Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) is an evidence-based practice initially devleoped by American, Harvard University Physician, Edmund Jacobson, MD. It is based on the premise that an anxious mind cannot live in a relaxed body. The research behind PMR concludes it is highly useful for managing stress, anxiety, some chronic pain, improving sleep, and better overall health. Note: Do not tense areas of the body that are currently in pain, but instead, just focus on the "letting go" part of the practice for those areas.
