I want to say something to you before we begin.
You are doing better than you think you are.
I know that might be hard to believe right now.
I know the inner critic has a long list of evidence to the contrary.
But for the next 10 minutes,
I am asking you to let me make a different case.
Find a comfortable position.
Let your body be completely supported.
Close your eyes.
And take a breath.
Place one hand on your heart.
Feel its warmth against your palm.
Feel your heartbeat.
Steady and faithful.
Beating for you without being asked.
This heart has carried so much.
Caring,
Trying,
Getting it wrong,
Getting it up and trying again.
Loving fiercely even when it hurt.
Showing up even when you were exhausted.
What if,
Just for a moment,
You treated yourself the way you treat the people you love?
What would you say to your best friend if she came to you feeling the way you feel right now?
You would be kind,
Wouldn't you?
You would see what she couldn't see about herself.
You would say,
Look at everything you're carrying.
Look at how hard you're trying.
Look at how far you've come.
Now say that to yourself.
Let yourself see,
Really see,
What you have been carrying lately.
Not to feel sorry for yourself.
To honor it.
The responsibilities,
The relationships,
The healing you are doing,
Which is some of the hardest work there is,
Because it's invisible for most people.
Growing and learning,
Choosing differently,
Even when the old patterns pull hard.
That is enormous work.
And you are doing it.
Even on the days when you feel like you're failing,
You're still here.
Still trying,
Still caring enough to show up.
For meditation.
And that's not nothing.
That is everything.
So take a deep breath.
And repeat after me.
I am enough.
I am doing enough.
I am giving enough.
I am allowed to be imperfect and still be worthy of love.
I release the pressure to be further ahead than I am.
I am exactly where I need to be.
Now imagine a warm golden light gathering in the hand that rests on your heart.
And with every beat.
Feel that light moving into your chest.
Into the parts of you that are tired.
Into the places that have been braced against judgment,
Your own judgment.
Let it in.
You are safe here.
There is no one to perform for.
No stand part to meet.
Just this.
This moment of giving yourself what you have been so freely giving to everyone else.
You deserve your own kindness.
You deserve your own compassion and you deserve to be on your own side.
Say this to yourself.
I am proud of myself for trying.
I am proud of myself for being here.
I am proud of myself for choosing.
To be kind to myself today.
Take one gentle breath.
In through your nose and out through your mouth.
You are doing better than you think.
Remember that.
Especially.
On the days when you forget.
