A beautiful morning.
A five-minute wake-up meditation.
Before you reach for the day.
Let the morning reach for you.
Before you remember what needs to be done,
Where you need to go,
Or who needs something from you,
Notice that you are here.
Listen for the first sound you can hear.
It might come from inside the room or somewhere beyond it.
Notice the light through your eyelids.
Feel the arrogance you skin.
Morning is arriving one sensation at a time.
Your mind may have already started making plans.
It may be returning to something from yesterday or moving ahead to what might happen today.
There will be time for all of that.
For now,
Let your body arrive before your thoughts take over.
Notice the weight of your head,
The position of your arms and legs.
The movement in your chest as you breathe.
Begin to bring some movement into your fingers.
Move your toes,
Roll your shoulders,
Or stretch your arms if that feels right for you.
Notice the change from stillness to movement.
You don't need to force yourself to feel positive.
You don't need to pretend that everything is perfect.
As you prepare for the day,
Notice what is already good in your life.
Pause and name two things you are grateful for right now.
They can be important parts of your life or small,
Ordinary things.
Person you love.
At nearby.
The warmth of your bed.
A familiar sound.
A cup of coffee waiting for you.
Or the chance to experience another morning.
What are you grateful for?
Let each answer stay with you for one breath.
Gratitude cannot control what happens today.
But it can shape how you meet it.
Choose one feeling you would like to carry into your morning.
Perhaps you would like to feel calm?
Study.
Open.
Curious.
Already.
Choose the word that feels right today.
Take a breath and hold that word in your mind.
And as you breathe out allow some space around everything else.
Notice the light again.
When you're ready,
Open your eyes.
Look for the first color you can see.
Notice the shapes,
The shadows and the small details around you.
Nothing has to be extraordinary for this to be a beautiful morning.
This morning doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful.
You only need to be there and to be here to notice it.
Be present as you start your day.
And when you're ready.
You can now rise to meet it.
