Before we begin I want to tell you something about what tantric practice actually is because it has been so thoroughly misinterpreted that most people arrive at the entirely wrong conclusion.
Tantra is not about sex,
It is about energy,
Specifically the most potent creative energy available to a human being which happens to live in the same part of the body as sexual energy because they are the same thing,
The same force just directed differently.
What this meditation does is teach you to feel that energy,
Build it deliberately and then make a conscious choice about where it goes.
You can release it or you can draw it upward through the body and redirect it into whatever you are trying to create in your life.
Both are valid,
Both are the practice.
So before we begin find yourself somewhere private where you won't be disturbed.
Sit upright for this one rather than lying down.
The energy needs a clear path to move through.
Spine straight but not rigid,
Hands resting open on the thighs.
Let's begin with the breath.
In through the nose,
Long,
Slow,
Deliberate,
Right down to the base of your belly,
Below the navel,
Into the lowest part of the body.
Feel it fill from the bottom up.
Hold it for just a moment at the top,
Feel the fullness of it.
And this is not ordinary breathing,
This is directed breathing.
You are using the breath as a tool to draw attention and with attention,
Energy into a specific place in the body.
The base,
The root chakra,
The place where the body holds its most primal power.
Take three more breaths exactly like that,
Each one deeper than the last,
Each one reaching further down into the base of the body.
With each inhale,
Feel something beginning to soften.
This is the energy,
It has always been there.
You are simply choosing to notice it.
A breath that fills the lower belly quickly and completely and controlled,
Drawing the belly inward as you do this ten times.
Let each exhale become a contraction,
A gentle squeeze at the base of the body as though you're gathering energy there,
Concentrating it,
Making it more dense and more present.
Feel the warmth building,
Cooling,
A heat that is moving from ambience.
Now return to the long slow breath in,
All the way down.
Feel what is present in the body now,
The energy that has been building there.
It's alive,
A genuine physical sensation that you created with nothing more than your breath.
This is the beginning of understand what tantric practice really is.
Not mysticism,
Not performance,
Just the body's own energy made conscious,
Made deliberate,
Made fully now warm,
The solar plexus lit up.
Feel how different this warmth is from ordinary body heat.
This is alive in a way,
The rest of the body is not right now.
It has weight,
It has texture,
It pulses very slightly with each and every heartbeat.
It is,
For want of a better word,
Awake.
This is creative energy,
Sexual energy,
Life force,
Whatever you want to call it,
But you can feel it and you put it there with nothing except breath and intention.
So stay with your breath now,
Long and slow,
With each inhale feel the energy continue to rise through the chest,
Into the throats,
The back of the skull,
The whole spine,
Now a column of warmth building,
Because this energy does not deplete when it moves.
The more you circulate it,
The more your upper body hums with what has already moved through.
This is the full circuit,
The body as an energy system,
Complete and self-sustaining,
One pulsing physical sensation that fills the lower body,
Completely in kind,
The heat urgent and present.
Alright,
Both are the practice,
Release,
To let this energy complete its natural,
To follow the body's own intelligence wherever it leads and to release what has been built completely and without.
The second path is concentrated creative force and instead of releasing it downward,
Draw it deliberately upward.
One,
The hands,
The creative centers of the body,
To carry it from this meditation and directly into your project,
The thing you are trying to make or build or bring to the world.
And when you are ready,
Let the breath return to its natural rhythm.
Feel your body now,
However it is after what just happened,
Warm,
Alive,
Present in a way it wasn't before we started this meditation.
What you did tonight is an ancient practice,
Older than most of the world's religions,
The deliberate cultivation of the body's own energy and the conscious choice of where it goes.
