Welcome,
You've made it to the end of this day.
Whatever it held,
Whatever went unfinished,
Whatever weighed on you,
You can set it down now.
This is your time to rest.
Let's begin by simply arriving.
Find a comfortable position,
Allow your eyes to gently close,
And take one slow breath in through your nose,
And release it fully through your mouth.
Good.
You are safe,
You are held,
God is here.
He grants sleep to those he loves,
Psalm 127.
God grants sleep to those he loves,
And that is you.
You don't have to earn this rest,
You don't have to resolve everything first,
He gives it as a gift.
Let's let the body receive that gift now.
Notice the weight of your head on the pillow.
Let it be heavy,
Let yourself be supported.
Soften your jaw,
Let your shoulders drop,
Unclench your hands and let them rest open.
Take a slow breath in,
Breathing in peace.
Hold gently at the top,
And breathe out,
Releasing the day.
Breathing out anything you're still carrying.
Again,
Breathe in slowly,
Receiving rest.
And breathe out,
Releasing worry.
You don't need to hold onto it tonight.
Your body knows how to rest,
Let it do what it was made to do.
Cast all your anxiety on him,
Because he cares for you,
1 Peter 5.
7.
His word tells us cast all your anxiety on him,
Because he cares for you.
Not some of it,
Not the manageable pieces,
All of it.
So,
I'd like to invite you now,
Gently,
To notice what's still active in your mind.
What thoughts are circling?
What worries are still asking for your attention?
You don't need to solve them right now.
You don't need to figure anything out before morning.
Simply name what you notice,
Silently in your own heart.
And as you do,
Imagine placing each one gently into open hands before God.
He sees it.
He holds it.
It belongs to him now.
Maybe it's a relationship.
Maybe it's a relationship,
Something left unsaid,
Or something said too harshly.
Place it in his hands.
Maybe it's tomorrow,
Something you're dreading or uncertain about.
He is already there.
Place it in his hands.
Maybe it's something you can't even name,
Just a heaviness,
A weight in your chest.
He knows.
Place that too in his hands.
Notice how your chest feels a little lighter.
Notice how your breath comes a little more easily.
This is what it means to cast your cares.
Not to deny them,
But to trust them to someone bigger than you.
The psalmist wrote,
Let those words settle over you now like a blanket.
You are safe,
Not because everything is figured out,
But because the future is certain.
Not because the future is certain,
But because the one who holds the future is also here right now,
Watching over you through the night.
Let your body become heavier with each breath.
Heavier and softer,
Sinking deeper into rest.
As you breathe,
You might quietly repeat these words in your heart.
There's no pressure,
Just an invitation.
I trust you,
Lord.
You are with me.
I am held.
Let those words sink beneath thought,
Down into the quieter place.
You don't have to stay awake to know he is faithful.
His watchfulness doesn't require yours.
You can let go now,
Fully,
Completely.
Nothing will be lost while you sleep.
Your breath is slow and easy now.
Your mind is growing still.
Let your thoughts drift past like clouds,
Soft,
Unhurried,
And let them go.
Feel the weight of your body.
Feel how completely you are supported by the bed beneath you and by the one who never sleeps,
Who watches over you with love through every hour of the night.
He who keeps you will not slumber,
So you can.
Rest now.
Rest well.
Good night.
