Let's begin by simply arriving,
Gently settling into your space,
Allowing your body to find a position that feels comfortable,
Supported and held.
Take your time,
Make everything just so.
Then finding stillness in your body,
Ready to receive,
Let your eyes softly close and begin to notice the simple rhythm of your breath,
The inhale arriving,
The exhale releasing,
Exhale letting go.
Take a slow breath in through the nose and a soft,
Easy breath out through the mouth and again,
Breathing in gently and exhaling slowly,
Like the body is beginning to sigh itself into softness.
This softness begins with the breath,
So take a few moments here to deepen and lengthen both inhalations and exhalations,
Letting your exhales drawing you deeper and deeper downward,
Nestling into the comfort of the support beneath you,
Blankets and pillows holding you and it may feel like you are beginning to drift on a cloud.
Every exhale draws you deeper and before sleep arrives,
Before the body fully unwinds,
Give yourself a moment here,
A moment to simply arrive in your own presence.
So much of life asks us to move quickly,
To respond,
To think and often the body continues long after the day has ended.
Still holding the rhythm of everything it has moved through and tonight there is an invitation to soften,
To loosen the grip of the day and to allow yourself to be carried by something slower now.
Take another slow breath in and as you exhale,
Imagine the edges of the day beginning to dissolve,
The conversations,
The thoughts,
The energy of other people now drifting further and further away from you and simply acknowledge that you are here,
Right here,
In this room,
In this breath,
Inside this quiet moment that belongs only to you,
Perhaps the mind still moves,
Thoughts may still ripple gently through awareness and that's okay,
The mind has simply been trying to carry for you in the ways it has learned.
Tonight we offer it something softer,
A gentler rhythm,
A quieter place to rest.
Take a deep breath in through the nose,
Allow those ribs to widen,
The belly to soften,
The chest to gently rise before exhaling softly.
Feeling the whole body respond,
Again breathing in softly and breathing out slowly,
Like waves returning to shore.
Stay here for a few more breaths,
Allowing the exhale to lengthen naturally and the nervous system beginning to settle.
The body beginning to understand that it is safe to soften now.
Bring your awareness now to the crown of your head and begin a gentle journey downward through the body,
Softening the forehead,
The space between the brows widening,
Smooth,
The eyes resting heavily in their sockets and the tiny muscles around the eyes releasing,
Cheeks soften,
Jaw loosening,
Letting the jaw drop a little and let your tongue rest away from the roof of the mouth and notice the whole face growing softer now,
Heavier,
More at ease.
Breathing in like waves of the ocean,
Coming to shore,
A steady rhythm drawing you deeper.
In to rest,
Allow that softness to move into the neck,
The throat,
Back of the neck releasing,
Shoulders melting downward,
Unwinding,
Letting go of the weight,
Hands solid,
Fingers gently curled,
The whole upper body beginning to sink deeper.
You are fully supported by the surface beneath you.
Bring awareness to the chest now,
The gentle rise and breath becoming quieter.
The heart space easing and expanding slightly with each inhale and softening with each exhale.
With every inhale a gentle expansion,
With every exhale a deeper release.
Let the belly soften completely,
Bring awareness to the hips,
The pelvis growing heavy,
Sinking even deeper.
The lower back easing,
Fully supported,
Fully held,
Thighs relaxing,
Muscles unwinding,
The calves releasing.
Ankles loose and the toes falling out to the sides,
The whole body now,
Settling,
Softening,
Resting.
Take another slow deep breath in and a long easy breath out.
And again begin to feel the rhythm of your breath,
Like a gentle tide,
Flowing in,
Zero effort,
Only rhythm.
Only softness,
Completely trusting your body that it knows exactly how to breathe you in this moment into rest.
And with every exhale feel yourself drifting slightly deeper,
As though the body is being carried downward into a quiet,
Spacious place within,
A place that has always existed beneath the noise,
Beneath the movement,
Beneath the thinking.
A deeper part of you,
Steady,
Aware,
Still.
And you do not need to arrive here all at once.
You are simply allowing yourself to move closer now,
Breath by breath,
And moment by moment.
Thoughts may continue to drift through,
And watch them like clouds moving slowly across a night sky.
And you can simply watch them pass,
Floating gently through awareness,
No need to hold on to them.
Just letting them go,
With every exhale,
Attention returning softly,
Again and again,
To your breath.
To your breath.
To your body.
And to the feeling of being held here.
And imagine now,
A soft darkness surrounding you.
A warm,
Comforting,
And still darkness.
Like being wrapped gently in silence,
In quiet,
In rest.
And the body,
It grows heavier,
The mind quieter,
Your whole system unwinding naturally.
Perhaps there is wisdom in sleep itself,
A returning,
A remembering,
A soft unravelling of everything held too tightly.
Your body restoring itself,
Quietly,
Beneath awareness.
The heart settling into its natural rhythm.
The nervous system recalibrating,
Ever so gently.
Beautifully.
Without any effort.
You are allowed to rest deeply tonight.
You are allowed to fully soften.
And you are allowed to be held by stillness.
And imagine now,
That you are floating effortlessly in warm water.
Just the right temperature.
Completely supported.
Weightless.
And held with ease.
Nothing to carry.
Only softness beneath you.
Only quiet around you.
And as you drift here,
Feel how naturally the breath continues.
And the body knowing exactly what to do.
Like waves moving beneath the moonlight.
Sleep begins to draw closer now.
Softly wrapping itself around you.
Like a warm,
Weighted blanket.
Like darkness settling gently over still water.
You are safe here.
You are supported.
The body can rest now.
The mind can soften now.
The whole of you can drift.
Gently.
Peacefully.
Into sleep.
Remain here for as long as your body needs.
Allowing sleep to arrive naturally.
So softly.
In its own perfect time.
Sleep well,
Beloved.
