Welcome to this floating into rest meditation for sleep.
Soften yourself into a comfortable position.
Let your body be supported by the bed beneath you and if it feels safe,
Allow the eyes to close or soften your gaze.
Take a slow breath in through the nose and exhale out through the mouth.
Again,
Breathing in and this time a longer breath out.
Now,
Bring your awareness to the points of contact,
The weight of your body,
The steadiness underneath you,
Where your head rests on the pillow,
There's nothing to hold up right now,
The bed is doing all the work for you.
Imagine roots extending from the soles of your feet and from the base of your spine,
Travelling deep down into the earth below,
Grounding you safely.
With every exhale,
Let the day ease out of you,
Any tension,
Any noise,
Any lingering thoughts,
Frustrations,
Just let them drain down through your roots,
Gently,
Softly.
Now,
Picture a soft light settling around you,
Close to your skin,
A protective cloak spreads all around you,
Only what supports your rest is welcome here,
Everything else can wait until tomorrow.
The cloak covers your whole body,
Soft,
Warm light,
Healing,
Protecting,
Relaxing.
And now bring your attention to your breath,
There's nothing to force here,
Just let it come and go at its own rhythm.
Notice the inhale,
And the exhale,
Slow,
Easy,
Now begin to soften the body,
Get your forehead smooth,
Unclench your jaw,
Let your tongue rest heavy in your mouth,
Allow your shoulders to drop,
Your chest to soften,
The belly easy,
No holding in,
No bracing.
Now the hips,
Let them be heavy,
Your legs long,
Feet relaxed,
And feel your whole body melting into the bed,
And you're being gently held,
Not by effort,
Not by force,
Just held the way the bed holds you,
The way the earth holds you.
And now we'll begin a visualization,
If imagery doesn't come easily,
That's okay,
You don't need to see anything clearly,
You can simply sense it,
Or imagine the feeling of it.
Imagine you're resting on something soft and supportive,
Like a warm,
Quiet current,
Like being held on the surface of still water,
Safe,
Steady,
Supported,
There is nothing you need to do to float,
Floating happens when you stop trying,
So let yourself be carried,
With each exhale feel yourself becoming lighter,
More restful,
Feel the body letting go of its grip,
Now imagine the breath is a gentle wave,
Inhale and the wave rises,
Exhale and the wave falls,
And you are carried naturally on that rhythm,
When thoughts arrive let them drift past like small ripples,
You don't have to follow them,
You don't have to solve them,
Just let them pass and return to the feeling of floating.
Now imagine the space around you becoming quieter,
Softer,
Darker,
Like evening settling in,
Like the world dimming its lights,
And in this quiet you are safe,
You are protected,
You are allowed to rest,
A soft blanket of light now rests over you,
It's gentle like moonlight,
A calm glow that tells the body it's time to sleep,
Let your body sink a little deeper into that comfort,
Shoulders heavy,
Belly easy,
Legs loose and as you float you don't need to hold on to the day anymore,
Set it down,
Let it go and on the exhale letting go,
And on the exhale you're drifting,
Keep following the gentle wave of your breath,
That feeling of being carried into rest,
Keep floating,
Keep softening,
Sleep will come in its own time,
You're safe to sleep,
You're allowed to sleep,
I leave you now and you can drift the rest of the way.
