfortable. Oliver sends a reassuring message, that this is normal, OK, and a sign that our egoic narrative is losing it's grip on our lives.

When you start meditating,
You.
.
.
You take your essence,
Your awareness,
As it's been termed by other spiritual teachers,
You take your awareness and you place it right in front of you onto your personal sphere,
And that includes your ego,
Your egoic sense of self.
You take your awareness and you lean it onto your ego.
And your ego doesn't like it.
My ego doesn't like it.
Because the egoic sense of self,
It is the complete antithesis of spiritual.
The ego is a primitive childish creature which seeks to maintain a narrative about itself And so when you bring awareness to the forefront via meditation.
The ego starts to throw its arms up in the air and.
.
.
Question you and leak little thoughts into your mind like you're not good at this.
This is a stupid idea.
You're so.
.
.
Rubbish,
You're so trash at meditation,
Meditation's not for you.
It will give you all kinds of negative thoughts to derail your meditation journey.
Because when you meditate.
.
.
The light of your awareness.
Figuratively speaking,
The light of your awareness.
Massages ego.
Massaging is a kind word.
It makes contact with the egoic body.
And that light begins to weaken the egoic sense of narrative.
