Good morning,
Friend.
If you have woken up today with that heavy feeling,
You know,
That sense that the whole day is already waiting for you before you've even properly begun yet,
Stay here with me for a few minutes.
You don't need to get ahead of yourself.
You don't need to work everything out just yet.
For these next few minutes.
There is nowhere else you need to be.
Just allow yourself to arrive here.
And feel the support underneath you.
And just notice your breath.
Without trying to change it at all.
And remind yourself.
I am here.
This morning has only just begun.
Sometimes the mind wakes up before the rest of us has a chance to catch up.
It starts opening doors of things that need doing,
Of conversations,
Responsibilities and so many questions.
It really can feel as though you have been and did the entire day,
All at once.
But you really haven't.
You are only here.
Right now.
And,
Right now,
Is much smaller.
Take a slightly slower breath in now.
.
.
And let it leave without forcing it at all.
Again.
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
Feel where your body is being supported,
You're back.
Your legs.
Your feet.
And perhaps your hands resting somewhere comfortable.
You are safe,
Nothing needs to happen with any of this.
We're simply reminding your attention that you have a body here.
In this room in this morning.
Your mind may already be halfway through the day ahead.
If so,
Let your body bring you back.
Feel one breath arriving.
Feel one breath leaving.
And that is enough for now.
Now imagine the day in front of you.
Perhaps your mind has already turned it into one big enormous thing.
The morning,
Then the afternoon,
Evening,
All the jobs,
All the people.
Everything that might happen.
Let's make it smaller.
You do not have to live the whole day at once.
You couldn't even if you tried.
Life only ever arrives one moment at a time.
So you see.
You don't need the energy for this afternoon yet.
You don't need to answer to something that hasn't happened.
And you don't need to know exactly how you will feel later.
You only need enough time for here.
Enough to breathe.
Enough to sit or lie here.
Enough to begin.
And I want to remind you of something.
A difficult feeling at the beginning of the day.
Really does not get to decide what the whole day becomes.
Morning dread can make everything ahead look so much heavier than it really is.
The mind starts predicting,
It tells stories about how hard things will be.
But this moment is real.
And in this moment,
You.
Are safely here.
Breathing.
Listening.
Taking care of yourself before you begin.
And that really matters.
There may be things today that require something from you,
But none of them require everything from you right now.
So just.
Allow your shoulders to drop a little.
Unclench your hands and jaw.
And give yourself permission to stop preparing for every single possibility.
For now.
There is nothing to rehearse,
Nothing to prove,
Just this breath.
Notice the space immediately around you.
The temperature of the air,
Any sounds in the room.
Notice the light even through closed eyes.
And let yourself belong to this ordinary morning.
You are allowed to begin slowly.
You are allowed to take a little time before the world gets your attention.
Take another comfortable breath in… And as you breathe out,
Imagine setting down the idea of the whole day.
You can just pick up each part when you reach it.
Breakfast can wait until breakfast.
The journey can wait until the journey and that conversation can wait.
Until you're in the conversation.
The next thing will meet you when you get there,
But right now,
You are here.
And when this meditation finishes,
You do not need to leap headfirst into the day.
Just think about it.
Your next small step.
Maybe it's sitting up and putting your feet on the floor,
Having a morning coffee or tea.
Opening the curtains,
Getting dressed,
Whatever comes first.
Just one thing.
And let that be enough.
Then,
When that is done,
There will be another moment and you can meet that one too.
You've lived thousands of days this way,
Not all at once,
Just moment by moment,
Step by step.
You don't have to carry the road,
You only have to take the next step on it.
So,
Stay here with me for another moment,
No fixing,
No planning,
Just breathing.
You are allowed to have a morning that begins like this.
Nice and slowly and with some care.
And with someone reminding you that.
You do not need to rush ahead in your mind.
And if you find that anxious feeling is still here.
That's okay.
It doesn't have to disappear before you begin your day.
You can carry a little uncertainty and still make breakfast.
You can feel apprehensive and still step outside.
Can have a difficult morning and still find moments later that feel completely different.
The day has not been written yet.
Take one fuller breath now.
Slowly in.
.
.
And let it go.
Feel your body again,
The ground or bed or chair supporting you.
And when you're ready,
Begin to notice the room a little more.
Perhaps give your fingers a wiggle and your toes and toes Let your eyes open up when it feels comfortable.
And before you go into your day,
Remember this.
You don't need the energy for the whole day,
You only need enough for this moment.
The next moment can take care of itself when it arrives.
For now,
Just begin here.
One breath.
One small step.
One morning unfolding in its own time.
You're okay friend,
You're here.
And that is a perfectly good place to start.
Have a beautiful rest of your day.
Go in peace.
Namaste.
