Welcome to Compassion for the Supervisor.
Get into a comfortable position.
And close your eyes or look down.
Whichever feels comfortable for you.
Gently bring your attention To you,
Breath.
You don't have to change it.
Just notice.
Observe.
Watching the air go in.
And out.
Bring to mind a time when a supervision session didn't go very well.
And you weren't the kind of supervisor.
That you want to be.
Imagine yourself after that not great session.
You may be sitting in your office after the session.
Realising it didn't go the way you would like.
Imagine.
As you sit there.
You hear a gentle knock at the door.
It is you as your ideal supervisor self.
Your ideal supervisor self is connected to your values.
And they sit with you.
As you tell them about what has just happened.
They listen.
They notice the discomfort and pain you are feeling.
And they know it is coming from a place of caring.
They note how your responses make sense.
Given you care about supervision and your supervisor's experience.
You sit together in the discomfort.
Compassionately.
Acknowledging it.
It's hard.
Then slowly,
You move towards your values.
And the sharing of ideas of how you'd like to respond in the future.
And what you can do next.
Actions that would be more consistent with your values.
Both you and your supervisor self know you will be vulnerable.
And get hooked again.
And make mistakes.
And there is no judgment.
Just compassion.
And curiosity.
And a gentle returning to your values.
Now begin to let the image fade.
And bring your attention back to the breath.
With each out-breath,
The image is pushed further away.
Moving your attention back into the present moment.
Noticing what you can hear around you.
When you feel ready.
Open your eyes.
Look around.
Maybe stretch or give yourself a compassionate little hug.
To conclude the exercise.
